Executive Director’s Corner I am writing this blurb as the sun is shining through my office window. As you read this in October, we can remember that we did in fact have a beautiful summer with warm sunny weather. As we roll into the fall months we have lots of great programs and events to look forward to in this quarter. It’s hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner! As many of you already know, Iris Keen has chosen not to return to her position of Director of Recreation. This came as a shock to many of us but we understand that things change and people move on and need to do what is best for themselves. The staff took Iris out for dinner to wish her well. Who knows, we may see her enjoying an event or two at the centre now… I am pleased to announce that Christine Dembicki will assume the role of Director of Recreation. She has done a fabulous job over the past six months. Christine is very open to new ideas and suggestions to continue to make the Centre the vibrant place it has always been. I hope that many of you have had an opportunity to look at our website. We are working very hard at keeping it up to date. We also have quarterly e-newsletters that go out with information on upcoming programs, volunteering opportunities and much more. If you have a story about an event at the centre or a great program you attend let us know and we will include it in the e-newsletter. If you haven’t already signed up, go to our website www.lsrs.ca and submit your email address. We are asking for help from all our members to promote the centre to the community. Even though the Seniors Centre has been open for 19 years, some people do not know what services we offer. Lots of community members believe we are a nursing or retirement home. FAR FROM IT!!! As valued members of the Society please tell everyone about our great programs and events at the centre, great resources and information and of course friendships and fun. Encourage your neighbours or friends to come over and try the centre, have lunch and explore all the options there are for people 50+ living in Langley. Don’t forget to let local business people, your doctors and healthcare professionals know about our services also. Mark your calendars for our upcoming garage sale on November 3rd!!
