SENIOR SCHOOL: YEARS 10-12

Welcome to life in the Senior School of Ballarat Grammar. Here you’ll find a community of relationships and opportunities just waiting for your engagement.

Working towards more leadership opportunities, engaging in activities initiated and learning to find a healthy balance of activity, diet and rest are all essential ingredients to a successful Grammar education. Most importantly, we know the benefit of service to our wellbeing and all students are encouraged to embrace the opportunities or create their own. Giving of oneself to support those in need is the most powerful life lesson we can give our young people and Grammar students embrace this en masse.

Our VCE offerings are diverse and students are encouraged to plan a sequence of subject selections that appeal to their interests. We know from experience that students who study subjects they enjoy, actually do better than if they study complex subjects that are not for them. Our staff work tirelessly to assist our students to choose a program that they will not only enjoy, but that will create possibilities for life after Senior School. We bring the IDEALS of Round Square to life. Internationalism, Democracy, Environment, Adventure, Leadership and Service are owned and enacted by students in a myriad of ways including exchanges and International conferences, service and cultural trips.

Connection to the House is important in the development of key relationships. Each student belongs to a Homeroom or House mentor group in their year level where their pastoral care is monitored and strengthened. Parents liaise with the Head of House and Mentor (Year 9) or the Pastoral Care Co-ordinator and Homeroom teacher (Years 7 and 8) to ensure not only that students’ academic work is on track, but also that they are managing themselves in an ever-demanding environment.

What stands a Grammar education apart, is the real focus on breadth of opportunities to develop individual strengths. We are a community that promotes engagement and accomplishment by providing chances to thrive by enabling students to find and immerse themselves in their passions.
