3.46 3.44 – 3.49 Jingyang Zhai Faculty of Middle Eastern Studies (Lebanese University) Based on the proposal for an urban campus, the design project is for the faculty of Middle Eastern studies of the Lebanese University. Besides the main programme, other facilities include public cafes, restaurants, lecture hall, outdoor cinemas, and gym. The proposal also integrates the landmark Murr tower and acts as a podium for a number of private high-rises above that will partly fund the new faculty. The typical vertical atrium type found in the educational building is transformed into a differentiated plan and section in order to provide suitable conditions for the varying programme and circulatory requirements and organise the hierarchy of public and private spaces. 3.44 Model view of the faculty building. 3.45 Sectional and plan transformation of 74
