We can make it!

MY TRUTH
We’re coming up on some hard times, again!
Actually, we’re facing more of the same old same old stuff, but packaged differently.
They say tough times don’t last forever, but they sure have a way of resurfacing.
That’s nothing new to us. We have to get ourselves together so these times come and go and we make it through without too much collateral damage.
Thanks to those who work to keep your families strong and together. I know it’s not easy. Every family has its challenging moments and members;
those who have to be uplifted and those who are constantly bearing the brunt of any, and all emergencies, tragedies; and circumstances; as well as those who seem to never be able to get it together, not realizing that the one who appears to have it all together needs support.
Families are so important, especially those bound together by blood, but also those whose relationships are built on love.
Faith — Having faith will help you conquer fear and foolishness! We can’t give up on one another. Sharing your stories, hearing from our elders and listening to our youth will keep the family

Booker ignites
Hope for Action
By April Ryan NNPA
After answering questions, reading, and more; for 25 hours and 4 minutes, New Jersey Democratic Senator Corey Booker shattered a floor speech record held by segregationist Republican South Carolina Senator Strom Thurman in 1957.
Thurman spoke on the Senate floor for 24 hours and 18 minutes against civil rights legislation. Booker’s Senate floor takeover di-

rectly focused on Trump and MAGA agenda items that are hurting Americans. Booker decided to make this drastic move after hearing the challenges from his constituents in his community. He acknowledged,
“We could do some small measure of something.”
Democrats have been struggling to find a way to drive the narrative since January 20, when Donald Trump took the oath of office as President of the United States. Booker offered, “And so I’m hoping this will serve as one of many ignition points for people to think about what we can do to create a movement to stop Donald Trump.

“This is what democracy looks like,” chanted Laura Belin, as she marched with thousands through the streets of Dallas on Sunday in the Mega March
for immigration reform, unity, and the American Dream. “Immigrants make our country stronger, and I know there are people who feel they are at risk of coming out here, and I came out to stand for their rights!”

The Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce is on high alert as we monitor bills that could devastate Black and other minority-owned businesses, along with entire communities, if passed in September 2025. These bills don’t just threaten livelihoods— they threaten dreams, opportunities, and economic progress. Through relentless advocacy, we are bringing these hidden dangers to light, rallying for civic engagement, and fighting to stop laws that could cripple our city, state, and nation. We refuse to let these policies slip through the cracks!

Black Press and Black Church Unity Targeting TARGET

OUR VOICES
For over 198 years the Black Press and the Black Church have joined together for causes of freedom, justice, equality, equity, and empowerment.
Today more than ever before there is renewed urgency for the Black Church and the Black Press to publicly amplify our mutual interests to protect and maintain the hardfought gains and progress that has been accomplished by African Americans in the last two centuries.
On the record, “We are not going back in America and nowhere else in the world in 2025.”
We have already suffered too much from the vicious unprecedented genocide, terrorism, and crimes against humanity during the Transatlantic Slave Trade, global imperialism, racism, colonialism, neocolonialism, reconstruction and Jim Crow, mass incarceration, and present day repressive policies and Executives Orders in an attempt to erase our history and legacy with libelous actions and falsehoods.

with historic and contemporary inspiration and power. Together we are resolutely demanding respect from Target and those companies that make billions of dollars from our consumership.
We are not begging. We are demanding respect and an equitable business relationship with Target and corporate America.
From executive decision makers to marketing and promotions account managers, to Human Resources directors, and to the shareholders of the companies, we demand economic restoration and respect.
We salute the bold leadership of The Reverend Jamal Harrison Bryant and the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta and other Black Church leaders across the nation who are standing up and preaching liberation theology.
TARGET will continue to be our target. We in the Black Press of America will continue our public education and selective buying campaign.
No respect, no buying. No justice, no peace.
May God continue to bless the Black Church and the Black Press.
Mega March focuses on Immigration Reform,
Unity
LULAC and Community Leader Domingo Garcia, State Senator Royce West, and US Congressman Al Green (TX), led the march that ended in a rally at Dallas City Hall.
Some marchers carried giant US and Mexican flags. Others held signs that read, “No human being is illegal” and “Immigrants are among the best of us.” Wendy Fenn and her husband Doug were there. They feel the Trump administration is hurting our country. “I am appalled by what’s going on in our nation,” said Wendy. “I am worried about our freedoms being taken away. I want to do all I can to combat that.”
Organizers say 15,000 people attended the march, fewer than in past marches. They blame the lower number of attendees on fears Immigration officers would show up.

At the rally, Cecilia Vargas rested her hand on a sign that read, “This is our home.”
Vargas fears for her 29-year-old daughter, Grace, a DACA Dreamer; an undocumented immigrant who came into the US as a child and is eligible for temporary protection from deportation and work authorization through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, also known as DACA.
Tears fall down Grace’s cheeks as she tells Texas Metro News about the fear she lives with every day. Her mother brought her to the US illegally when she was five. Now, she’s afraid that President DonaldTrump will end DACA. “I try to be strong, but I am so scared. My mother told me everything would be fine. But I worry all the time.’

Former Dallas CIty Councilman and Texas State Legislator Domingo Garcia led the chants, “Si se puede, yes we can,” as he told the crowd at Dallas City Hall that immigration reform is needed and that he will work with Democrats and Republicans to get the job done. “Let’s free
America again,” said Garcia.
People of all backgrounds and ages united on Sunday to make their point. Organizers say this is not the last march that will happen in Dallas.
Laura Belin carried a sign that read “Love thy Neighbor.” She left the march and rally feeling satisfied that she had done her part for Americans fighting for fairness and freedom. “Protests are important. They remind us that we are not alone. When you get out, you are reminded how powerful people are.”

