TRIBUTE

Roshan Dabhoiwalla: a BIG Hearted Lady - R.I.P. Roshan Dabhoiwalla was a Parsi to the core, in as much as you know they are loud mouthed, (though hers was a soft voice) but honest, fun loving and generous. Although she was cut and dry, I don’t think she had any enemies - but was straight forward and called a Spade a Spade. A BIG Hearted lady who gave all her time to others. She was straight forward and self-sacrificing. I remember her boldness in ticking off a Ward Officer, because the toilet at the H West Ward used to stink and she even supplied disinfectant to the Ward Office. She has many achievements in the field of Social Work - but her BIGGEST

ACHIEVEMENT was the Carter Road promenade which she nurtured as her ‘Baby’. It was she and only she; who can take credit for the Carter promenade. She used to struggle to raise funds tokeep this promenade in ship shape. When she ran out of funds for maintenance of this beautiful promenade, she would stand with a money box and collect even coins to meet the maintenance expense. The Amphitheatre which she closely monitored was something we should take a tip from her. She made sure that it was not misused and ensured those hiring the promenade did not flout noise pollution rules. She personally would monitor the

placement of the loudspeakers and the decibel levels. What an Inspiration. There are several achievements to her credit viz the setting up of the Dog Park, the Children’s Enclosure, etc. and there were several other issues which she was pursuing but her life being cut short, she could not complete. viz. She tried to stop dumping of garbage on the mangroves, and encroachments, one particular being the temple that the fisher folk have set up in the sea. I have asked Corporator Asif Zakaria to propose that this promenade be named after her. Anandani Thakoor

Hospitality Queen Sapna Damani Manufacturer and Supplier of Exclusive Bed, Bath and Table Linen

Sapna Damani started her business about 10 years ago, initially catering to the hospitality requirements of the hotel & airline industry. She stepped up her capacity, as orders started pouring in due to her strict quality control. Being a simple housewife, she did not have the desire to develop her business at the start-up stage. When her children grew up, she felt the need to expand - and did it one step at a time. Today, she cannot believe herself, how her small business - which started with just job-works, has now grown up exponentially. Her initial monetary investment was very small, but her passion & persistence huge. This pushed her forward to multiply her returns. Sapna tells us how a normal housewife would invest their money in jewels, but she thought ‘out-of-the-box’ and instead invested her profits back into her own business. First, it was a single machine. This gradually grew to the second, third… Her workshop needed a deposit of a couple of lakhs, which she managed with a lot of personal sacrifice, loans, etc. But her determination did wonders,

and her workforce increased to satisfy the growing demands. She now has 7 to 8 employees in her factory and 8 to 10 employees on the field, getting orders and delivering goods. Now, her most prestigious client is ‘Taj Lands End’, Bandra - where she is the major supplier of their F&B needs. Under her brand ‘Gir Creations’, Sapna supplies them table & chair covers, linen, etc. Among her other top clients are ‘Sofitel’ and ‘Trident’ from BKC, and the Lalit chain of hotels. Years back she had got a small job-work from Leela, Centaur, near the old airport, which was appreciated. At that time she did not have a factory. She used to hire tailors for each job. Then, her confidence grew - and she decided to start her own factory. Orders from Air-India came in for the air-craft cock-pit regular requirements of disposable seat cover upholstery, aprons, etc. The experience gained in the last ten years has made her strong enough to look ahead. Since the hotel & airline industry hospitality requirement is huge, Sapna has big plans to enhance her present achievements. Sapna had a stall in a recent exhibition at Goregaon - and received a lot of positive response, with appreciation and orders from other hotels. Even old clients saw her new samples at the stall and decided to come back & order from her once again. Enquiries for new projects had come in. An exporter too has made an enquiry. This has encouraged her, with a feeling of ‘new beginnings’. She would like to specially thank Pallavi Kashyab - Director of Hosts Exhibitions, Mumbai, for persuading her to take part in the exhibition - that has given a good boost to her business, and can help her to take it to that next level of success. Sapna can be contacted on 2822 0341 / 9324620341 or gircreations@yahoo.co.in Haresh Chabria

