“We come to this convention in the midst of turmoil; turmoil that is political, commercial, social, educational and religious.” These words come from the Executive Committee report to the Annual Meeting of Oklahoma Baptists in 1925. Luke Homes, pastor of Tishomingo, First, brought them to my attention. Brother Homes reminded me that, “This is not the first Annual Meeting that Oklahoma Baptists came to with uncertainty.” Brother Holmes piqued my curiosity, so I refreshed my memory of Oklahoma history. 2020 State Missions Offering Emphasis kicks off >> BRIAN HOBBS

The Edna McMillan Oklahoma State Missions Offering (SMO) emphasis for 2020, which culminates in the week of prayer (Sept. 6-13), has begun in churches across Oklahoma. Oklahoma Baptists women’s and missions ministry office is distributing SMO promotional materials to churches, which include prayer points, video resources, children’s missions activities and more. /// SEE PAGE 5

Let the little children ‘quarantine’: Engaging kids with the Gospel during a pandemic >> HANNAH HANZEL

Children’s ministry is hard. From early Sunday morning drop-off to late Wednesday night pick up, the church nursery and children’s ministry classrooms are constantly teeming with children of all ages. When the church halls and sanctuary are filled with the sound of kids’ laughter and chattering, there are signs of life in church. In the midst of this pandemic, however, there has been a deep lacking of those joyful sounds in the building. /// SEE PAGE 7
