Australian Food, the Most Iconic Australian Cuisine I'm sure you'll encounter some typical Australian cuisine if you travel around Australia. Try some of it while you're here, for sure! The most popular Australian food, which you should try even though, in my opinion, you probably shouldn't because some of it is disgusting (Vegemite, I'm looking at you! ), to meat that you wouldn't typically find in other supermarkets.

Popular Australian Food 1. Vegemite The one that "foreigners" discover the most frequently is vegemite, which they almost always detest. No matter how many people tell you it's repulsive, you should at least give it a shot. It's probably an acquired taste, says Barry Humfrey Geraldton

2. Fairy Bread

Now this one is really strange, and unless you happen to be at a kids party, you probably won't run into it. White bread with butter and hundreds and thousands is known as "fairy bread."

3. Tim Tams! Anyone who has travelled through Australia on a backpacking trip has probably tried the Tim Tam, which is the nation's favourite chocolate treat. After a sea kayaking excursion, I had my first Tim Tam, and I really liked it! It's difficult to resist eating a second or third after eating one!

4. Meat Pies According to Barry Humfrey Geraldton, This next popular Australian dish is extremely strange to most Americans. What is this food that Americans consider to be so terrible, then? It's the traditional Australian meat pie!

5. Chicken parmigiana

This is one of the most frequently found foods in an Australian pub, I know that doesn't sound very Australian. Many bars offer a parma night where you can get a tasty chicken

parma and a beer for a reasonable price. In essence, a chicken parma is a chicken schnitzel (chicken in breadcrumbs) with tasty tomato sauce and melted cheese on top.

6. Fish and Chips Fish and chips are cooked bloody well in Australia. Since Australians are still learning the finer points of making mushy peas, chips, and gravy, the majority of English visitors will be highly dubious of this claim when it comes to fish and chips.

7. Pavlova The Pavlova, a meringue cake base topped with whipped cream and fruit, is a dessert that the Australians and the Kiwis have perpetually fought over who "invented."