04 FEBRUARY 2014 POWER PLAY IN PROGRESS Do Not Disturb Dear Readers, Fabulous February in Bandra needs to be experienced to believe how hues change dramatically in our neighbourhood, as the cool weather warms up to welcome summer. The time around Valentine Week is when love is in the air – and various expressions of love are magnified for all to see. And… why not? Life is meant for living, loving, appreciating and giving – not grumbling. The Bellamy Brothers hit says it all – ‘Lovers live longer, lovers live right…’ Our national elections are just around the corner, and its ripple effect is seen all around Bandra. BMC efficiency has improved. Certain areas are appeased with better civic amenities. Long standing issues are re-

BANDRABUZZ.COM solved quickly. The ‘impossible’ is ‘possible’ – now. Do not ask how or why. Suddenly, our elected representatives are very concerned about our inflated BMC taxes & electricity bills. Traffic cops are kept on their toes, especially if some neta is around the neighbourhood. Being the hub of activism, connected Bandraites are kept happy with lavish dinners & entertainment. The smile on the faces of ourfavorite local politicians are the broadest at this point of time. This is prime time for ‘notes’ & ‘votes’ – so the means does not matter, it is results that really matter. Friends yesterday and today can become foes tomorrow – and foes yesterday can become friends today & tomorrow. In politics, everything is fair. Power play is the name of the game. You are subtly told not to disturb. In our upcoming issues, Bandra Buzz will let you feel the pulse of politics – with neighbourhood reactions to the national level political drama that enfolds

This month end we celebrate Maha Shivaratri – one of the greatest Hindu festival - that is essentially the convergence of Shiva & Shakti. And looking ahead, are the carnival festivities, thatwill be celebrated till Lent, leading us to the exciting season of spring. Till then, take care.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR CP RAKESH MARIA At last, after much delay for 16 days; the city of Mumbai got its new police commissioner and top cop Senior IPS officer Rakesh Maria. Despite difference of opinion between the two ruling partners Congress and NCP, the compromise formula was followed due to the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, in which they did not want any controversy - which can be an advantage to the opposition parties. I strongly feel that with the appointment of Rakesh Maria as the CP, he has a challenging job to tackle. He has come as a breath of fresh air - with the alarming crime rate, especially against women and the rampart corruption in the police force, which has degraded the image of the Mumbai police to rock bottom. Bandraites can be proud to have Rakesh Maria as the city’s top cop. The urgent need of the hour is that CP Rakesh Maria who is intelligent and hard working; must handle the crime rate and the corrupt police cop with an iron hand. It is high time the rank and file of the Mumbai police force must co-operate with new CP and see to it that our city of Mumbai is free from any hurdles to make it strong & stable for the local citizens. PATWARDHAN PARK DUMP I recently was assigned to perform work & write a report on ‘The effect of Tourist Activities on the Environment.’ This gave me an opportunity to connect myself to the environment. Through this letter I want to cognizance the make shift garbage bin that is created right outside Patwardhan Park, located close to the shopping hub, 'Linking Road'. This dump located just 20 steps away from the park is getting bothersome and vexing for the regular visitors

of the park. The foul odour spoils the pleasant atmosphere of the park. The park is perfectly manicured and the authorities are always vigilant and alert to prevent littering in the park. The authorities should take the initiative to not only clean the house ‘Park’ but also the surrounding. Just keeping the house clean is what we desire for but who will keep the city clean?? My aim here is to demonstrate that a public place where a make shift garbage area is created may have consequences on the health of the children who come to the park to enjoy. This garbage dump can be a core for breeding mosquitoes. The sudden rise in the level of kids suffering from diseases like Malaria and Dengue is not fortuitous. I think BMC should look into this matter and make the necessary changes to clear away and abolish this practice of dumping waste in that area. If it proves entirely impossible to prevent people from dumping garbage, placing a garbage bin would at least help to maintain the area in an organised manner. This will be a paltry move but can have a huge impact on the city. It is time to change and we can bring the change, this change will be observed by hundreds of people who visit the park and it may motivate them to bring massive transition. Let the spark of change advance. Nothing is constant. But one thing is… CHANGE! Amina Azmi

