WOODBRIDGE TOWNSHIP CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION The Woodbridge Township Cultural Arts Commission was established in 1977 to foster cultural activities in Woodbridge Township. The Commission supports a varied program, from concerts to art exhibits to poetry readings to lectures. Arts classes for children and adults are also offered. The Center has been fortunate to receive grant monies from a variety of sources—the County, the State, the Freeholders and business supporters. The additional funding has allowed for continued programming as well as maintenance and restoration of the Barron building. Along with the staff and the Commission, the Friends of the Arts, a volunteer group, assists in many ways. In addition to acting as hosts and hostesses for regular programs and receptions, the Friends help with mailings, fund raising and other areas where their help is needed. With the help of the Friends, the Barron Arts Center will continue to provide excellent cultural programs for the Woodbridge township community as well as for people from around the County and the State.

About the Barron Arts Center Woodbridge is proud to have a building listed on the national Register of Historic Places. The Barron Library building, built in 1877 and located at 582 Rahway Avenue in Woodbridge Proper, now serves as a center for the arts for residents of Woodbridge Township and Central New Jersey. Bobey Lou—Baking It Forward!

Appearing at BarronFest 2023

About Bobey Lou My New Year's resolution for the year of 2020 was to start sending cookies to my Grandma in Ohio and my husband's Grandpa in Oregon. Neither of us call our grandparents as often as we would like and this allowed us to show them that we're thinking of them (and it actually started weekly communication!). My grandma is in an assisted living home and she would tell us about residents who didn't get many (or any) visitors or letters and packages. Quite a few times my grandma takes her weekly treats out to share with her friends after dinner. As the year went on, my shipping group grew to include my adopted grandma and grandpa in Pennsylvania. Adding my PA grandparents really made my love for this new venture grow. I get weekly calls from Grandma Linsley and she's always so grateful and amazed by the cookies. It's such a good weekly call to get and it always brightens my day! At the beginning of 2021, I quit my 9-5 to follow my dreams of being self-employed. As I navigated what that meant, I had quite a few people push me towards baking. It also made me think about not just baking but paying it forward too. By selling cookies, I could also gift cookies locally to various nursing homes and first responders. We'd love to hear from you! Do you have someone or a group that we could make smile? Please fill out the contact page! As this business started to take shape, a friend and mentor suggested that I name it in honor of the grandparents who inspired it; "BOB" in honor of my Grandma Bobbie, "EY" in honor of my husband's Grandpa Aubrey and "LOU" for my adopted grandparents Frank and Marilou.

About the Artist:: Photography offers an ability to record a moment as proof that this event happened. We can create our moments and record them to recharge, in us, these feelings the image creates in a quick glance. As a young man I had the pleasure of seeing images created by artist photographers like Man Ray and Vivian Maier. It became clear how moments in time can be even more than just a record for the photographer; but a record that can move, inspire, or entertain many more people you may never have even met before. This is the goal to reach every time I take my camera with me. Lauren Curtis was graduated with a BFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University (New Brunswick, NJ), in 1988. She has remained in the New Brunswick/Franklin Park, NJ area ever since and has been creating as a full-time artist. She enjoys working in a variety of media, including oils, collage, pen & ink, watercolor and photography. The artist is happiest when creating pieces that represent her love of nature, wildlife, travel and spiritual subject matter. The symbolism and mythology of ancient cultures are fused with the symbols from modern -day , natural spiritual practices, to form a unique and eclectic style. These images are often portrayed through the woman’s perspective, showing the importance of “The Feminine” , which is sometimes over-looked. Travel is another major influence in Lauren’s work and the pieces, usually photographs, created from these journeys helps the artist to convey the beauty found in diversity, as well as in the similarities, that run through various cultural belief-systems. As someone who believes in Earth centered spirituality and the importance of mythology, Lauren has & continues to study the myths of various ancient and modern cultures and religions, which ties together her love of travel, nature and symbolism. This is evident in her photography and digital mixed media work, which includes her current series, "X-RAYted", which began in 2010 & continues today. In this body of work, Lauren incorporates photos she has taken of human and animal xrays, which are combined with other original photos, ss well as various collaged elements. Another series, "Mystics & Mourners", which is composed of oil paintings and watercolor with collage pieces, also portrays our connection to nature and touches on our mortality as well. These works represent the more Gothic style of the artist's work as well as more examples of how spirituality play an important roll in Lauren's pieces. Lauren has had artwork and poetry published by greeting card and crafter companies, magazines, children’s books and historical organizations, including the Middlesex County Cultural & Heritage Commission (New Jersey) One of her pieces was selected for the permanent collection of the Joyce Kilmer Library in central NJ. Her work has been displayed in private collections, healthcare centers and galleries and was selected for a solo exhibit at Johnson &Johnson World Headquarters, July-August, 2009. She was a featured artist on the Science Channel‘s TV show Oddities (2011-2012), was also featured on Germany’s TAFF TV (2015), several New Jersey/New York City cable /YouTube TV shows and has done radio interviews as well. Lauren has participated in over 150 solo, group & juried exhibitions throughout the US, won multiple awards and is a member of NJ Arts organizations. Her artwork has been sold throughout the US and abroad and she exhibits her work monthly in gallery shows, art fests and cultural events. About 10 years ago, Lauren ventured into becoming an art teacher, giving private one on one or small group lessons to beginners and intermediates of all ages. She then expanded to becoming a marketing coach for a wide variety of creatives who want to expand their own artistic careers. This has been very rewarding and she continues to expand her classes and student base. Being that she can teach both in person and virtually, she has students both locally in Central NJ as well as several other states and has had students as far away as Greece! Lauren finds this work very rewarding as well as a great way to supplement her income in between commissions and freelance illustration work, which includes children's book and other publication illustration, book cover design, logo and marketing material design and more. Prices range from $135-$500 depending on size and framing options

