Art Club Sale Features Past Member’s Book Launch Heather Hochbaum shows off her “Inkspot Divas” at the Battlefords Art Club “Sparkle With Art” Show and Sale Friday and Saturday. Can you spot her self-portrait caricature? Hochbaum also had her quilting on display. Photos by Jayne Foster
The Battlefords Art Club “Sparkle With Art” Show and Sale Friday and Saturday featured the launch of late member Julian Sadlowski’s Pictorial History of North Battleford. The book was Sadlowski’s last labour of love. The former mayor and educator, well known as a historian and artist, passed away last year after a long battle with cancer. Unable to finish his book, he passed the project on to the team above to finish in time for North Battleford’s centennial year. Left to right are Harvey Cashmore, Gil Bellavance, Ken Holliday, Sadlowski’s daughter JoAnn McNie and Jim MacNeill. Team members missing from the photo are Herman Friesen and Laura-Ruby Stade.
Ray Dexter and Mike Jakeman of the Battlefords Wood Carvers were at “Sparkle With Art” with a number of pieces for sale. Their group has several members from the region who meet at a woodworking shop at North Battleford Comprehensive High School. Dexter and Jakeman said they carve primarily from basswood and complete their projects with acrylic paint. Some carvers work from photos, others from patterns and some from memory, they said.
