Developments at The Hive The Hive project is continuing to develop and here Meg, 2nd year theology degree student working in Peasedown as a trainee youth worker, shares about the project. The youth club in Peasedown started around 6 months ago, with 15-20 young people coming each evening. Regrettably at the beginning challenging behaviour led to us having to close the club early to ensure the safety of young people and leaders. Whilst this was a difficult decision, our priority had to be safety and establishing boundaries for the groups. In the past couple of months, less young people have attended but it has been a consistent group for both the Monday and Wednesday sessions and there has been a huge decrease in difficult behaviour. Young people have said they enjoy having a place to come inside with their friends, instead of having to be outside in the cold, as well as enjoying the free food and music! Alongside the youth club, a mentoring project has been launched recently with the aim of providing the opportunity for young people to share their journey with an adult who can guide and challenge them when appropriate. We hope that this will also help to build trust between the team and young people. So far, 3 young people have officially signed up, and many more have expressed interest. We believe this will be a real turning point for the work in the village.

We are also working with young people from the local churches and are in the process of developing a discipleship group to commence in September.

The team has also been involved in a Bath project – A2 - which gathers all youth workers and young people together. It is inspiring to see young people from various churches in the city come together to have fun, hear more about faith and worship together. It certainly provides ideas for us to develop in PSJ in the future. So far, we have worked with 80 young people, and in the coming months we are confident for more!