About the Artist Amel Kholaif is an Egyptian-American artist from Woodbridge, New Jersey. She has a BFA in Visual Arts at Mason Gross School of the Arts, with a concentration in printmaking. Her main areas of focus include printmaking, painting, and drawing. Before college, she had worked to teach herself how to draw, working with limited materials. Because of this, she appreciates the connections and conversations she can have with other artists about the work that they’re making. Her practice is currently focused on two broad themes: horror and humor. In some works, they interact with one another, though she also considers them separate bodies of thought from one another. For her, humor—or an echo of it—is a way to trick the viewer in order to reveal a hardhitting narrative in the work

About the Artist I’m a furniture designer and maker creating contemporary live edge pieces. I first started working with live edge lumber in New England about 20 years ago: I was an architectural graduate of the University at Buffalo’s 3-1/2 yr Masters program, looking for a more hands-on approach to designing and building: where designers were directly involved with the construction of their ideas. There, I worked with designers and artisans in the region who specialized in timberframe-constructed buildings with a unique feature: live edge, and whole trees incorporated into the structure. We built everything--doors, windows, sinks, beds- from millwork to furniture, everything was custom made by us. After years of work, I mastered the techniques, and started running the Cleaver Cutting Board $42 - $55 Available in Walnut, Cherry, Maple, Siberian Elm projects, training carpenters in our methods, and developing new ones. After my time there, I moved to NYC, and pursued a more common role in Architecture, and worked for several firms. While working at these firms, I designed and built custom pieces “on the side” for select patrons, as my time allowed. My professional career prior to the pandemic culminated in the corporate world, managing office designs across the country for a fortune 200 insurance company--but designing and building has always been my core passion. My process is fairly straight forward: I start with creating a design- it could be to solve a problem for a patron, or something that they would want, or sometimes I am shown pictures Artist Contact Information of a type of piece that is liked by them. I never copy, there is no need to. Artist Name: Joseph Messick / Edgewood Studio What I do is reimagine what they are looking for, and find new ways to meet their needs. I then create a detailed design. From there, however Artist’s Medium: Wood / Fine Furniture/ Housewares the design process is not finished: With live edge, the uniqueness of each slab can influence the design. Sometimes this is subtle. Sometimes, Website: www.edgewoodstudio.com it might be quite radical, and even offering its own new ideas to the Phone: 732-306-7616 design. I always work closely with my patron, thru meetings and discusEmail: Joe@edgewoodstudio.com sions during this process. But one thing is for certain: both my patrons, and myself are always thrilled about the finished piece.

About the Artist As a 25+ year resident of Woodbridge and creative person at heart, I found myself (like many others) suddenly working from home, and along with being an emptynester, I was looking for something to fill my time and feed my artistic soul. I tried sketching, photography and other avenues but nothing "stuck" like the art of macrame. I was surprised at the many uses way beyond plant hangers and the 70s belt that can be accomplished using macrame. One of my first pieces was for my adorable grandson's nursery. I look forward to upgrading that wall hanging as he gets older. I also enjoy designing custom pieces to fit my vision such as the Glass Lanterns. The process of going from mind to paper to workspace to finished product is completely satisfying. Please reach out and follow me on

About the Artist My name is Gina Petrecca. I loved photography when I was growing up. I became fascinated with preserving memories. I have tons of photo albums of my family, friends, and pets. As I grew up, I knew I wanted to do it for a living.

All photographs shown are available for sale $300.00 framed

I love taking pictures of still life, architecture, landscapes, nature, and animals. Anything in those categories I just love. I pretty much get inspired by colors, shapes, or anything different. My inspiration changes depending on the situations I find myself in. Sometimes an idea just pops in my head and I just do it. I feel every artist is unique and their tastes are different. I can’t fit myself in a category. I just do what I want and enjoy the uniqueness that each moment presents.

I want everyone to see what I can do and for my photography to be part of the environment, on the walls and enjoyed by people. One goal of mine is to have my own photography shop and sell my prints. I also don’t mind having a regular job too. As long as I can still do my photography I’ll be ok no matter what I end up doing.
