Mishka & Dominic

High school sweethearts Mishka and Dominic tied the knot in springtime during lockdown. As a result, their wedding was a very intimate affair, with a beautiful church ceremony followed by close family enjoying champagne and wedding cake at home.

How did Dominic propose? “I was five months pregnant at the time. He took me to the beach where we had had our first date, supposedly to take some pregnancy pictures. As this was during lockdown, I wasn’t really keen on being outdoors. And I certainly didn’t expect that he’d propose!”

Mishka waxes lyrical about her wedding day. “It was the first week of spring – the weather was partly cloudy and rather windy. But it’s a day we will treasure in our hearts for a lifetime. It was the most beautiful experience, marrying the person you feel in your heart you are destined to be at the altar with, someone you are ready to spend the rest of your life with, by the grace of God.”

“Enjoy every step of the way, because when you look back it should be something you have no regrets doing!”

The couple was married at St Margaret’s Parish, an Anglican Church in Fish Hoek. “We chose this venue, because there was no better way to have our marriage officiated than in the house of God. The ceremony was absolutely beautiful!”

As they did not have a reception, Mishka and Dominic didn’t have to worry about décor and a theme. “But we ensured that our close relatives who came to our home after attending the ceremony dressed up in a colour scheme of our choice,” Mishka says.

The bride says her dress was very different from what anyone expected. “I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try something I would not usually wear. I loved it! It was the perfect decision.”

If they could change one thing about their wedding day, what would it be? “Nothing at all,” Mishka says emphatically. “The way it panned out was the way it was destined to be.”

The highlight of Mishka’s Big Day? “Finally becoming Dominic’s wife! Standing next to each other as husband and wife felt like home.”

Despite Covid-19 restrictions, they managed to enjoy a magical honeymoon in Zanzibar.

What advice would Mishka give to a brideto-be? “Embrace the moments you’re in. And remember that it’s about you and your husband-to-be. Enjoy every step of the way, because when you look back, it should be something you have no regrets doing!”
