AYJNIHH turning a Deaf Ear to the Deaf The Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped (AYJNIHH) was recently in the news for all the wrong reasons. The AYJNIHH, which is fully funded by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India & established for assisting the deaf by providing jobs and services, has been turning a deaf ear to their needs. Such is the state of aairs at the institute that last Wednesday many state associations involved in helping the deaf, assisted by Mr Prasad Salvi & Mr. Altaf Khan from MNS, joined hands and took out a silent morcha from Sir Ali Yavar Jung Institute bus stop to the gates of the institute. This 400 plus assembly handed over a list of thirteen grievances to the Director Dr. A.K. Sinha. What was appalling was the fact that the Director had no answer to most of the grievances put before him. Valerian D’costa CONTD. ON PAGE 6 >>

Helmet Girl Bandra sets a new trend to make a better place

Bandra

'We all criticise, we all complaint, we all point out the wrong but do we help'...this holds true for Mumbaikars as we often put the blame on the system and the government for all the flaws that we see around us. But what do we do as an individual to bring about change? "I want to help in anyway possible," claims the Helmet Girl of Bandra - Lisa Sadanah. Living in Bandra for over a decade now, Lisa Sadanah has realised that Bandra is a beautiful place where people live together as a community and Bandra shines as the central suburb of Mumbai. But how is Lisa different? What has she done? And why is she called Helmet Girl? Well, Lisa has done something crazy, something humorous yet courageous and out of the box. So, when you are out in Bandra or nearby and you see a girl wearing a helmet at any hotel, restaurant, shopping complex, mall, parties or at while just walking on the street then that's Lisa or... that's the Helmet Girl! You may find it strange and amusing to find her wearing the helmet at random public places and that's what she exactly wants - your attention! She believes, "Anything that is funny grabs attention, people like humour and therefore feel comfortable to talk to me." So, Lisa wears the helmet on and talks to random people wherever she goes about traffic safety, rules and creates awareness about few steps that we should bear in mind. "Sometimes people think I am mad and yes I am because I am doing something different. I am not harming anyone but I am just conveying my message in a funny and unique way," she explains. A mother of two, Lisa is young at heart and people relate to her because she is funny, different and outgoing. In Mumbai, we have the basic excuse - 'I don't have time'... Everybody is in a hurry and does not bother about anyone. Patience is not there at all and we don't want to follow rules too. That is

why we break rules, cause accidents and yet get away easily. She says, "Corruption lies in you and me and the system too. If we leave a bit early to our destination and be patient enough to wait, things will be different. " Riding bikes since childhood, Lisa recollects that she never used to wear helmet. But now she wears a helmet whenever she rides and makes her kids wear it too. Life is important and often we lose lives because of no fault of ours. Most of the times, 'accidents' occur due to the fault of others and the careless attitude of the opposite person. Helmet Girl therefore pleads everyone, "You don't realise the seriousness of the situation unless you lose someone. When somebody of your own family dies or your own loved ones suffer due to rash driving or racing, only then you will realise the intensity. But, then it is too late." Helmets are often disturbing and seem like a headache in summers and the helmet girl agrees to this. She believes that helmets should me made in a more stylised manner so that it protects the user and looks cool too. "We are a trendy nation and our helmet companies can definitely customise cool helmets for us. And surely, folks will buy it," she advices. 'It is always difficult to stand apart from the crowd'...The helmet girl who pronounces the need to improve our style of living and abiding by the rules herself follows all the rules strictly. She claims, "It is very difficult to follow the rules when everyone is breaking it. It is really difficult to do right when everyone is doing wrong." But the courageous Helmet Girl is up for the challenge. She has gained tremendous traction and followers on social media and is thus spreading her message in an effective way. She concludes, "I can't change the world but I want to do something small in my own way to help make a better place and I need your support. Let's make a better place to live, let's stay safe and spread smiles around."