DOGE Texas passed by Texas Senate
By Rita Cook Correspondent
Texas Metro News
AUSTIN – Last week a bipartisan Senate Bill passed with a nod toward improving government efficiency in Texas.
SB 14 called “Texas DOGE – Improving Government Efficiency,” was put forward by Weatherford’s Republican State Senator Phil King.
Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick said “The Texas economy is the envy of America and the world. Texans understand that by cutting red tape, more money stays in the pocket of taxpayers. When Texans save money, the private sector is unleashed, Texans start small businesses, jobs are created, and our economy grows.
Patrick said he personally prioritized this bill because, “President Trump’s creation of the “Department of Government

Efficiency” inspired me to find ways Texas can save taxpayers and businesses money by cutting burdensome regulations.
The Texas Miracle will continue long into the 21st century because our common sense, conservative approach to regulation will keep Texans prosperous and our economy strong.”
SB 14 establishes Texas’ own Regulatory Efficiency Office.
If this bill passes into law the governor’s office would then be tasked to create a Regulatory Efficiency Office. Alongside that creation would also be an advisory panel to oversee regulatory reform.
Inside that office, Texans could then expect staff to identify and eliminate any unnecessary rules, while also improving the rulemaking process, and increasing public access to regulatory information. The advisory panel would also be expected to direct on ways to improve the efficiency
of state agencies’ regulatory processes and to identify unnecessary or ineffective regulations, according to a media release from Patrick’s office.
The bill will now head to the House where it will be heard by the House Committee on Delivery of Government Efficiency, which met for the first time on March 5. At that time this committee focused on topics as diverse as the newly formed Space Commission, the Sunset Advisory Commission and the states IT department.
If the bill passes out of committee, it will then be debated on the House floor before a final vote.

Whose Truth and Whose Sanity?

QUIT PLAYIN’
I hate to interrupt your scheduled program, but you need to change whatever you watch on the weekends.
Your President has a past and pattern that you need to adjust to.
As he did as 45, 47 loves to dump his trash on the White House lawn on Friday nights and it rarely gets picked up.
Trump knew last weekend that you were too busy watching a two-year-old TikTok story on Minister Marvin Sapp to see him order his ushers to close another door on “your” history.
At the same time, you were fixated on some bullsh!t, Donald Trump was on some “gangsta” sh!t!
This latest executive order was pointed right at you, and you pointed your fingers at Minister Marvin.
Donald J. Pimp signed an order titled, “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History.” In other words, this lyin’ Maryland Farmer wants you to subscribe to his truth in deference to your own story.
I won’t paraphrase the feces-laden paragraphs. They carry

enough sensationalism and theatre of their own. So, let’s get it started.
“Section 1. Purpose and Policy. Over the past decade, Americans have witnessed a concerted and widespread effort to rewrite our Nation’s history, replacing objective facts with a distorted narrative driven by ideology rather than truth.
This revisionist movement seeks to undermine the remarkable achievements of the United States by casting its founding principles and historical milestones in a negative light.
Under this historical revision, our Nation’s unparalleled legacy of advancing liberty, individual rights, and human happiness is reconstructed as inherently rac-
ist, sexist, oppressive, or otherwise irredeemably flawed.”
Sec. 2. Saving Our Smithsonian.
(a) The Vice President, in consultation with the Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy and the Special Assistant to the President and Senior Associate Staff Secretary, Lindsey Halligan, Esq., shall work to effectuate the policies of this order through his role on the Smithsonian Board of Regents with respect to the Smithsonian Institution and its museums, education and research centers, and the National Zoo, including by seeking to remove improper ideology from such properties, and shall recommend to the President any additional actions necessary to fully effectuate such policies.
Sec. 4. Restoring Truth in
American History.
(i) determine whether, since January 1, 2020, public monuments, memorials, statues, markers, or similar properties within the Department of the Interior’s jurisdiction have been removed or changed to perpetuate a false reconstruction of American history, inappropriately minimize the value of certain historical events or figures, or include any other improper partisan ideology;
(ii) take action to reinstate the pre-existing monuments, memorials, statues, markers, or similar properties, as appropriate and consistent with 43 U.S.C. 1451 et seq., 54 U.S.C. 100101 et seq.,and other applicable law.
Trump and his imps have conspired to kill DEI, WOKE, and any other evidence that would make one conclude that Black Lives Matter.
Y’all are worried about Marvin Sapp, but Trump knows that we “Never Would Have Made It” this far without knowing our history. This order is an assault on you, your great-great-grandmama, and your future children, too. We need to restore truth and sanity on our terms.
You’re gonna pay so do you pay attention or do you pay the piper?

OUR VOICES
Maybe it’s because my teacher mother and my soldier father often stopped us in our tracks with “PAY ATTENTION!” that I spend so much time doing just that. Regrettably - it seems - too many of us in Black America are freewheeling, free-styling, coasting or driving with eyes closed while those bent on our obliteration are
laser-focused on their mission. They are DEFINITELY paying attention.
Since DEI has joined CRT, BLM and “woke” on the scrap heap of terms racists have decided could possibly/conceivably/accidentally lead to an America that treats Black CITIZENS fairly, we are caught in a maelstrom of diversions that - together - keep us from PAYING ATTENTION to what’s really going on.
ERASURE. That’s what’s going on. Removing any evidence of our being here is the goal. Cut off economic lifeblood. Cut off political
leverage. Cut out cultural contributions. Cut off access to education, healthcare and JUSTICE. Need examples? The “president” has declared that the Smithsonian Museum of African American Life and Culture is DIVISIVE and is guilty of portraying an unAmerican display of life in this country. While that may seem insignificant to some of the old “why don’t y’all just get over it” game. This timeworn ploy is designed to have Black America accept that the impact of hundreds of years of racist discrimination have no bearing on the ongoing and uniquely race-
based challenges evident in Black communities nationwide. Lynchings? Didn’t happen. Worked sunup to sundown? Good for your health. Redlined? Wasn’t the neighborhood for you. Land stolen? Wasn’t yours anyway… The tricks being played and the traps being laid are too many to catalog in a single facebook post. One thing is certain though - YOU’D BETTER PAY ATTENTION!*

Honoring My Aunt Lois This Month And Forever

James B. Ewers Jr. Ed. D.
OUR VOICES
During my childhood growing up in Winston-Salem NC, my Aunt Lois was always in my life. She and my Uncle Willie provided me with the love and oversight that I needed. They gave me some much-needed HT (home training) lessons, too.
Mrs. Lois Thacker was my mom’s sister, and they were close in age. My aunt was a kind and gentle soul. She was a devout Christian who when she spoke, you listened.
I took my aunt, Mrs. Lois Thacker for granted, mainly because I had my mom. At the time, she was simply a beloved relative. That changed when I was fifteen years of age.
My mom, Mrs. Mildred Ewers passed away. That happened many years ago as I am now a seasoned citizen. My Aunt Lois assumed the role of being a mother to me. It was without her telling me. She just did it.
During that pivotal period in my life, she gave me the emotional support that I needed. Her keeping me on track kept me grounded and secure.
I carry her memory with me every day. Making sure that my dad and me had home cooked meals, coming to my college graduation and ensuring that I had a Christian upbringing are just a few examples of how she cared and loved me.
My Aunt Lois never sought the spotlight, yet she was a bright light of hope for me. As the song lyrics go, “never would have made it” without her. She was modest, never drawing attention to herself and how raising me

