“I would put about three people on [Mark Andrews]. You can’t just sit there and think you’ve got him figured out. He finds his way open, finds an open area in the defense. He’s relentless in his effort and gives 110 percent every single time he’s on the field. He’s an exceptional player.”
It’s an AFC North primetime showdown when the Ravens (2-2) host the Bengals (2-2) tonight on Sunday Night Football. Cincinnati, which has won two straight, is tied with Baltimore and Cleveland (also 2-2) atop the division standings, with Pittsburgh sitting at 1-3.
The Ravens fell in heartbreaking fashion, 23-20, to Buffalo last Sunday after the Bills scored 20 unanswered points, including a 21-yard gamewinning FG as time expired. Baltimore jumped out to a 20-3 lead late in the second quarter but couldn’t withstand a steady second-half Bills’ comeback in a game that featured driving rain and windy conditions. Buffalo totaled 326 yards of offense, marching 77 yards on its decisive drive after the Ravens were unable to score a TD on fourth-and-goal from the Bills’ 2-yard line with 4:15 remaining in a 20-20 battle. QB Lamar Jackson accounted for 217 yards (144 passing & 73 rushing), throwing 1 TD (1-yard shovel pass) to RB J.K. Dobbins, who also rushed for a 4-yard score. On defense, the Ravens forced 2 turnovers (CB Marlon Humphrey INT & S Marcus Williams FR) and held Bills QB Josh Allen to a season-low 68.4 passer rating.
The Ravens lead the all-time series vs. Cincinnati, 27-25, including a 17-9 mark in Charm City. Under head coach John Harbaugh, the series is tied, 14-14, with the Ravens going 9-5 at M&T Bank Stadium. After sweeping the Bengals in 2019 and 2020, Cincinnati emerged victorious in each 2021 battle.

    numbers to note
1 – Under John Harbaugh (since 2008), the Ravens are 18-2 at home in primetime games, producing the NFL’s best such winning percentage (.900). Baltimore is 7-1 at home on Sunday Night Football under Harbaugh.
20 – Lamar Jackson is 6-1 at home in primetime, accounting for 20 total TDs (15 passing & 5 rushing). He owns a 102.0 passer rating in these games, winning four straight.
10 – Baltimore has recorded an NFL-high (tied, Phi.) 10 takeaways (7 INTs & 3 FRs) in 2022, entering Week 5. This figure puts the Ravens on pace to register 43 takeaways.
4 – New Ravens S Marcus Williams has tallied an NFL-best (tied, Jordan Poyer) 4 takeaways through four games. He has 3 INTs and 1 FR, while CB Marlon Humphrey ties (two players) for third in NFL takeaways with 3 (2 INTs & 1 FR).

In his 15th season leading Baltimore, Coach Harbaugh is the NFL’s thirdlongest tenured head coach, behind only Bill Belichick (23 seasons) and Mike Tomlin (16). Harbaugh has guided the Ravens to 150 total wins since his 2008 arrival, ranking as the league’s fifth most.

on the ravens’ week 5 mindset:
“The NFL – you fight, you compete, it’s an emotional deal, and that’s what makes it so compelling. That’s why we love it and being a part of it and competing. The highs are high, and the lows are low, because it’s such a big challenge to be able to win a game in this league. We’re four games in – basically, the first quarter is over. We’re 2-2, tied for the division lead, and that’s where we stand. So, you take a step back, you look at that, and you understand where you’re at, and we start getting ready for the most important game of the season so far, which will be Sunday Night Football against the Bengals.”

            in an Elite Division
          by Emma Levine

As the 2019 unanimous NFL MVP and a two-time Pro Bowler, Lamar Jackson is no stranger to people mentioning his long list of accolades. Over his first fourplus seasons, Jackson has put up numbers previously unheard of in the history of the National Football League. In 2022, his on-field success continues to be lauded after he was awarded AFC Offensive Player of the Month accolades for his play in September.

There’s more to his game than that, though.
How do you quantify the things about Jackson that can’t be measured?
Now in his fifth year wearing the Purple and Black, Jackson has emerged as a mature and poised leader whose preparation, football IQ and leadership abilities are just as crucial to his success as his atypical athletic aptitude. The value that he brings to the Ravens is undeniable. Also undeniable is the fact that his on-field performance is not just due to his innate physical skill, but much more.

Following one of Jackson’s latest showings of gridiron heroics, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh expressed
just how valuable the quarterback’s skills are as a field general.
“His way is winning football,” Harbaugh stated. “It’s fundamentally sound quarterback play. He’s running the show out there. He’s making the checks. He’s managing the clock. All the things that you would say an operator or a manager does, he’s doing all those things, too.”
Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman echoed those sentiments when discussing Jackson’s heightened involvement in the offense. Whether it is helping design more plays, calling more audibles at the line of scrimmage or just taking on more complicated gameplans, Roman says Jackson’s commitment to leading the offense
has been a driving force behind the Ravens’ dangerous attack.
“He is more vocal,” Roman affirmed during training camp, as the unit worked on its installations. “He’s definitely looking at matchups harder and definitely has more ideas. There’s good collaboration going on there.”
The players feel it, too. Jackson is their natural leader and an irreplaceable presence they are quick to rally around. They recognize they are always in the game when No. 8 is on the field and feel assured knowing that he is leading them into battle.
“He’s just elite, man. Just everything that he does for this program, the way he plays on and off the field, he’s in an ‘elite division,’ for sure,” stated one of Jackson’s favorite targets, tight end Mark Andrews.
As the 2022 season unfolds, it’s a safe bet that Jackson’s skills will continue to grab the sports world’s attention and fuel talk show debates about his superstar abilities, possibly garnering more accolades in the process. But the Ravens know that they can depend on much more than that from their signal caller.
Perhaps Jackson said it best himself.
“I want to win. I just want to win, and by doing that, I’ve just got to do what I do – play Lamar football.”