CHIMBAI KHALLA Chimbai Khalla in D.P. Plan Survey Department at the Building Proposal Department is marked for development for housing Muncipal Staff. All these illegal buildings in the Khalla have mushroomed due to their chief ‘Patron’. This local politician, for his vote bank policy is the cause why the cor-

ner of St. Pauls and St. Dominic's road near "Casa Maria" cottage / Dilkush is become a dumping ground for garbage. If you vote for such a politician, then you should not complain about the garbage. You should not become trash cans by accepting Dust bins before elections. Our elected representatives go breaking coconuts for inaugurations; then, after elections coconuts go out of stock. Be wise - cast your vote wisely at the upcoming general elections. Leslie Almeida

TATA DOCOMO COMPLAINT I bought Photon Max WiFi No. 09222244080 on 7th December 2013 from their Hill Road Branch, Bandra West. On 8th December 2013, I put a request to cancel my old Photon Max No. 09223814868, yet I was convinced by the same shop to pay one more bill and it will be resolved. On 20th December 2014, once again I went to the same shop who also sent you a request on email to cancel Photon Max No. 09223814868. Guess what? Today I once again I get SMS to pay Rs. 1051/- for February 2014. Yesterday I did get a call from your office but they cut the phone abruptly; so I wonder if this is the kind of tactic they are using to make customers pay for service they don't use. On 6th February 2014 once again I went to the same shop as one more bill was sent to me. Once again, I put a request to cancel and I had to pay for a service that I didn't use since 8th December 2013. It makes me very angry and sad at the same time because you are giving a very bad publicity to an otherwise good brand name. Please check your complaint ref. No. 402424301 and act on it ASAP. What can I do to make sure my Cataract Surgery is a success? • URIMAX / FLOMAX This medicine tamsulosin is used for enlarged prostate which is a common condition in male patients causing difficulty in passing urine. It also affects the muscles of the iris of the eye and causes a complication called Floppy Iris Syndrome during cataract surgery. It makes the cataract surgery very difficult and increases the risk of complications. If your surgeon knows that you are taking this medicine she can take steps to deal with the problem. So please remember to inform your surgeon if you are taking this medicine or have taken it previously.

• ECOSPRIN / CLOPIDOGREL These medicines used for heart diseases cause a tendency for increased bleeding We will advise you to stop them pre-oper-

atively for 4-7 days. You can start using them again immediately after the operation.

• DIABETES CONTROL Uncontrolled diabetes causes inflammation in the eye and predisposes you to infection. So we insist that your diabetes is well controlled before the surgery. An enjoyable evening with Bellamy Brothers

The long serpentine queues outside Catholic Gymkhana, SantaCruz (W), did not deter the spirit of Country Music fans young and old waiting in line to enter the venue for the much anticipated show of the year with US Country Singers, Bellamy Brothers maiden tour of India after 40 years, which was part of their worldwide tour this year. This ideal venue had a sizeable audiences who gathered together on the tennis courts of the gymkhana on Tuesday 4th February to welcome them in the traditional Cowboy hats and outfits even the girls dressed up for their occasion to show their love for Country music at its best. Celebrity MC Desmond Oliveira from Goa, wearing his traditional cowboyhat charmed the audiences with his rich incredible voice whileintroducing this talented 7 member band. Bellamy Brothers, Howard & David opened up their non-stop act right through the evening by taking us on a nostalgic trip of all their favourite classic country songs, 'Let Your Love Flow', 'More of You','Lovers Live Longer', 'Redneck Girl', 'Cowboy Reggae', 'VerticalLimit' and the ever popular song played during weddings, 'If I saidyou had a beautiful body' had the audiences singing, clapping and dancing to the beats of these popular songs which were earlier heard on AIR, but performing live and in person one had to feel the pulse oftheir songs coming alive. The Bellamy Brothers were more than happy to perform for their fans inMumbai, but they could never imagined they have such a large fan base following for true blue country music here, where their music is appreciated by one and all. Bandra Buzz was the official Media Partner for this event. Organized in aid of Kripa Foundation and brought to India by KCT Entertainment; organizer Dereyk Talker did an excellent event by also having another show for their many country fans in the land of music Goa. We look forward to more enjoyable events in the near future; truly it was an enjoyable evening to remember the Bellamy Brothers contribution to Country Music which lives on in our hearts forever. IN FOCUS