they called Karen D'mello, and even put up a board there, initially to combat the problem two bins were also put and even a watchman was put on duty as one of the solutions, the dustbins proved eective and people would dump their garbage in them, however the dustbins got robbed and the watchman was ineective, Daulat again stressed that the oenders are NOT the locals from the adjoining Wadi, they (Wadi residents) she said they get their trash when the truck comes along. Daulat went on to say that she and a group of women had gone to visit the wadi residents door to door to tell the people to only take their garbage out when the truck comes. Pankaj Nirmal a gentleman that runs a cleansers at New Kantwadi when contacted by the Bandra Buzz also expressed annoyance at the problem and stated that a few things that would help would be, educating children in schools about hygienic acceptable garbage disposal methods, to educate and empower the locals so they stop oenders as they are the ones most likely to come in contact with oenders, for the BMC to impose a ďŹ ne on oenders (to this extent a letter has been sent to Karen D'mello from Rinki), and the formation of an ALM and the installing of a watchman

Bandra

The residents of New Kantwadi have found themselves in an annoying stinky situation. It has become a prime dumping ground for many and is frequented by rats, cats and crows, a few residents have even complained about the rats damaging property and biting car tires and even people. Mrs. Rinki Roy Bhattacharya, a resident of New Kantwadi recalled when she moved here in the year 2000 the area was very clean but gradually people would unceasingly dump their garbage at the spot. Its important to note that as she pointed out The individuals responsible for dumping the garbage at the problem point at New Kantwadi are not from the area, but from areas like Sherly Rajan Road and Carter Road among others. In the past, as close back as only a few days ago with the aid of Karen D'mello (Muncipal Corporator of Ward H/W, Ward No. 96) and a lot of local support from the neighborhood, the New Kantwadi Road Residents Association managed to clean the area up but again offenders would come and continue to drop garbage at the spot soon after. Speaking to Daulat Shandiwan another resident of Kantwadi, she too told us that the oenders come from Carter road and other places on motorcycle inging their bags of garbage and riding o. Daulat said

Mountainous heap of garbage is dumped at this site on New Kantwadi Road opposite State Bank of India, Carter Road branch, next to Spencer building service. Also note in the letter from Rinki to Karen is the mention of need for the beautiďŹ cation of the problem area in the hope that would curb oenders. The goal is to convert the area to a zero garbage zone. The undertaking requires not only residential participation which has been more than forthcoming but citi-

zen participation from out of New Kantwadi, and so Bandra Buzz too urges any that are reading this article to help put an end to the plight of New Kantwadi and other residential areas in similar plight by refraining from indulging in the oence of littering in no litter zones. Wayne Lemos

It’s high time we gave back something to society, says Shaan at Rizvi College’s Social Drive

Bandra

Ex-Stanislite singer Shaan inaugurated the first social drive organized by Rizvi College of Arts, Science & Commerce, in which the college donates clothes (t-shirts, shoes, notebooks, bags, sweets, biscuits, etc.) and other gift articles to the under privileged street children and other school going poor children - a social cause done for the benefit of humanity. Speaking on the occasion, Shaan said, "In this modern and fast tracked world, everybody is living for themselves. It is high time we gave back something to the society - especially to the youth as children are the future of the country." He then sang a few songs from his movies, to pep up the students and street children. Shaan added that he felt privileged to inaugurate the function and contribute to the noble cause also praising Dr. M.Z. Farooqui (Principal), management, cultural committee members and students for the initiative and hoped that the social cause would continue in the future. Dr. Farooqui thanked Shaan for attending the function on a very short notice and appealed to the students and staff that they should not wait for the next “Social Drive” to do good work as we in our own small way can do good work, by helping the poor (under privileged street children, sick people and senior citizen) and our parents in whatever small way possible. The prinicpal also thanked the Chief Guest for the day - Fr. Andrews (S.J.), Vice Principal, St. Stanislaus High School and Sir Minaz, who were the moving spirit behind the function; along with the cultural team led by Mrs. Rajeshwari Padmanabhan (Degree College Cultural Secretary), Mrs. Sandhya Nautiyan (Junior

Scholarship to Study Abroad Students looking forward to study abroad often explore the option of scholarship to fund their studies partly or fully. Scholarships have always helped students support their financial need for courses falling outside their budget. Generally universities and colleges provide scholarships to students. Beside universities and colleges there are trusts, foundations and organizations that also offers student scholarship to study abroad. University and college scholarships can be classified broadly into two categories. One is admission based and the other is condition based. Admission based scholarships are offered to students upon successful admission to the university or college, there are no other criteria for this type of scholarship. Condition based scholarships are offered to students before or after conditional admission to the university or college. Students have to fulfill certain conditions laid down by the university or college to avail this kind of scholarship.