If Texas HB 3187 is passed, it could have several negative effects, particularly on public transportation and local economies. Here are the key concerns:
1. Reduced Public Transit Funding
• The bill diverts 25% of sales tax revenue from DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) to non-transit infrastructure projects, cutting funding for buses, trains, and other transit services
• This could lead to service reductions, longer wait times, and fewer transit options for riders.
2. Weakened Transit Infrastructure
• Public transit expansion and maintenance could be delayed due to fewer funds, making it harder to improve or expand rail and bus lines.
• Critical upgrades or expansions to transit systems may be postponed or canceled altogether.
3. Negative Economic Impact
was affecting her own life.
We hear the phrase focusing on my mental health a great deal these days. There are medications and therapies that people use to improve their well-being.
My Aunt Lois being in my life each day was my medication and my therapy. She kept me in a positive state of mind by her words and her actions. As a result, I was always in the light and never in the darkness.
I watch what is transpiring with teens today and their ability to cope with everyday life. My experiences with life-changing circumstances were remedied by a life-changing person. My Aunt Lois was a difference-maker in my life.
She remained in that mother role until her passing in the 1990’s. Her continued uplift and encouragement gave me unspoken comfort and confidence.
When you lose a parent to
ing, causing service reductions for remaining cities.
• Businesses and workers rely on transit; a weakened system could make commuting more difficult, leading to lower job access and economic slowdown in urban areas.
• Potential job losses in the public transit sector due to funding cuts.
4. Increased Traffic Congestion & Pollution
• With fewer public transit options, more people may turn to cars, increasing traffic congestion and worsening air pollution.
• Roads may become more crowded, leading to longer commutes and higher transportation costs for individuals.
5. Unstable Transit Funding Model
• The bill allows cities to hold exit referendums every three years instead of every six, making transit authorities like DART vulnerable to instability.
• A city withdrawing from the system could further shrink fund-
death at a tender age, your sensibilities and security are shaken. You are not sure about life and your place in it.
That is why having my Aunt Lois step in to be my love provider and protector were so important. Of course, my dad was there yet my aunt gave me the tenderness and sensitivity that I needed.
We recently celebrated Women’s History Month. Women in all walks of life were honored and celebrated for their contributions to the world order. Women’s History Month had its origins as a national celebration in 1981 according to reports.
You will not find my aunt’s name in history books or on any websites. She is not listed in any Who’s Who publications.
However, my Aunt Lois gave me the perseverance and tenacity to succeed. She made me believe even when at times I didn’t believe.
I think about her each day and hope that she is pleased with who, and what I have become. Her tutelage and patience have been building blocks in my life.
All of us have looked over our lives from time to time. We have had both ups and downs. Our days have been made brighter and our nights clearer because of the people that we have had in them.
You are blessed when you have been given a blessing. My Aunt Lois was a blessing to me. She made my past joyful and my future possible.
This column is dedicated to my aunt, Mrs. Mary Lois Thacker.

6. Potential Legal and Financial Challenges
• Changing tax allocations could create contractual and bond repayment issues, impacting DART’s ability to take on future projects.
• Future financial uncertainty could reduce investor confidence in Texas transit bonds.
In summary, HB 3187 could significantly weaken Texas’s public transportation system, harming commuters, businesses, and economic growth.
HB167
A bill relating to the implementation of diversity, equality and inclusion initiatives and certain prohibited consecrations in contracting by government entities.
• Proposed By: Rep. Carl Tepper (R - 84)
Texas House Bill 167 (HB 167) could have various negative effects if passed, depending on its specific provisions. While I would need more details on the bill’s ex-
act text, potential concerns based on common legislative impacts include:
1. Economic and Business Impact
• If the bill imposes stricter regulations or restrictions on certain industries, it could discourage business growth or investment in Texas.
• Small businesses might face increased costs or compliance burdens, leading to closures or layoffs.
2. Social and Community Consequences
• If the bill affects marginalized communities (e.g., limiting access to services, education, or employment), it could increase inequality.
• It may disproportionately impact minority-owned businesses or lower-income individuals if it includes restrictive economic policies.
3. Legal and Constitutional Challenges
• Depending on the bill’s scope, it could face legal challenges for violating constitutional rights or federal laws.
• Unclear or vague language in the bill could lead to confusion and costly legal battles.
4. Public Services and Infrastructure
• If the bill cuts funding for social programs, healthcare, or education, it could negatively affect Texas residents, especially vulnerable populations.
• Reductions in public services could strain local governments and nonprofits, forcing them to fill the gaps.

Killing the MBDA Won’t Just Cripple Black Businesses—It’ll
Weaken
America
“We must also provide an expanded opportunity to participate in the free enterprise system at all levels--not only to share the economic benefits of the free enterprise system more broadly, but also to encourage pride, dignity, and a sense of independence. In order to do this, we need to remove commercial obstacles which have too often stood in the way of minority group members--obstacles such as the unavailability of credit, insurance, and technical assistance. Involvement in business has always been a major route toward participation in the mainstream of American life. Our aim is to open that route to potentially successful persons who have not had access to it before.”
– President Richard M. Nixon