The Voice of the People Tyrell Mendez interviews rapper KARLY who aspires to be “THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE” What is the rudimentary elucidation of rap? Every soul has the prime notion that “rap” is all about girls, money, drinks and indulging in other whimsical fancies. According to me, “rap” is about expressing your emotion out to the multitudes. It is an appreciable form of music, which draws its roots from poetry. What is the “numerouno” aim of your music? Music as defined in KARLY’s lexicon is known as something that should help people. People should get solutions to their manifold problems through the agency of music. Every song is different and people can be rest assured to draw a sanguine perception from each of my rhapsody. Which amongst the globally accomplished rappers do you reckon highly? I like Eminem for his creative excellence and the song

“Lose Yourself” is one of the greatest masterpieces ever orchestrated. My songs will have an erudite message like the songs of this philharmonic giant. Music without a message is void ab initio. I also like Machine Gun Kelly. So how does it feel to have 5000 facebook likes and 50,000 youtube views? I feel ecstatic to have set foot on this milestone. But deep inside the intricacies of my brainbox I feel a bit sad as I have fans all over the globe but I feel like a jar of untapped talent in my very own domain of Bandra. I love to walk around Bandra with earphones plugged in my ears. Even if I become a paparazzi magnet I would still endorse a belief in humility and respect the roots of my inception in Bandra. (www.facebook.com/Karlythevoice) So what is your clear-sighted viewpoint with respect to piracy? Piracy doesn’t vex me. I am not forcing anyone to buy my album. People like posing with pictures of gold or fancy

cars but they do not really own it. The same applies to illegally downloaded music, which you don’t own. It is better to buy the album rather than parade around with a picture of you standing with a Ferrari. I don’t want to sell 1000 copies. Even if I sell 100 copies to people who revere my music I will feel palatial. What are your intellectual accomplishments? I have done my schooling at St.Stanisclaus high school and I am currently pursuing my B.Com degree. They are a lot of time constraints, as I have to manage studies, sports and music. What is your next maneuver with regard to music? I have released my EP on the Internet consisting of 7 songs, which was well received. I am planning to drop 2 albums this year and also shoot some really interesting music videos. My music will be internationally available on the Itunes store. The fact of paramount significance is that everything will be effectuated on professional standards. My music is peppered with a variegation of melodies and of course I want to be “THE VOICE” of the people. Tyrell Mendez

The Charcoal Project at Bandra 190 on Turner Rd

The new one stop shop in town, Mumbai’s take on Selfridges, London and SoHo, New York. Featuring curations from some of India’s renowned talent. There is fashion, interiors and a lot of unusual curated pieces by talented names. To begin with, Sussanne Roshan, Seema Khan, Maheep Kapoor and many more.

A LITTLE INSIGHT ON SUSSANNE ROSHANS FLOOR Specially selected pieces by Nappa Dori, Moon River and her own SR pret brand. There you will get a glimpse of her style, sense of design and a sneak peak of her furniture store ‘THE CHARCOAL PROJECT’ in Andheri. Known for her eclectic style, she excels in giving any modern home a touch of classic design. Always moving with trend in patterns and colors, she is an example of creating trend and style. ‘Spunk Up’ your home with some of her home décor products, affordable, stylish and unique. There are Technicolor side tables, vintage- English photo frames and lamps, trunks, mirror-cages and what not! Thus making their shop a steampunk re imagination of interior décor. We think they rock the socks off of vintage design and art. Nappa Dori, a brand she introduced to Bombay is based out of Delhi and this store is the mother-lode of awesome art. Gautam Sinha (the owner and designer) has effortlessly incorporated the most quirky patterns and prints in his bags and i-pad covers, which are for the urbane population, infused with traditionally hand crafted prints, wefted to perfection. And as if this was not all, his products are moderately priced, thus making sure they don’t rip you off. Indeed at these prices and such quality, we can rate Napa Dori as Sussanne Roshan’s one of the best discoveries so far! Her yet another discovery from Delhi includes

Moon River, which is a massive treat for all the fashion lovers. Radhika Gupta, the owner has an impeccable taste in fashion and has assembled the best of clothes, shoes, perfumes and bags, from across the globe, together at Moon River. We were so exultant after visiting their store at Bandra 190 that we simply cannot wait for their introduction of Abu Jani- Sandeep Khosla Collection, Apartment 9 and Clove Lights.