The scholarship amount may vary from Rs. 35,000/to Rs. 2,00,000/- or more approximately

Some examples of condition based scholarships are fixed amount scholarship, percentage of discount on full fee payment, free accommodation, etc. The scholarship amount approximately vary from Rs. 35,000/- to Rs. 2,00,000/- or more. Students can also avail external scholarship like • State Government Sponsorship • British Council • Commonwealth Scholarship & Fellowship Plan • Charles Wallace India Trust Awards • Royal Society Fellowships • Dr. Manmohan Singh Scholarships • De Souza Trust Goa Scholarship and more… Apart from the above mentioned scholarship category, students are also offered scholarships in the form of term or semester exemptions. Students who have completed part of their studies in India and aspiring to continue their further studies in abroad are exempted of course term or semester. Hence, it enables students to get direct admission into higher studies without having completing the entire course and save money & valuable years. For e.g. If a student is a Diploma holder in Aeronautical Engineering and wants to study a Bachelor degree course, he can get direct admission

into 2nd year of degree course. Hence, instead of 3 or 4 years he may complete B.E. (Hons.) degree in 2 years. It is always advisable that students should start searching for scholarships eighteen months prior to the date of joining a university or college. Study abroad consultants often play a pivotal role in guiding students with adequate information on scholarship and taking care of all

the documentation, says Mr. Aslam Shaikh of Aliff Overseas. Aliff Overseas prides in securing 100% scholarships for most of the eligible students it places worldwide. Study abroad and scholarship goes hand in hand. Aliff Overseas, a leading study abroad consultants takes care of both, thus proving students with an unique opportunity to study abroad at Indian cost.

AYJNIHH turning a Deaf Ear to the Deaf

Instances of high-handedness by the staff, who have no knowledge of sign language or who are inept in dealing with the disabled was a common complaint by most of the deaf. Besides, no deaf have been appointed at the institute in the last 25 years and the incumbents are mostly family members of already existing staff members, who allegedly submit fake education, caste and disability certificates. Even getting an appointment for testing an audiogram is an enormous task with patients being given dates which are up to two months later, and even on the appointed date in some cases, the appointment is deferred. Same is the case with obtaining ear moulds. Rates charged for services are based on the whims and fancies of the officers and there is no clarity or even a rate card provided. In fact, until a while ago, certain services were provided free of cost but not anymore. With such haphazard management of the institute, it’s not surprising then that this unrest has simmered and spilt over. RTI applications filed with the institute have also yielded ambiguous responses from the PIO and Appellate Authority. An institute that has been set up to assist the disabled is actually doing just the opposite by creating headaches for them. Mr. Prasad Salvi gave the director fifteen days to address the 13 issues in the letter failing which he would request the Government to initiate a CBI inquiry against the anomalies in the demeanour of the institute. King Momo & entourage at The Goan Carnival at St. Stanislaus Back Ground

Bandra

Goan Carnival - In Bandra For the very first time, Mumbai experienced one of the biggest carnivals. The Goan Carnival was organized by Mr. Felix Sequeira, with a grand opening on floats dominated by King Momo - who was accompanied by his beautiful Queen Mimi and her entourage. The carnival was packed to the rafters, with guests impatiently waiting for ‘The Nightingale of Goa’ - Lorna to perform ‘live’ on stage, followed Kenny Zuzarte & a variety of Russian, Belly, Harem & Goan folk dances. The theme of the carnival was - eat, drink & make merry. People celebrated life by spontaneous dancing, watching the mesmerizing performances and enjoyed delicious mouth watering goan delicacies. Among the guest were V.V.I.P's like Cornel Marshall Roberts from the Indian army, Mrs. Alka Kelkar – Deputy Mayor of Mumbai, Mr. Geoffrey Menezes, Dr. Arjun Nishani, Dr. Girish Savakare & many more. Mr. Felix Sequeira from Sequeira Homes has created an event that is now well positioned in Mumbai’s calendar of events - at Bandra, Queen of the Suburbs. The question being asked by many people who attended that unique event is - “How soon can they reserve passes for The Goan Carnival 2017”. Now, that says something!