TO BE EQUAL
The Trump administration’s efforts to rewrite American history under the guise of fighting a mythical “anti-white” racism took a dangerous turn this week as the White House issued an executive order effectively gutting the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA).
Since President Nixon established it over 50 years ago, the MBDA has provided government financing and contracting opportunities that have fueled the growth of minority-owned businesses and strengthened our communities.
The National Urban League waged a decade-long fight to elevate the MBDA to a statutory agency because its role in driving economic equity and closing the racial wealth gap is irreplaceable. In fiscal year 2023 alone, the agency facilitated $1.2 billion in capital, secured $1.6 billion in contracts, and generated or saved more than 14,000 jobs.
Dismantling the MBDA is the latest example of right-wing extremists rolling back hard-won civil rights victories that have helped level the economic playing field. Under the pretense of race neutrality, they are actively working to erase policies that acknowledge and address systemic disparities.
In March 2024, a federal judge in Texas appointed by Donald Trump, ruled in favor of a lawsuit brought by white entrepreneurs, arguing
that the MBDA’s mission of supporting minority business owners amounted to unconstitutional racial discrimination. While the judge acknowledged that racial minorities face greater challenges in accessing capital—including lower loan approval rates, smaller funding amounts, and higher interest rates—his astonishing ruling was that there was insufficient evidence that government policies contributed to these disparities.
This ruling, coupled with the administration’s actions, threatens to undo decades of economic progress. Eliminating race-conscious programs under the false premise of equality ignores the stark realities of systemic discrimination and denies communities of color access to resources essential for closing the racial wealth gap.
The administration’s decision is not just unlawful and unjust—it is an economic disaster in the making. Minority-owned businesses contribute trillions to the U.S. economy and employ millions of workers. Stripping them of vital federal support will stifle job creation, weaken local economies, and widen the wealth divide.
At a time when economic inequality remains one of the nation’s most pressing challenges, the federal government should be expanding opportunities for underserved businesses, not eliminating them. This is not just a policy fight—it is a battle for economic justice, and we cannot afford to lose.
Trump’s Executive Order Series
How effective has the Department of Education been since it was created in 1979?
By Rita Cook Correspondent Texas Metro News
It is official, Pres. Donald Trump signed an Executive Order last week to begin eliminating the Federal Department of Education (DOE).
Signed under the heading of “Returning Education to Parents and Communities” Trump’s order outlined “take all necessary steps to facilitate the closure of the Department of Education and return education authority to the States, while continuing to ensure the effective and uninterrupted delivery of services, programs, and benefits on which Americans rely.”
The next question is exactly how that tall order is going to be realized?
Trump also included, “The Order also directs that programs or activities receiving any remaining Department of Education funds will not advance DEI or gender ideology.”
In the order his wording included “dismantling bureaucracy and empowering families” citing the Federal government control of education has failed students, parents, and teachers.
Not everyone who has heard Trump’s words agree though.
The National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial said in a press release, “The National Urban League vehemently condemns President Trump’s reckless and dangerous executive order to dismantle the U.S. DOE --- an institution that has played a critical role in upholding America’s promise of equal educational opportunity for all. This shortsighted and politically motivated action is an outright attack on the fundamental rights of America’s students—particularly Black, Brown, students with disabili-
ties, and low-income children— who rely on federal protections to ensure they receive a quality education.”
On the other side of the aisle many Americans have taken to social media and reminded the Department of Education was not even created until 1979. I heard some point out that they were educated prior to that date and seemed to be more educated than the current stream of students being educated after the department’s creation.
Both the executive order and those speaking for the dismantling reminded, “The Department of Education, which does not directly educate students, has spent over $3 trillion without improving student achievement as measured by standardized National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) scores.”
If these numbers are correct, it has been outlined federal taxpayers spent around $200 billion in additional education funding during COVID-19, which, given the substantial learning loss that resulted, typifies the ineffectiveness of the current federally driven model.”
It was also pointed out mathematics and reading scores are down in public schools, despite per-pupil spending having increased by more than 245% since the 1970s.
Apparently, the White House research indicates that 13-yearolds’ mathematics scores are the lowest they have been in decades, 13-year-olds’ reading scores are the lowest since testing began over 30 years ago, low-performing students are falling further behind and in 2023, 13 Baltimore, Maryland, high schools had zero students who tested proficient in mathematics.
The executive order also indicated the following:
The Department of Education burdens schools with regulations and paperwork.
Its “Dear Colleague” letters have forced schools to redirect resources toward complying with ideological initiatives, which diverts staff time and attention away from schools’ primary role of teaching.
Biden’s Department of Education added rules that imposed nearly $3.9 billion in costs and 4,239,530 paperwork hours.
Taxpayers will no longer be burdened with tens of billions of dollars wasted on progressive social experiments and obsolete programs.
Under the Biden Administration, the Department of Education wasted more than $1 billion in grants focused on entrenching radical ideologies in education.
Biden’s Department of Education rewrote Title IX rules to expand the definition of “sex” discrimination to include “gender identity.”
The Trump Administration recently canceled $226 million in grants under the Comprehensive Centers Program that forced radical agendas onto states and systems, including race-based discrimination and gender identity ideology.
Morial said however “Beyond its role in K-12 and higher education, the Department of Education has been pivotal in implementing student debt relief at a time when millions of Americans are drowning under the weight of educational loans. In recent years, the agency has provided life-changing financial relief to countless borrowers, helping to ease the economic burden that disproportionately impacts communities of color. Instead of offering real solutions

Charles Edwin Price remembered
Charles Edwin Price was born on Sunday, October 4, 1936, in the Piney Woods of Winona, Texas to Jessie Lee Price and Mahalie Travis Marshall. He attended the local schools and graduated from Winona High School in 1956.
Charles joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church at an early age, and Reverend J. J. Johnson baptized him. This act of faith marked the beginning of his lifelong sojourn with Jesus Christ.
Charles was drafted into the United States Army in 1959 and served this country faithfully for four years—two years active service and two years in the Army Reserves. For the rest of his life, he held fond memories of his service in Germany.
Soon after returning to Texas, Charles settled in Fort Worth and began his career at the Kimbell Mills Grain Company. He worked for Menasco Manufacturing, a government contractor, for 28 years and retired as a Magnetic Inspector.
Charles met Patricia in 1986 at the historic New Hope Baptist Church, where her son, the Reverend Victor T. Hall, Sr., served as Pastor. The two were wed in the Pastor’s study in the presence of family and friends on Friday, July 22, 1988. They spent their lives spreading their love to a new blended family with seven adult children, and they did it well.
By every account, Charles Price

was a man’s man, as evidenced by his athleticism and fiercely competitive nature. Charles was a star player on a Senior baseball team in Desoto.
He was an avid golfer and could find the bottom of a basketball net at will. He remained active in a daily exercise regimen until his health began to fail a few years ago. He was a proud active member of Concord Church where he served the Usher’s ministry among several others.
Charles Price loved his wife, his children, and his family. He doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with patience, gentleness, and abiding love. His face lit brightly each time they entered the room. In Charles’s presence, everyone knew authentic warmth and love.
Charles is survived by his beautiful bride and constant companion of 37 years, Patricia, and their children, Felecia Parker, Linda Brooks, Terri Price, Vincent Hall, Rev. Victor T. Hall (Marvlieu), Gina Hall-Green, and Wendall Rogers (Tonja) and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.

Don’t send your child out there to handle adult business because they are not ready, and then you’ll have to jump in. And sad to say, some adults aren’t ready and will end up looking like a fool in front of their children.
Don’t let others control your narrative. Please be in control.