Sussanne Roshan, who has also designed the Building, Bandra 190, or as she rightly puts it, she ‘charcoaled’ it, says “I highly recommend people to visit Bandra 190. In today’s fast running world, it’s great to find all your essentials under one roof”. So this weekend, come visit Bandra 190 and ignite your experience. Yes, it’s open on Sundays as well. Could it get better? Kajal Multani

EAT OUT

Fresh Rice from the South Mr. Mohan Rao, the dynamic proprietor of an absolutely brand-new concept, biryanibyair.com Could you please explain your concept in brief for our readers? Sure, I felt there is a lot of authentic food being prepared in different corners of our country, and imitations of the same being offered in different cities. The imitation cannot compare with the original for many reasons, and I plan on bringing authentic food from where it originates into various cities where there is a demand for the same. As of now I have started with Hyderabadi biryani, but plan to expand into other cuisines soon. How did you think about this very practical concept? I myself am from Hyderabad and have settled in Pune. In Pune, I have seen and tasted many imitation versions of Hyderabadi biryani, but none can match the originals. I felt in a way the original was being disgraced. One way to rectify the situation would have been to get a chef from Hyderabad, but people have tried this and for some reason it hasn't worked. Then I thought why not fly down the food itself, original, fresh and hot, without any added preservatives? I did a pilot study on a small scale in Pune. It succeeded. I started this business with biryani because biryani is a dish which arrives hot and travels well. Do you have a background in the food industry? No, I am by qualification and work experience a software engineer. This is my first venture in the food business. How old is this concept ? I started in Pune in September 2013, and in Mumbai on January 26th, 2014. Do you get the biryani from only one place in Hyderabad, or are there options available? We get biryani from four different restaurants in Hyderabad. Paradise, Shah Ghouse, Cafe Bahar and Shadab. A day be-

fore the biryani arrives, if the customer is particular, he can choose which biryani he prefers. Is there a difference between the biryani of these four restaurants? Well, Shah Ghouse is a little spicier. Paradise is less spicy and also very well-known in Mumbai. What is the difference between biryani from Hyderabad and Mumbai? In a portion of Hyderabadi biryani, there is one large piece of chicken, and it is slightly on the drier side, unlike Mumbai biryani, which has more gravy. This is why Hyderabadi biryani is served with 'mirchi ka saalan.' The spice slightly varies from restaurant to restaurant, even in Hyderabad. Also, Hyderabadi biryani comes in layers, a layer of rice, gravy and so on. This how it comes professionally packed in boxes from Hyderabad itself. A question with a vested interest. Since I am a vegetarian, are there any options for us veggies? We do get some vegetarian biryani from Paradise restaurant. It tastes very nice, but

haven't seen much demand for it so far. In a business such as this, the logistics are very important. How does your system work? I order a fixed quantity for Mumbai every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Around forty packs on each of these day. Each pack serves two people. For Pune, the biryani comes down only on Sunday. People can order last minute, but it is always better to order in advance so as to be assured of delivery. We deliver in time for dinner, latest by 8.30 pm. Were there any unexpected hitches that cropped up once you commenced operations? There were problems from unexpected quarters. Sometimes, the firewood is damp and the cooking starts late in Hyderabad. We need to get the packed food to the airport by a certain time. But we do have back-up flights, and so far we have delivered. Which areas in Mumbai do you cater to so far? And how big is your team? As of now, we deliver in Bandra, Khar,

