E-Waste The Town and Village of Red Hook and Tivoli, together with the Red Hook Conservation Advisory Council and Bard Office of Sustainability, are hosting an electronic waste collection day for residents. Help move large TVs, stereos, computers and other e-waste onto pallets at the Town of Red Hook Recycle Yard. This is an outdoor event that requires appropriate cold weather clothing and footwear. Forsyth Nature Center Help kick-start a new citizen science effort focused on winter bird life in Kingston. Our field party will visit public green spaces like cemeteries and city parks including the Kingston Point area known as one of the best birding locations in Ulster County to count the local Winter Waterfowl! Wear warm clothes. No need for bird expertise or special equipment, as these will be provided. Happy to Help Food Pantry This food pantry, located in Kingston, has expanded to serve more than 800 local residents each month. Volunteer in the kitchen to help cook food for those in need and then help set up the food pantry for people to pick up groceries for their families. Hudson Maritime Museum The Riverport Wooden Boat School at the Hudson River Maritime Museum needs volunteers to assist with the completion of the interior renovations of the boat school. We need people who have experience or would like to have new experiences with power tools, painting, and general home renovation. The work party will continue as long as people are willing. Snacks will be provided. Make Your Voice Heard on Pricing Carbon During this workshop you’ll learn why a pricing on carbon is considered the best, most comprehensive solution to climate change. You will also learn how advocate for that solution by interacting with the U.S. Congress to enact legislation that puts a price on carbon. Citizens' Climate Lobby will help students write letters to members of Congress expressing their views about the climate and a carbon price (see www.theclimatesolution.org). Planned Parenthood Planned Parenthood of the Mid Hudson Valley will host students to create educational packets that they can then use to engage with members of the local community regarding sexual health education. Students will also tour the Hudson Valley facility. Planting Seeds for a Sustainable Food System Join Katrina Light, Director of Food Sustainability, in planting the Urban Cultivator in the Campus Center. Students will choose what plants to grow and get their hands dirty. We'll discuss ways to improve students' connection to food at Bard and also dive into the many ways food relates to larger issues of the environment, culture, the economy and health. Snacks will be provided.