Sebastian Carnival - Happiness is here! The streets of St. Sebastian Homes Colony came alive with colourful floats as enthusiastic participants danced to the Sebastian Recreation Facility at Rest Ranwar grounds, entertaining the public along the way. Beautiful props, colourful costumes & well co-ordinated performances were put up by the residents of the colony to showcase the theme 'Happiness is Here'. The spontaneous dance and singing added to the camaraderie - creating a community spirit that was unique & superb to experience. Warren Fernandes, Hon. Secretary of Sebastian Homes told Bandra Buzz, “The aim of this carnival was to bring the residents closer and create a spirit of fun and harmony in the society. The team captains and co-ordinators, especially Patrice Fernandes, Sandra D'Souza and Daphne Sardinha played an important role in bringing people together. The judges for the performances were Jennifer Pereira Headmistress of St. Stanislaus, Sharmila Dias - singer and performer & Merck D’Silva – Editor, Bandra Buzz. St. Roque Road won the First Prize, followed by Dr. Peter Dias Road and Rebello Road.” Darryl Loyola was wonderful as ‘Shantabai’ and gave that extra zing to the show. Walter’s Duo Live Band spurred dancing feet, with their foot-tapping selection of music. Everyone enjoyed themselves in their own way and many were reluctant to leave, as deadline time approached. Both these carnivals created many memorable moments that will be remembered forever. Kimberley Paul

Bombay Arts Society, the source & summit of Art, stems at Bandra Reclamation

Bandra

Bandra, being a land of culture and art, resonates tremendous talent and artistic work in its various elements. And this creative inclination of Bandra has been further enhanced as the Bombay Arts Society of India has taken birth in this land right near Reclamation. Established in 1888, the Bombay Arts Society was founded with a view to encourage and expose various forms of visual arts and appreciate the work of phenomenal artists. All this while the society functioned at various places with the recent outlet at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. But now the most eminent art society of our nation has shifted just near Reclamation in our very own Bandra which serves as a intersection of both the suburb and town citizens. Inaugurated by the Honorable Prime Minister of India on February 13, 2016, the Bombay Arts Society at Bandra has opened a new arena for various visual art forms and artists to display their work encourage innovative talent. For now, the 13000 sq.ft. structure has three galleries, a 90-seater auditorium, library with journals of the history of the society and Indian art and an art shoppe which customises t-shirts and mugs. Paintings made out of different elements like oil, canvas, colour, pencil sketches, paints and paper craft of ancient India, modern India, historic events, places, personalities and paramount events fill the galleries with mesmerising artistic beauty. While, sculptures carved out of plaster of paris, wood, stone, sand and clay add to the beauty and send a refreshing wave to your eye. After a good walk around the gallery, losing yourself in the phenomenal art work and minute detailing is just bound to happen as you are left with awe and your heart exclaiming 'Wow, what an Art...!' Well, that's not it, the library hosts a number of books to engross you in the pool of knowledge and information about India art with a gaze at international art too. As it is said that 'Art can never be defined as it has no limits' so the Bombay Arts Society at Bandra will extend its tentacles by conducting talks, lectures, film screenings, seminars, workshops, exhibitions, museum display and artist recognition events to tell the world what art is all about and engage them into this creative field. So, professional artists from Bandra