Santacruz and Andheri, all west. Two people in Hyderabad, three in Pune and one in Mumbai. Plus of course, delivery boys who work part-time. And what is the next item on your agenda? Food from Kareem's in New Delhi, whose specialities are korma, stew, and so on. What premium do you currently charge? A packet of two portions in Mumbai is priced at Rs. 450, which is reasonable considering air-fare, effort and so on. Do you store left-over biryani for the next day? No, if there is any leftover, we share it with our staff. Also looking at tying-up with an NGO to whom we could provide excess, if any. That's a nice thought. All the best, and would you like to share your contact details with our readers? Thank you, yes. They can contact on 09699512233 or visit biryanybyair.com Cyrus Gonda

A Republic Day Parade by the future citizens of our country in Bandra A minutes silence for our martyrs

After a successful parade in 2013 (on Hill Road) the Schools of Bandra got together once again to celebrate the Republic Day, as desired, this year ... A Bigger & Better 2014 and so it was. 18 schools participated which included 770 student marchers and their bands, 3 army instructors, 54 training teachers along with 70 school cyclists to spread an Eco friendly message. Adding punch and grandeur to this unique parade was the elite Rapid Action Force (RAF) who marched with the children thereby raising the bar. The Army Bagpipe Band from the Nashik Artillery Centre played beautiful music and enthralled the twenty thousand plus strong crowd which also included students, teachers and parents from participating schools all collectively assembled to celebrate the Republic Day. The parade was gracefully presided over by Major General R. R. Nimbhorkar the current 'Chief of Staff' for Maharashtra, Gujarat & Goa Area. After inspecting the student troops he proceeded to receive the salute at the reviewing dais..... what an honour for these children who were filled with pride, after being flagged off by the Addtl. Comm. of Police, Western Region Mr VishwasNangrePatil IPS. His Excellency Mr. Richard Bale - Consul General of Canada was the foreign dignitary invited to witness this event. This was done in keeping with the Rajpath tradition in Delhi. The flag hoisting ceremony held on the lawns of the Central Park combined with a beautiful backdrop of the Arabian Sea was led by the Chief of Staff, the National an-

them was then played by the Army Band. A sharp rifle salute by the RAF was further solemnized by maintaining a special minute of silence, observed by all to honour and remember our fallen martyrs both in the police and the armed forces. A recitation of the Pledge in Hindi was done by Ms Priya Dutt - the local MP, who ended with an appreciation for the Indian Armed Forces. This was followed by a short but inspirational speech by the Chief Guest who even used Marathi to reach out to all the students. The marchers then settled down to watch a few cultural heritage performances done by the students which included the Malkhamb (pole gymnastics), Lezim and Bharat Natayam.... The Artillery Centre Army band from Nashik gave a short but brilliant display of their musical skills on stage. ENVIRONMENT

Wall-E or Robocop? Anyone remember the hugely popular animated flick from some years ago? The story, its makers say came about as a child’s imagination of a world disaster. Simply put, the world’s covered in garbage and humans have left the Earth for an artificial life on an inhospitable planet. Walle turned out to be the last robot still functioning as a waste lifter, crunching garbage into manageable blocks. Now if the child in you could imaginet his happening, you wouldn’t be too far from what’s predicted for this home (planet) of ours. And who didn’t love Robocop? Assembled from different parts of electronic equipment, part machine part human, so me could even say he was recycled into being.

ALMs in Bandra West along with Denzil Rego of HELM have begun the planning for the campaign. Scheduled to begin first with around six to seven schools in Bandra West on the 8th of March 2014, the campaign will then be runing partnership with ALMs willing to lend a helping hand. Collection routes and dates will be planned in conjunction with ALM heads and the work to reduce the harmful effects of improper disposal of hazardous e-waste will begin!

WASTE MANAGEMENT OR RECYCLING?

Let’s do what we can while we can, because you and I know that science fiction may find another planet for us to live on, but we certainly can’t. Sonal Alvares

Between picking up garbage and being made from waste, the two movies touch upon our ‘refuse’ issues very differently and at the same time bring to light what should be plain to see. Key words: should be. Unfortunately as is our wont, we sweep all our rubbish under the carpet: corruption and garbage alike. Out of sight is out of mind. But is it? Rubbish, Waste, Litter, Garbage, Scrap, Rubble, Slop, Matter, call it what you will, we’re filling our world with it. And not only does this junk have nowhere to go, neither do we.

