also have achieved a good standard in English and Mathematics (Grade C or above) at GCSE.

We offer a wide range of courses at Level 3 (Advanced Level, BTEC National) and Level 2.

We know students progress at different rates and we are always prepared to discuss the right pathway for each individual. We are a very supportive Sixth Form and we never give up on our students.

LEVEL 3 (Advanced Level)

LEVEL 2 (Intermediate Level)

These are two year courses which are modular. At the end of Year 12 the modules lead to AS qualifications which can be used as `stand alone` qualifications. However, most students progress to Year 13 in their advanced courses to complete A2 modules. When combined, AS and A2 modules lead to a full Advanced Level qualification. With these Advanced Level qualifications you can move on to Higher Education. You will be able to study up to four AS courses during year 12. The following year you will be able to study up to three of those through to a full Advanced Level.

These are vocational courses that you would complete in one year. You would usually need to have gained some GCSE’s but no specific grades or subjects. You would be working at GCSE Levels A*-C on these courses. They are suitable for students who have not yet attained 6 or more A*-C grades at GCSE at the end of year 11. Most people progress to advanced courses after completing these programmes. A range of Level 2 and 3 courses are on offer. Specific course details are provided to give you an idea of what each course entails.

We recommend that you have achieved at least 6 GCSE passes at grades C or above. This should include at least a grade B in the subject you wish to study, or a similar subject if you have not studied the subject at GCSE. You should

General Studies

GCSE Courses Students that do not achieve grade C or above in English and/or Mathematics will be expected to resit English and Maths GCSE or equivalent, as they are essential qualifications for entry to most Higher Education courses or employment.

Personalised Qualifications Asdan Level 3 General Studies Coaching Leadership Awards Grades Exam in Music Extended Project

ASDAN Qualification Students studying this course will use the experiences and skills from their Graduate Programme to work towards this qualification. It is a very useful qualification which enables you to show evidence of your skills and responsibilities during your time in the Sixth Form in the form of a portfolio. The level 3 qualification is the equivalent to 70 UCAS points (10 marks from a grade C at A2).

General Studies is a full A Level qualification, delivered in just one year. It is an inter-disciplinary subject, looking at topics across subject boundaries. Many students choose to study this subject in Year 13 in order to obtain further qualifications/points and to secure their chosen Post 18 pathway.

National Citizen Service The National Citizen Service works closely with the Sixth Form to provide our students with the opportunity to become involved in their rewarding programme. You could be one of thousands of young people who take part in the National Citizen Service, gaining valuable skills and experience in leadership, communication and teamwork while performing valuable volunteering work in the local community. *Please note that although we anticipate that most courses will run, occasionally if courses are undersubscribed, we are not able to run them. Balby Carr is a fantastic place for learning and has a great range of courses on offer. The transition from Year 11 to Sixth Form was easy due to the advice, support and guidance provided.

Balby Academy of Sport has given me so many opportunities and experiences that I would never have been given elsewhere. Choosing to study here was one of the best decisions I have made. I have made some fantastic friendships that will last a life time.

The hard work and dedication from all members of staff didn’t just help me pursue my ambitions but also shaped me as a person. The substantial effort and advice that was given freely was fundamentally important in the transition from Grace Sixth Form to Thomas University.

Balby Academy of Sport gave me the best start to my future. I have just started my degree course at Sheffield University, and I don’t think I would have got there without the support, encouragement and guidance from all the Staff at Balby Jasmine Wright Former Student Carr. The staff are fantastic role models Sheffield Hallam and because of their passion and University enthusiasm for sport I am now training to become a PE teacher.

Balby Carr Sixth Form played a massive role in helping me achieve the exam results that I got and a place in the University that I desperately wanted to go to. Without all of the help and support from the Sixth Form team, I would have found it extremely difficult to apply for University.

Through Balby Carr I was allowed to expand my success not only on the soccer field but also in education. I was able to increase my depth of knowledge when it came to studying my A levels, the smaller class sizes made the teaching feel personal and supportive, and from this I learned considerably more.

The support I received during the Sixth Form was phenomenal. Staff always went out of their way to help students reach their potential and improve even further, such as additional lessons after school. Without their constant enthusiasm in lessons, I doubt I would be at University today.

Balby Carr is a great place to go. I was able to get the results I needed to get into my first choice University which was down to the hard work of the staff and great facilities. The support I received was amazing when deadlines needed to be met or a personal statement needed writing.

The support I received from Balby Carr was incredible. The staff were always on hand to help and if ever I had a problem or a worry there was always someone there to talk to. Without the support and guidance given I would not be in the position I am today. I will forever be grateful for what Balby Carr has helped me achieve.

The support I received from the Sixth Form was amazing. Staff put their time and effort in to support me with my Post 18 options, providing the advice and guidance to get me where I am today. The staff are not just teachers or managers, they are also long term colleagues.