or any part of the country can apply to the society with his/her art work and may get an opportunity to display their work to millions after a thorough review from the managing committee. 'Art deserves due recognition and an expansive platform' and the Bombay Arts Society provides both. It has been hosting the Annual Art Exhibition since over a century to display, appreciate and reward the work of contemporary artists all over India and abroad. Renowned artists like M.F. Hussain, M.R. Achrekar, Akbar Padamsee and Raja Ravi Varma have been recognised by this exhibition and associated with the society. And, the extravagant display of art forms, the 124th Art Exhibition based on Master of Indian Art will be held at Jehangir Art Gallery from February 23-29, 2016 from 11am-7pm. The Bombay Arts Society, one of the first art society established in India, has its roots deep into the evolution, transformation and growth of Indian art. Several awards, scholarships and opportunities are continuously provided by the society to encourage and enhance art in India. As the society is a nonprofit society it urges people to extend their help and support in all forms with a principle view of helping the growth of art in India & abroad. Bandra is privileged to embrace this culturallly rich society and help encourage art forms in India as it serves as the central hub of the Bombay Arts Society henceforth. 'India and Art' can never be separated and the Bombay Arts Society is the cornerstone of this unison. A walk around the society at Bandra is truly an unforgettable experience and an entralling refreshment for everyone!

Order & eat food the way you want nitely fill their stomach to the core,” promises Lawrence. And this holds true for the Crazy Burger which has a stuffing of ham, salami, bacon, cheese, chicken, egg and much more… topped by cheese this burger is a heavy meal just to hold, eating it is a different game altogether! The filling is absolutely mesmerising and with each bite you will definitely crave for another. Undoubtedly, it is the most Crazy Burger I have ever had! For in every bite you feel the presence of meat along with the flavour of the sauce and cheese, so there is no compromise on the stuffing at all. The pizzas are quite unique for it is made using the thin crisp bread unlike the usual thick bread which kills the taste of the pizza toppings entirely. And if you look at the sandwich, it is huge and quite healthy as it is neatly prepared with all natural ingredients and homemade sauces. The fresh lime soda and non-alcoholic beer help to gulp the pasta or main course down your throat and refresh your being. “Teenagers love to drink the non-alcoholic beer as it is not harmful and does not contain any contain alcohol. Well, the fresh lime soda works good for their throat and cough and cold.

Apart from the food, Hungry Duck at Pali has a good ambience with 10 tables that seems to be a perfect place for a group of friends to chill and grab tasty bites. The place is well lit, quite cool in terms of environment and the walls are painted with caricatures drawn by a young kid which gives the youthful feel and relaxes your mind. And, the pleasing music that is constantly played adds life to the place as it makes you groove and enjoy your meal after a tiring day. “You can put whatever music you like, just connect your phone or music device and feel at home. And tell me what you want to add in your food, I will do it happily,” exclaims Lawrence. Just in the lane at Pali Hill, Hungry Duck at Pali is a perfect place for folks to hang out, spend time with each other and have good quality food in enormous quantity. Lawrence believes, “Our selling point is food and I want to give the people the best food made in the best way that they feel. For after all, the consumer is the real decider of food, if they like it then the food is good.” If you haven’t tried ducks lately then rush to Hungry Duck at Pali Hill like a hungry soul and you be fulfilled lavishly!

Lawrence, who has been a chef in the food industry for around 30 years, always wanted to start something of his own and believed in starting a small food joint where he could experiment and try his own style of food preparations. And, Hungry Duck at Pali is like his home where he explores his food and caters to every

customer in a loving, friendly and caring manner. Hungry Ducks at Pali has a menu which has varied fast food items like fries, sandwiches, pastas, pizzas, burgers, rolls, toast, salads, rice, garlic bread, veggies, spaghetti, chops, steak, gravy and mash potatoes. And to sweeten your taste buds there are caramel and chocolate desert along with refreshing fresh lime soda, ice tea and non-alcoholic beer available as fresh as ever. ‘All dishes are prepared and served ROAST house style’…so even DUCK though you are munching fast food you feel as if you are eating home food which is much more tastier and innovative. And the food is served in innovative ways so that it looks interesting. Well, the food items not only look interesting but also taste phenomenal. Everything right from all sauces used, mash, soup, mayonnaise, fresh lime soda and the varied amount of filings are made by Lawrence himself. He says, “The sauces are unique because I make it myself and therefore you can’t get it in the market.” Well, the sauces do the magic by adding the extra flavour to the Chicken Sandwich or Duck Burger and you can ask for more sauce without hesitation. Lawrence is always happy to add more sauce and reduce some sauce as per your taste requirements. Another feature that sets Hungry Duck at Pali apart from the rest is the freshness of duck meat that attracts you and aggravates your taste buds to try out the dish immersed in the finger linking sauces and stuffed with relishing fillings. “We want people to crave for food and we will defi-