To join the campaign contact Fr. Savio Silveira of GreenLine at Call: 9870410901 E-mail: info@greenline.org.in Website: www.greenline.org.in

Mumbai generates a staggering amount of waste every day! A highly hazardous component of this waste heap comprises of what is termed as ‘e-waste’. E-waste is any electric or electronic object that has been discarded as kachhra. How much you say? Well, the numbers are mindboggling; suffice it to say that there are 10 States that contribute to 70 per cent of the total e-waste generated in the country, Maharashtra ranks first and among the top ten cities generating e-waste, Mumbai ranks first. You need only common sense to understand the implications of such large amounts of e-waste being improperly relegated to our landfills or ‘taken apart’ by informal and unauthorized recyclers. Both of these means of disposal result in the harmful components of such waste being released into our natural environment contaminating air, land and water. And ultimately, jeopardizing human health!

e4E – an e-waste collection and proper disposal campaign: GreenLine, an environmental NGO has begun a campaign called ‘e4E’ which aims to set up an e-waste routine collection route in three suburbs of Mumbai. Starting with Bandra (West), Fr. Savio, Director

of GreenLine says “e4E will help people in Bandra to dispose of their e-waste responsibly” They have tied up with authorized e-waste recyclers, Recyclekaro (www.recyclekaro.com), who will receive the collected e-waste through this timely campaign. Explaining the e4E concept, Fr. Savio says “the aim is to convert e-waste into a conservation tool where proceeds from the e-waste go towards funding an ‘E’nvironmental conservation project, in this case, to protect the endangered species of vultures around Mumbai. Sahyadri Nisarga Mitra (www.snmcpn.org), an NGO working for vulture conservation around the natural habitats of these valuable species will pledge the proceeds to protecting the last few remaining species of these birds. Did you know Mumbai no longer has these impressive birds? The city has completely swallowed up their natural habitat wiping out any signs of their existence. Vultures are an important species in the ecosystem as they provide many valuable servicesin their role as birds of prey.

Bandra West ALMs to participate in e4E campaign: Fr. Savio together with Mrs. Shyama Kulkarni AGNI trustee and coordinator of

WHAT IS CONSIDERED E-WASTE?

Electronic items that are considered to be hazardous include, but are not limited to: Televisions and computer monitors that contain Cathode Ray Tubes LCD desktop monitors Laptop computers with LCD displays LCD televisions Plasma televisions Portable DVD players with LCD screens. In fact, look around your home and try to find one electric/electronic item that is not harmful to us and the environment, if improperly discarded or illegally recycled.

FASHION

On wearing the right dress ... and everything else We have all faced situations where it is the hardest thing to find the right outfit. One option is too over the top and the other one is just not enough. This is where accessories come into play. Accessorizing is definitely one of the most essential parts of styling. Adding even a single additional item to your look can take it to a completely different level of style. If you’re a girl and have a dress that has a little too much shine, you can help tone it down a notch by going for not too bright make up and a basic coloured bag and wearing maybe even studs instead of long and heavy earrings. For instance, in the image below of Hollywood star Victoria Justice, her outfit is the only piece with the shimmer; her hair is mostly tied back with just the right amount in the front, her bag and shoes are minimalistic and her makeup is toned down to the right amount. A 10/10 for sure. If you’re a boy and are in a T-shirt and jeans and need to head out for a formal affair, the easiest thing to do is add a Blazer to it and a statement belt which will definitely help you leave an impression. Guys with V-neck T-shirts and Blazers can never go wrong. Even long ties or bow ties do the trick for casual to semi-formal. In the shown image, Singer Zayn Malik makes the scarf and leather jacket look amazing together. People tend to think that accessorizing is just for the girls, but that is exactly where most boys tend to falter and don’t end up looking their best. Focus on everything that you’ve got on you, not just your clothes. Anjan Sachar