Transgender Day of Visibility recognized at City Hall
clared March 31 as International Transgender Day of Visibility, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the contributions and struggles of the transgender community.
“The message is clear: Trans people are here, they belong, and we will always stand beside them,” Bazaldua said.
As part of the event, four speakers took the stage to share their personal experiences and highlight the significance of TDOV in the ongoing fight for transgender rights. Among them were Míchél Macklin, Tawn McGar, and Leslie McMurray, each offering unique perspectives on visibility, resilience, and advocacy.
Tawn McGar, a Black trans man with extensive experience in case management and community engagement, spoke about the ongoing struggle for equality.
“It shows that we’re not going anywhere. We’re here, we’re in your face, and we just need to exist and navigate through life like everyone else. The fight is nothing new, and that’s why they come after us so much, because we’ve been fighting, we’re strong, and we’re loud when we’re here,” McGar said, making it clear that transgender individuals deserve to be seen and valued, not erased.
Míchél Macklin, an Afro-Latina DMV native and former co-host and producer of All4One, underscored the vital role of allies in strengthening the transgender community.
“The visibility of our allies strengthens us. It reinforces our humanity, our faith, and our resilience. So today, I ask you

to stand with us so that those who seek to erase us may know that we will not be fear-mongered into obscurity. We will not shrink, we will not be silent, and we will not back down.”
Macklin later reflected on how her visibility has evolved. Initially, she saw it as a safety tool for herself; now, she views it as a means of protection for those who cannot advocate for themselves.
“Knowing now that we can be safe to be visible is powerful,” she added.
Leslie McMurray, a transgender education and advocacy associate at the Resource Center, acknowledged the significance of TDOV but noted that this year’s observance felt different. She honored Zoe Zephyr, the first transgender woman to serve in a state legislature, and reflected on the loss of Gilbert Baker, a former U.S. military officer and creator of the iconic rainbow flag.
“I’ve cried my eyes out
at our annual Transgender Day of Remembrance, where we honor those who have been cruelly and violently taken from us,” McMurray said. “Today is different. Transgender Day of Visibility is supposed to be a day to honor the accomplishments and contributions of transgender and gender-nonconforming people while raising awareness of the struggles we face. However, this year, the day feels a little less celebratory. I feel less safe now than I ever have.”
She also didn’t hold back in criticizing those she believes contribute to the challenges faced by the transgender community, including high-profile figures such as Elon Musk.
“We don’t need the world’s richest man blaming us for his car being set on fire.”
Despite the struggles, McMurray stressed that at the end of the day, transgender and gender-non-
cont. from page 2

conforming people are no different from anyone else. They experience the same aspects of life, from love, family, aspirations, and the desire to thrive. She also humorously pointed out shared frustrations, such as the rising cost of homeowners’ insurance.
“Our homeowners’ insurance has doubled in the last four years. Yet our struggles are different.”
McMurray highlighted the unjust scrutiny the transgender community continues to face. She recalled traveling to Austin to speak with state representatives about a hate group that had stationed itself outside Capitol bathrooms, harassing and photographing transgender people as they attempted to use public restrooms.
“But being transgender, I’m also part of a community that has been unfairly and wrongly demonized. We are not the monster under the bed.”
Also present were Me-
gan Sykes and Leiah Hutchings, the LGBTQ+ liaisons for the Dallas Police Department (DPD), advocating for inclusivity and safety. They used the event to highlight DPD’s partnership with local businesses to establish Safe Place Programs.
These programs protect individuals from hate crimes and bullying, providing a safe space for victims until police arrive. Businesses that participate display a rainbow-colored police badge at their entrance, signaling a welcoming, secure environment.
With a clear duty to serve through spirits with open minds and hearts, the Dallas Police Department is sending a clear message: Hate has no home in our city.” Megan Sykes emphasized
She also urged Dallas residents to stay united, adding: “Dallas, stay strong, we are all in this together.
At the event’s closing, Bazaldua announced that several locations in Dallas—including Reunion Tower, Bank of America Plaza, and PNC Plaza— would be illuminated in pink, green, and white to honor TDOV. While he celebrated those who stood in support, he also expressed disappointment in those who remained silent.
Despite these shared human experiences, they all reminded the audience that the transgender community continues to face unique and often harmful challenges. Across the country, rallies were held in solidarity, reinforcing the national movement for transgender visibility and rights from Minnesota to Pennsylvania. The event in Dallas served as a powerful reminder that the transgender community remains steadfast in its pursuit of equality and recognition.
“Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections” Executive Order

Rita Cook
COOKin-DC
Last week President Trump signed an executive order to help to secure Federal elections to assure only verified US citizens are allowed to vote in our elections. The order is also to ensure all votes are received by election day.
Executive Order #14248 has seen some push back with commentary stating it threatens to undermine America’s elections.
Some have even called it racist
The executive order is laid out as “preserving and protecting the integrity of American Elections.”
The order’s overall tone is to confirm everyone who is voting in an election in the United States shows up at the polls with some form of government ID. Seems like an easy one. I have never showed up to vote and not been asked for my ID and I have always had it.
There are certain states that might have a different set of rules, my friend in New York was told he did not have to show his ID when he voted in the November election. He ask why he didn’t need to show it and they would not answer him.
The order is also about confirming everyone’s vote is accounted for by Election Day. What does that mean, no mean hanging around for days waiting for the results of an election that not long ago was called on election night. For the mail-in ballot voter it means your vote must be received, not just postmarked by Election Day.
This is important because no matter the side of the aisle you are currently sitting on, voter confidence as of late has completely dropped. Many are saying this executive order will bring back some of that list confidence.
This executive order is supported by a bill known as the Safeguard America Voter Eligibility Act or SAVE Act. What is astounding to me is it has been introduced into Congress for a second time now since it failed to pass on the first attempt due to Democrat pushback.
I wasn’t sure of the reason why Democrats did not want voter integrity to be at the forefront, but it was explained to me by a minority man. He said the argument is because the blue has decided a voter ID requirement is racist. He said he disagreed with this argument and took offense to the fact that Democrats believe minorities are more likely not to be able to obtain an ID due to the cost, the time that it takes to get proper identification and not having reliable transportation that it takes to get to the offices like the DMV.
“I don’t know about you, but I think if you are telling an entire group of people they are too poor or too stupid to simply get an ID that is kind of…,” he said on a social media post.
He also pointed out in the November election only two of the 20 jurisdictions that Democrats won required voter ID. He said even so, in these same states you need an ID to go fishing, drive a car, buy alcohol/tobacco, and get a job.
Others say what is really confusing about the Democrats voting this down is that it seems to be one of the most agreed on political issue across the country. There is a poll that shows 80% of voters agree that a person should have to show some form of photo ID to vote.
Another factoid is that the US isn’t trying to break new ground here, almost every country in the world requires voter ID. Why then are there certain politicians in the US who have decided the US should become a country where voter ID requirements is a problem?
8th Annual Big Heroes Appreciation Event
Part of the “Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections” Executive Order is a section called Safeguarding the Vote.
It reads:
SAFEGUARDING THE VOTE: President Trump recognizes that free, fair, and honest elections—unmarred by fraud, errors, or suspicion—are essential to our Constitutional Republic. The United States lags behind other nations in enforcing basic and necessary election protections.
o India and Brazil tie voter identification to a biometric database, while the United States largely relies on self-attestation for citizenship.
o Germany and Canada require paper ballots when tabulating votes, while the United States has a patchwork of methods that often lack basic chain-of-custody protections.
o Denmark and Sweden sensibly limit mail-in voting to those unable to vote in person—and late arrivals do not count—while American elections now feature mass voting by mail, even after Election Day.
• Without proper enforcement of Federal laws, illegal voting, discrimination, fraud, and other forms of malfeasance and error dilute the votes of lawful American citizens.
Federal law establishes a uniform Election Day across the nation for Federal elections, but numerous states fail to comply with those laws by counting ballots received after Election Day.
• The Biden Administration blocked states from removing aliens from voter rolls, while foreign nationals and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) exploited loopholes to pour millions into influencing U.S. elections.