8th February 2016 was a landmark day in the portals of St. Theresa’s High School Bandra (W), as the school had a farewell for 156 students of the SSC batch of 2015-16. The highlight of the event was the Theresian Prince Contest, which comprised of a ramp walk and a self introductory round, by the contestants, followed by the chosen few for the Rapid Question round. Prizes were given out for good behaviour, discipline, neatness, regular attendance and very helpful nature, as well as, spot prizes for best hairstyle/physique, to name a few. The teachers organised fun games for all to participate in. The students of Std. IX lit up the stage as they danced to meaningful song tracks. One of the dancers did mention, that the selection of songs was all positive and deliberate. He drew up an analogy whilst sitting 3 songs; that ‘Ole Mc Donald had a Farm’ was a song dedicated to remind the Std X boys of the 10 to 12 years, including the early childhood formative years that they’ve spent and explored within this school campus. The song track ‘I Got the Power’ was purposefully chosen to reiterate the fact that one must always stand tall, no matter what may come ones way, just stay strong! and powerful! and lastly, the track “Chal Beta Sabzi Lele Re’ was meant, to draw attention to the fact that, no matter how high you may fly in ones endeavour to reach for the stars, never forget your roots, in fact stay loving and always helpful at home, too. The Chief Guest, Fr. John Mascarenhas gave the students an amazingly profound message to take home, when he advised them that whilst they may progress to become professionals in the fields of Medicine, Law,

L to R: Fr. Nicholas D'costa (Principal - St.Theresa's High School), Sammik Pereira (First Runner Up), Darren Gigool (Theresian Prince) and Yash Agrawal (Second Runner Up) Media, Engineering, etc. however, above all, that they must qualify themselves with ‘Heart’. Fr. Nicholas D’costa (Principal), gave the boys good nuggets of advice, when he reminded them to stay motivated, focused and far thinking, to strive for the better, to be unique in ones ideas and think progressively, to go be-

yond one’s comfort level, and, to stay grooved into the motto of the school ‘Je Choisis Tout’ (I Choose All) As this warmly orchestrated event came to a closure, each student was given a memento with the inscription “Sparkle Forever’. Sarita Manchanda

Letters to the Editor

RASH DRIVING Its high time we stand up against rash and negligent drivers and motorists. Firstly our streets here in Mumbai are narrow and on top of that there are vehicles that are over speeding and also sometimes going in the wrong way (come to Bandra someday and see for yourself on roads like Chimbai Road, Chapel Road, Waroda Road, Bazaar Road and other narrow lanes). Our footpaths are encroached with hawkers (come and have a look at Hill Road someday), beggars and other drunkards and druggies sleeping. Its better our law enforcement agency takes action and makes pedestrian safety a priority too. Our law enforcement agency should set up a helpline wherein a person can easily and directly report an overspeeding vehicle or a vehicle parked in a wrong way causing trouble and obstruction to pedestrians! We also need the law enforcement agency to set up speed limits in these narrow lanes and anyone breaking that speed limit should be punished. Saying all this because I have noticed with my own eyes multiple times pedestrians being hit by vehicles while walking! Stand up now or someday even you could be a victim of someone's rash and negligent driving! Adnan Mookhtiar Over 70,000 Bandraites who daily visit the Bazaar Road Municipal Market for buying groceries, fish, meat and vegetables are up in arms regarding the auto rickshaws and two wheelers entering Bazaar Road which is a one way road. Many people have complained about this to the Senior Inspector, Bandra Traffic department that young boys without having

