NOMINALIZARE NOMINALIZARE Scena Urbana started as an initiative of the Romanian Order of Architects, Transylvania branch, with the purpose of bringing urban spaces back to the community. The same desire to revive urban space was the starting point in the intervention framework at the Train Station. A space that is branded as the functional image and mechanism of the town got marginalized and ignored. Despite being very circulated on a daily basis, the Train Station has became only a transitional space, and is being ignored by all the people that are passing through every day. What we tried was to bring social attention to the urban landscapes and the Train station’s building through culture and art to this important symbol of the city. Thus, from 9 to 12 of October 2014, the Train station was transformed into a unique decor and deployment platform for a series of cultural events, that were meant to reinstate the space as a social coagulant. The old building, one of the first ones built in Transylvania, with over 140 ears of history, has hosted an exhibition of the Transylvania Summer University 2014’s projects in its main foyer, with the ambition, amongst other things, to bring disclosure to the historical values of this monument. The opening of the exhibition was accompanied by concerts performed by the students of the Music Lyceum from Cluj Napoca and the young talents from the Los Pomelos band.

Proiecte culturale | Iniţiative | Experimente The green area next to the Train station was “transformed” into a stage for concerts, performed by Marc Aymon, accompanied by three ballet dancers, with Glass Fish in the opening. On different days there were also musical and theatrical projects: My Fair Lady, accompanied by the Opera Group Project, and also D-l Goe, a Romanian theater piece, with an old steam locomotive from the ‘50s in the background. The surrounding areas were filled with people in no time, both the ones who were only in transition, and also the ones that chose this destination as their evening get out. An old railway has became the basic ground for a land art intervention, where giant poppy flowers have “bloomed” for a few days, during the event. The new Train station building, that was closed for almost 20 years, was opened again, and had hosted a painting exhibition, and also a basketball game with the kids from the U-Mobitelco team. During this period of time there were also a series of activities for children, piano and art workshops, guided tours, art and craft exhibitions, and some other surprises for the participants. Our main purpose was to highlight the great potential this space has, and its the importance for the community, being an “entry point” to the city.