T.D. Jakes reveals cause of his major health incident
The “right side of my heart had completely stopped getting blood at all,” the senior pastor of The Potter’s House said.
By Adrian Ashford
Dallas megachurch pastor Bishop T.D. Jakes said Wednesday that the health incident he suffered at his church last November was a “massive” heart attack.
The Potter’s House pastor’s statement came in an interview with The Today Show.
“I didn’t really realize what was happening to me onstage until I got to the hospital in an ambulance and fussing that it happened onstage, by the way, because I didn’t want it to happen, and the doctor leaned over my ear and said, ‘You had a massive heart attack,’ ” Jakes told The Today Show.
“The reason I didn’t realize it was because I had none of the symptoms that they say,” Jakes said about the heart attack. “No numbness, no sharp pain, no anything. I just kind of drifted off to sleep. I didn’t know what it was, but I almost died…”
The “right side of my heart
had completely stopped getting blood at all,” Jakes said. “I was preaching with half of my heart closed.”
When reached for comment Wednesday, a spokesperson for The Potter’s House said she did not anticipate that the church would have more information to share.
In the Today Show interview, Jakes also thanked people for praying for him. “My whole church — I mean global, not just the congregation, even people who didn’t go to my church — people everywhere sending in prayers, I’m so thankful, and I want to use this opportunity to thank them,” he said.
During the interview on video, Jakes also discussed the allegations of attempted sexual assault made against him by two brothers whom Jakes is suing for defamation.
“We’re living in a time of misinformation and disinformation; it’s hard to live with,” the pastor said, responding to a question

about the defamation lawsuit he filed the day after his health incident. “Some people don’t see you as an individual. They see you as an opportunity.”
Last year, during a November service at his church, Jakes began to shake after finishing a prayer and was quickly surrounded on stage by men in suits as shouts
could be heard from the congregation.
The Potter’s House had not explained what caused the health scare, though Jakes said on social media in November that it was not a stroke. In a service a week after the incident, Jakes appeared in a livestreamed video and said he “feels good and is in no pain.”
“Many of you don’t realize that you’re looking at a miracle,” he said in the video. “I faced a life-threatening calamity, was rushed to the ICU unit; I had emergency surgery. I survived the surgery. I’m back.”
At a New Year’s Eve service at The Potter’s House, Jakes began his hourlong sermon by talking more about the health scare. “If all the odds have been against you, and if they couldn’t hardly get a pulse on you, and if you couldn’t hardly recognize anybody and everybody said you weren’t gonna make it, I’m standing here as a testimony,” he said.

Midlothian PD recognizes partnership with Bridges Training Foundation during April’s Autism Awareness Month
By Rita Cook Correspondent Texas Metro News
MIDLOTHIAN – Awareness is the best recipe for interacting with others and understanding the challenges people face.
The Midlothian Police Department is taking that awareness to the next level for April’s Autism Awareness Month.
It is that kind of awareness on a wide scale that might possibly have diffused a situation in February in Parker County when video emerged and arrests were made showing a teacher allegedly hitting a 10-year-old autistic boy.
The incident shed light on the situation but is likely not an isolated incident. It could happen anywhere.
For their part in increasing awareness,
the Midlothian PD partnered with the Bridges Training Foundation for April to enhance departmental awareness and promote positive interactions between law enforcement and the autism community.
Midlothian Police Chief Carl Smith said, “As we observe Autism Awareness Month it is important to reflect on the significance of this month while supporting those living with autism.”
Smith said for law enforcement, supporting individuals with autism goes beyond simply recognizing the unique challenges they may face.
During the month of April, Midlothian PD Officers are allowed to wear Autism Awareness Pins as a visible symbol of their

Crockett, Goldman introduce Abortion Care Awareness Act of 2025

WASHINGTON — Representatives Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) and Dan Goldman (NY-10) reintroduced the Abortion Care Awareness Act of 2025, to combat anti-abortion misinformation and disinformation campaigns increasing medically accurate and complete information related to accessing abortion and reproductive healthcare.
In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade, millions of women were stripped of their ability to receive vital abortion healthcare, leaving countless individuals in a state of confusion, fear, and uncertainty regarding their rights and how to access abortion and related health services. The current Trump Administration has only made this worse. Within the last three months, the Department of Health and Human Services removed information pertaining to contraception and abortion from its agency website. Additionally, Attorney General Pam Bondi at the Department of Justice issued a notice and memorandum informing prosecutors to not enforce various violations of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act—a federal law that prohibits threat of force, obstruction, and property damage meant to interfere with reproductive healthcare services. This is to say nothing of the growing efforts of states to place even more restrictions on abortion across the country and promote