SPURIOUS HELMETS UNSAFE The recent Supreme Court order has made it compulsory for riders and pillion riders of two wheelers to wear helmets. However, it has been observed that people often choose to wear helmets of low quality. May I ask: why is the sale of such inferior-quality products allowed, given that it puts lives in danger? People pay about Rs 200 to Rs 300 for these spurious products; while authentic high quality and safe helmets would cost them Rs 1,000 or more. Are riders willing to risk their precious lives just to save a few hundred rupees? I strongly feel that the sale of low-quality helmets should be banned. It is important to save lives, not create livelihoods for selfish and greedy money minded people, who manufacture spurious goods. ON LINE TO DEAD LINE The caption definitely has two meanings. The first two words mean convenient purchase & the last two words mean the result of an online purchase. This has the highest possibility when purchasing drugs online. Yes, most readers must have read leading newspapers advertising availability of drugs for purchase online. Most of these products are fake or have expired dates - resulting in dangerous side-effects, even death. It is better to buy your medical drugs from your neighbourhood chemist store - to ensure the satisfaction of genuine medicine & save precious lives. Online purchase is fine for other items. The govt. should wake up & enforce a ban on the online sale of drugs. If a beef ban could be enforced, I see no difficulty to do something similar for this issue as it can save severe health problems & precious lives. This could be the wisest decision the present government could implement - resulting in citizens having access only to genuine medical drugs. Faust D. Dear Reader, Mid February is when we have a dramatic climate change. After hectic shopping at Hill Road or Linking Road or any of Bandra’s busy by-lanes; Bandra’s great outdoors, her wide open spaces like parks and promenades are ideal spots to beat the heat, that is gradually building up - and chill out. This is also when most of us are recovering from a lot of continuous festivities from late November. Now, most people are in ‘Pause Mode’. However, under currents are pushing certain groups forward. Although a lot of genuine issues are being honestly addressed by concerned authorities, in Bandra and her surrounding suburbs - many have political overtones. Today, citizens are not naive - and can see through the thought process of those who are conniving and corrupt. And then, there are those who join a political party, just to safeguard their own wrong-doings - by being part of the power lobby that decides matters of public interest. Some will switch loyalties to suit their hidden agendas and reap short term benefits. These are the worms of society. In the bargain, common citizens are taken for a ride; even as these ulterior under currents increase day by day, with subtle political power play. As your local voice, Bandra Buzz will

stand by you, if you have any news worthy information that will alert your neighbourhood. Do not hesitate to be an active part of creating a better Bandra. Your constructive comments to local issues, news and events are imperative to the vitality of your community. Meanwhile, look around and see the gradual improvements of our surroundings. Plans are being implemented and civic amenities improved. Bandra Station and surrounding areas are expected to have a major facelift, being a heritage structure. Similarly, there are other beautification projects in the pipeline - some more being the Bandra Talao, Bandra Reclamation Promenade, etc. Readers inputs will be useful at this stage - so that the concerned authorities can take a note. Please pen your thoughts now – for a better tomorrow. Till next time, take care.

AUTO RICKSHAW STRIKE All these Autorickshaw & Taxi guys accept passengers at their own whim and fancy. They have guts to refuse right under the nose of a policeman! Then they keep increasing their fares without any justifications. Even the electronic meters are tampered with. Also, many of these vehicles are running on false certifications & credentials. These guys are one of the major offenders of all traffic rules. And now they want to go on strike because they can't bear to see someone taking their business - Wow! Fancy that! They do not want to accept that better services & acceptance of all fares is why people prefer Uber/Ola to autos & taxis! Not to mention the comfort of travelling in AC & at a reasonable incremental extra cost. Porus D. Tavadia

a licence or without wearing helmets speed through this No Entry road, thereby causing injuries to school children as well as old people and local residents. But till date no action has been taken. The residents have even put forward their complaint to Milan Barambe, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic department, but he too does not listen to them. Through this newspaper, I therefore request Mr Milan Barambe, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic department to please look into the matter before the residents could create havoc on the streets and stage a road block. HAWKER MENACE These encroachments or compulsive selling are due to the lazy people who want easy access to purchases. It's an apathy how people blame the system and they themselves not working towards it. Why can't people go & buy in markets or call for them online. All this can be resolved. Next 1-2 years Bandra may loose out to such people who want to deface its beauty. Hill road has become a terrible horrible place. No charm left and its loosing day by day. It's time to wake up and act. Pradeep B Sawant
