Rambam Talmidim Impress Rabbi Rosenzweig
Rabbi Michael Rosensweig, Rosh Yeshiva at RIETS, spent the morning at Rambam, testing the talmidim in Rabbi Ziskindâs advanced Double Bais Medrash Shiur. Talmidim in the shiur had the opportunity to present various sugyos to Rabbi Rosensweig and be questioned by him, testing their proficiency and knowledge. Some of the presenters were Chezky Frieden and Yitzy Laster who analyzed the area of rightful possession of ownership based on precedent âChezkas Mari Kamaâ; Jacob Friedman and Shmuel Teichberg, who discussed the concept of âPossession By Agencyââ âKinyan Chatzeirâ; Elly Marcus and Ben Silverstein presented âHefker and Safek Yiushâ; Hudi Rosenfeld and Yossi Zimilover elucidated on Yiush Shelo Midaasâ; and Yishai Perl and Ben Silverstein (yet again) were the final presenters. Rabbi Rosensweig asked the boys pointed questions and was very im-
pressed with their responses and grasp of the complicated sugyos they presented. After testing the boys for over two hours. Rav Rosensweig spoke to the entire Mesivta. He commended the boys for their maturity, motivation, and commitment to Klal Yisrael. Referring to the model of Yaakov Avinuâwho is referred to both as Yaakov and Yisraelâ he suggested that a Torah Jew has two personas: one as an individual characterized by the name Yaakov and one as a member of the community symbolized by the name Yisrael. Both roles are possible in an individual. He told the boys that as students of Rambam they are being well-trained and prepared in both areas and should continue to grow as involved bnei Torah in their communities in the years ahead. Upon leaving, Rabbi Rosensweig remarked how impressed he was with the level of learning, maturity and middos that he witnessed firsthand.

confident standing on their own two feet. For their part, Dr. and Mrs. Sammy and Denise Fuhrer have literally brought chessed into their home. Mrs. Fuhrerâs mother lives in their home and they care for her with all the dignity and kavod that this beloved matriarch deserves. Dr. Fuhrer has long been the gabbai in his Upper West Side shul; Mrs. Fuhrer helps support the neighborhood of Kedumim in Eretz Israel by hosting numerous fundraisers and by providing chizuk to the mayor of Kedumim, Rafaella Segal. Mazel Tov to Shabse and Tova Fuchs. May they continue to wear the kesser shem tov with grace and dignity. Bnos Bais Yaakov has had the good fortune to be the beneficiaries of the munificence of two renowned patrons in the world of Jewish education: Mr. Jason Cury, President and Chief Executive Officer; and Mr. Joel Beritz, Vice President, of the Caroline and Joseph S. Gruss Life Monument Funds, Inc., and the Center for Initiatives in Jewish Education (CIJE). Over the course of the last several years, they have come to the aid of Bnos Bais Yaakov many times over. Their securing of funds enabled BBY to acquire a state-of-the-art computer lab. Recently, the fund also covered the cost of an upgrade. Through Mr. Cury and Mr. Beritz, CIJE has also provided financing for the first smartboards purchased by the school. CIJE also funded a new, stateof-the-art science lab for grades 1-5. It is fully equipped with microscopes, skeletons, and electrical equipments, as well as lesson plans which promote hands-on learning and problem solving. This year, through Mr. Cury and Mr. Beritz, the Gruss Life Monument Funds came forward with a monumental endowment, matching donations made by the BBY parent body which ensured the endurance of Bnos Bais Yaakov through a difficult transitional period. BBY is deeply indebted to Mr. Cury and Mr. Beritz for their continued support and their commitment to ensuring that Bnos Bais Yaakov remains a thriving institution on the cutting edge of education. For their continuous involvement and dedication to the financial stability and educational superiority of Bnos Bais Yaakov, we are pleased to honor Mr. Jason Cury and Mr. Joel Beritz with the community service award. Please join us at the Sands Atlantic Beach on February 16 as we pay tribute to these revered honorees and to an outstanding educational institution.

âshem tovâ regally and with dignity. So many grateful institutions and so many thankful individuals have thus crowned Shabse and Tova Fuchs. But why? What has this young Five Towns couple done to earn the respect of so many? Shabse is a self-employed businessman who never lets his success in business stand in the way of his real focus. He never misses a minyan or his shiur, and his raison d ĂŞtre is to extend himself for others. Indeed, Shabse has created a life built around gemilas chasadim. But as he is the first to recognize, it is as a member of the Shabse/Tova chessed team that he sees his biggest successes. Tova, who teaches gratis in Beâer Hagolah, has inspired legions of young Russian women. They so adore their morah that they pursue any occasion to spend more time with her. Her talmidos have joined the Fuchs family for Shabbos, for kumzites, and for challah baking. In a most beautiful melding of chinuch for the Fuchs children and their BBY friends, and chessed for the Beâer Hagolah girls, the Fuchses hosted a joint bas mitzvah celebration for the 6th graders of both schools. In the Fuchs home, these girls â raised in vastly different cultures â danced together and enjoyed a beautiful meal. At the conclusion of the event, each girl received her own personalized siddur. For most of the Beâer Hagolah girls, this was the first tashmish kodesh they had ever owned. Another cause that is near and dear to the Fuchsâ heart is that of building batei neeman bâYisrael. Tova has arranged thousands of dates and has successfully concluded dozens of shidduchim. Sometimes, despite her best efforts, a sticking point arises which puts the shidduch on hold. At this point, Shabse, âThe Closer,â steps in. A skilled negotiator, Shabse has gotten many a shidduch deal over apparently insurmountable hurdles. This chessed-oriented couple then decided that the monetary fruits of their labors should be spent on a davar shebâkedusha, so the Fuchses put their shadchanus towards the writing of a sefer Torah which they then donated to their shul. They are currently in the midst of having a fourth shidduch sefer Torah written. Frankly, it is no wonder that Shabse and Tova are such chessed activists. Both Shabseâs and Tovaâs parents have raised their families with chessed as a non-negotiable value. Mr. and Mrs. Berish and Hannah Fuchs, renowned philanthropists, have taken a special interest in the plight of agunos, working tirelessly to release them from their painful constraints, then supporting them emotionally and even financially until they feel