mis- and dis-information about medical information and abortion healthcare.
The Abortion Care Awareness Act of 2025 directs the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (“HHS”) to conduct a public education and outreach campaign on abortion and abortion-related services. This national public campaign will include, among other things:
Where and how to access abortion, including medication abortion, and related health services based on State and Federal laws;
How to differentiate between anti-abortion centers or “crisis pregnancy centers” from facilities that actually provide abortion and related health services; and
How to identify disinformation campaigns and misinformation regarding abortion and abortion-related health services.
The campaign will be in coordination with licensed health care professionals focused on sexual and reproductive health, non-profit organizations dedicated to expanding reproductive rights, state and local health departments, and non-profit institutions of higher education. HHS will be required to make this information publicly available on its website and ensure that the information and outreach includes cultural competency, efficacy, and accessibility for underserved communities, including communities of color, tribal communities, immigrants, people with

disabilities, and people with limited English proficiency.
“Women across the country, especially those in abortion restrictive states like Texas, have been repeated targets of mis- and dis-information campaigns from far-right politicians and anti-abortion groups to prevent these women from accessing this important health care,” said Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett. “During the most personal moments of their lives, women should be able to quickly access truthful information about their rights to abortion and abortion-related services, and be provided with medically accurate information grounded in science, medicine, and facts. That is why I am proud to reintroduce the Abortion Care Awareness Act to help educate individuals about their rights to make a deeply personal decisions about their bodies and ensure that no one is misled about accessing vital abortion and abortion-related health care avail-

able to them.”
“As abortion rights face relentless attacks at every level of government, women across the country are being inundated with a maze of laws and false and misleading information about their reproductive healthcare options,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “I’m proud to reintroduce the Abortion Care Awareness Act to ensure every woman has access to accurate, trusted information about their rights and available care. No woman should be deceived by bad actors seeking to interfere with her personal medical decisions.”
“As an OB-GYN who includes abortion care as part of my practice, I’ve seen countless patients struggle to reach me due to the spread of mis- and disinformation. For many, the inability to access information about what services are available, what resources they can seek and what legalities they may have to encounter push abortion care completely out of reach.
“LORIE
Power to Decide applauds the Abortion Care Awareness Act and urge members of Congress to support this important legislation,” said Dr. Raegan McDonald-Mosley, MD, MPH, CEO of Power to Decide.
“Right now, anti-abortion extremists are using an overwhelming amount of misinformation and disinformation to deny people access to abortion and reproductive health care,” said CEO and President of Reproductive Freedom for All, Mini Timmarajuhe. “The Abortion Care Awareness Act of 2025 works to combat this directly by ensuring that families have the most accurate resources and information to access reproductive health care. We thank Reps. Crockett and Goldman for their leadership on this legislation as we work to fight back against the GOP’s anti-abortion agenda to ensure everyone has access to critical life-saving health services.”

Arlington, TX – The Dallas Wings will host the Indiana Fever at American Airlines Center on June 27, with tipoff slated for 6:30 p.m. CT. Recently announced Wings partner Albert will be the presenting sponsor of the game, which will feature “A Night In Dallas” theme.
American Airlines Center is located in downtown Dallas, Texas, and is home to the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks and NHL’s Dallas Stars. American Airlines Center consistently ranks as one of the busiest arenas in the world and has the ability to welcome 20,000 fans for basketball games.
“We are thrilled to bring WNBA basketball to American Airlines Center for the first time,” Dallas Wings CEO and Managing Partner Greg Bibb said. “Having the best women’s basketball players on the planet playing in a worldclass venue such as American Airlines Center is truly fitting. Hosting this game at AAC provides our athletes with the well-deserved opportunity to be showcased in front of a record home crowd.
“Playing our first game in our future home city of Dallas offers our fans not only a new and unique opportunity to experience the WNBA but also enjoy a preview of what is to come.”
Dallas Wings Season Ticket Members, whose tickets will be honored for the American Airlines Center game, will receive exclusive presale access to purchase additional tickets beginning on March 24 at 10 a.m. CT. Single-game tickets for all other Dallas Wings home games, including the May 10 preseason contest against the Toyota Antelopes, will go on sale on April 14.
“A Night In Dallas” is expected to feature the three most recent No. 1 WNBA Draft picks. The Dallas Wings have the No. 1 selection in this year’s class, while the Indiana Fever boast 2024 No. 1 overall pick Caitlin Clark and 2023’s top pick Aliyah Boston. The 2025
Dallas Wings to Host Indiana Fever
WNBA Draft is slated for April 14 at 6:30 p.m. CT, airing on ESPN.
The Wings currently have two first round picks and five total selections in the 2025 WNBA Draft. In addition to the No. 1 pick, Dallas also has Nos. 12, 14, 27 and 31.
The June 27 game will mark the first time the Wings will play a home game outside of their home arena at College Park Center in Arlington, excluding the 2020 Wubble season. CPC, which has been home to the Wings since the 2016 season, has a capacity of 6,251.

Dallas posted eight regular-season sellouts during the 2024 campaign, and played to a capacity crowd at College Park Center a total of nine times including the Wings’ preseason tilt against Indiana. Over 20 games in 2024, College Park Center was on average
at 95-percent capacity.
The 2025 Dallas Wings season comes with much anticipation. Since the end of the 2024 campaign the Wings have revamped their Front Office, which included the hiring of Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Curt Miller and Head Coach Chris Koclanes.
In addition to the 2025 WNBA Draft Class, Miller made significant roster moves during free agency which included signing reigning WNBA Most Improved Player DiJonai Carrington, 2022 All-Rookie Team pick NaLyssa Smith, former Wings guard Tya-
sha Harris and 2020 All-WNBA Second Team member Myisha Hines-Allen.
That group joins notable returnees Arike Ogunbowale who earned 2024 All-WNBA Second Team honors and was the All-Star Game MVP for the second time, along with Teaira McCowan and Maddy Siegrist, who are both coming off impressive seasons for the Wings. as, including reaching the Semifinals in 2023. Joe V’s Smart Shop Opens Second Store in DFW

