Rizvi wins against Pakistan to become Asian Champions!
e team from Rizvi College of Arts, Commerce & Science, Bandra – representing India (Mumbai University),won a closely contested final against Pakistan's Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology. is was the Red Bull Campus Cricket Asia Final match (20 overs) held at Colombo in Sri Lanka. On winning the toss, Rizvi College chose to bat – scoring 149 runs for 9 wickets. Initially, Rizvi was reduced to 71runs for 6 wickets. Jason Smith shatters records at Mumbai and State Meet
Jason Smith from Bandra, had recently participated in the All Mumbai Swim Meet (GMAAA) followed by the Maharashtra State Meet (MSAAA) held at the Balewadi Sports Complex, Pune - earlier this month, where he performed exceptionally well. Results of the 9th BFL 2012 Companeroes S.C. & Carmelites S.C. scored impressive victories blasting their rivals in the 9th Bandra West Football League 2012 conducted by the Bandra West Football Association under the auspices of the Mumbai District Football Association at the Dr. Norman Lewis Supari Talao municipal grounds on Sunday 8th July 2012. Wren D’Abreo who scored 4 goals including a hat trick for Companeroes was instrumental in his sides big victory as they thrashed Bharat Strikers 10-0 in a second round fixture. Agnel Pereira added three while Aiden Gresseux, Rohel Sheikh and Allan D’Sousa scored a goal each. Carmelites who were spearheaded by Indian hockey Olympian Viren Rasquinha, were up 4-0 within fieen minutes of play with Lucian D’Souza getting all the goals. ereaer Ryan Kinny, Cedric Pinto and Vijay Patil scored at regular intervals in the second half to help Carmelites beat Zears F.C. 7-1. the Mumbai Meet held early May 2012, he bagged 5 gold medals, setting new records in all events, winning him the overall Championship in the Boys Group II category – His events were: 200 M Individual Medley, 400 M Individual Medley, 200 M Freestyle, 100 M Butterfly Stroke and 800 M Freestyle events. He then continued his form at the Maharashtra State meet in Balewadi, Pune. ere he set the pool on fire with 4 State Records, 6 Golds and 1 Silver. Here too all records were set in his individual events with 2 Gold in the relay. His only Silver came in the 800 M freestyle. Once again, he was the Individual Champion in his age group Boys U/14. He now represents Maharashtra in his 3rd straight National Swimming Competition to be held in Chennai in July 2012. Jason is a student of Std IX at Beacon High School, Khar. His school has also encouraged and supported him, enabling him to come this far in sports. All kudos goes to Jason and his coach Mr. Subodh Danke who coaches him - and the Khar Gymkhana Club which he represents.