By Anthony Council Correspondent Texas Metro News
The much-anticipated grand opening of Joe V’s, the 12th store in the state and only the second in the DFW metroplex, was a twoday spectacle that brought excitement and joy to the community. Located in the heart of the city, at 7700 Samuell Blvd. The event was nothing short of a celebration. From the moment shoppers arrived, they were greeted with a lively atmosphere featuring cheerleaders, a marching band, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Joe V’s Smart Shop offers everything shoppers love about H-E-B but on a smaller scale—while maintaining the quality and affordability that the grocery chain is known for. Among the standout deals were 1-pound packs of ribs for just 67 cents and a bundle of four apples for only a dollar. The store’s commitment to providing high-quality products at unbeatable prices made it an instant favorite in the area.
Joe Villareal, Director of Operations and Innovation for Joe V’s Smart Shop, expressed his enthusiasm about the new opening and its impact on the Dallas-Fort Worth region. “The last is always
the best,” he said. “We feel great about this store and our amazing 230 partners. We couldn’t be happier. It looks like the community is embracing us as well. We’re just so thankful to be part of this community.”
But the celebration wasn’t just about the store’s opening. Joe V’s also reinforced its commitment to giving back. As part of the festivities, the store donated $10,000 checks to several local organizations, including the Wilkinson Center, Inspired Vision Compassion Center, and the St. Luke Community UMC Food Pantry. This generous initiative highlighted the store’s dedication to being
more than just a business—it is an active and caring member of the community.
One of the event’s most memorable moments was the dedication of customers like Zaida Permudz, who secured her spot as the first in line by arriving at 11 p.m. the night before. “I’m a big fan of H-E-B stores,” she said. “Having one nearby will help me get better prices on meat and other items for my family. Plus, I love that they support local companies.”
Justin Tippett, Chief Operating Officer of Joe V’s Smart Shop, emphasized the store’s commitment to excellent customer service. “I expect everyone who comes in to,
first find what they’re looking for. But more importantly, I hope they feel respected,” Tippett explained. “We want to ensure our customers receive high-quality products and are checked out as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
This opening marks another step in Joe V’s and H-E-B’s mission to provide outstanding grocery shopping experiences across Texas, with more stores coming to the state from Houston to Dallas. With a strong focus on quality, community, and customer service, it’s no surprise that the buzz surrounding this new store was so contagious.
Midlothian PD recognizes partnership with Bridges Training cont.
commitment to understanding, supporting, and fostering positive relationships with individuals on the autism spectrum.
The idea is that the pins will represent a dedication to raising awareness about the unique challenges faced by those with autism, as well as the importance of de-escalation techniques and tailored approaches in interactions.
Smith said, “We are excited to accept these pins to raise awareness and support initiatives that will make a lasting difference. We are not just protecting people, we are building bridges of understanding,”
Smith also gave a shout out to
the Midlothian PD’s Crisis Intervention team and Michael & and Melissa Boler from Bridges Training Foundation.
He acknowledged his Department’s Crisis Intervention team and said all officers will be certified with mental health training, “which can help create a safer interaction overall in the community,” he added.
Michael Boler, COO & Director of Bridges Training Foundation said, “We are honored to be able to participate with the Midlothian PD in their efforts to make a more understanding community for our population.”
Overall, Smith said he encour-
ages not only his officers, but the entire community to get involved in learning about the Midlothian Police Department’s Crisis Intervention Unit Guardian Program. He believes learning skills to interact with autism in the community is important, but said the unit will also be key to supporting local initiatives overall.
“It is the hope that the education, advocacy, and collaboration the Midlothian Police Department and Bridges Training Foundation will build, is a positive step in breaking down barriers and ensure individuals with autism feel seen, valued, and understood,” Smith concluded.

Flipping Your Tax Refund: Smart Ways To Build Wealth
Tax season is here, and many people are anticipating a refund check. While it may be tempting to splurge on a vacation, new gadgets, or shopping, there’s a smarter way to use this money. If invested wisely, your tax refund can be a stepping stone to financial growth.
Instead of treating it as extra cash, consider your refund seed money for wealth-building opportunities. Whether investing, saving, buying property, or starting a business, the right moves today can pay off in the future.
Why We Need to Rethink How We Use Refunds
For many people, a tax refund feels like a yearly bonus. However, this money isn’t a gift—it’s your hard-earned income that the government withheld throughout the year. The key is to stop viewing refunds as “spending money” and treat them as investment opportunities.
Many in the Black community have historically faced barriers to wealth-building, from redlining to wage disparities. Because of this, financial literacy and smart money decisions are more critical than ever. Instead of spending your refund on things that lose value, consider using it to create assets that can generate longterm financial security.
Some important reasons to rethink your tax refund strategy include:
• Building generational wealth – Investments today can benefit future generations.
• Creating financial security – Smart decisions now can reduce financial stress later.
• Closing the wealth gap

– The racial wealth gap remains significant, but strategic financial moves can help bridge it.
• Increasing growth opportunities–Whether investing, homeownership, or entrepreneurship, putting your refund into the right areas can open doors.
By shifting your mindset, you can turn your tax refund into a financial tool rather than just another expense.
Investing in Real Estate: Is Now the Right Time?
Real estate has long been one of the most reliable ways to build wealth. While buying property may seem like a major financial commitment, there are several ways to get started, even with a modest tax refund.
Ways to Invest in Real Estate with Your Refund
• Down payment on a home – If homeownership is your goal, your tax refund can help cover the down payment or closing costs. Programs like FHA loans allow first-time buyers to put down as little as 3.5%.
• House hacking – Buying a duplex or multi-unit property and renting out one unit can help cover your mortgage while building equity.
• Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) – If buying property isn’t an option right now, you can invest in real estate through REITs, which allow you to own shares in real estate ventures.
• Land purchases – In some areas, land buying is relatively affordable and can be valued over time.
Is Now a Good Time to Invest?
The real estate market constantly fluctuates, but waiting for the “perfect” time isn’t always the best strategy. Instead, consider:
• Interest rates – If rates are low, locking in a mortgage could save money in the long run.
• Local market trends –Research housing prices in your area and look for upcoming opportunities.
• Affordability – Even if you’re not ready to buy property outright, investing in REITs or land can be a good way to start. Real estate can be a powerful wealth-building tool; even a small tax refund can be enough to take the first step.
Stocks vs. Savings Accounts: Where to Put Your Money
One common debate about wealth-building is whether to save money in a traditional savings account
or invest in stocks. Both options have pros and cons, but one offers a higher potential for growth.
The Case for Savings Accounts
Putting money into a savings account is a safe and reliable way to store funds, but it comes with limitations.
Pros:
• Money is secure and insured by the FDIC.
• Easy access for emergencies.
• There is no risk of losing your initial deposit.
Cons:
• Traditional savings accounts offer very low interest rates (often below 1%).
• Inflation reduces the value of money sitting in a savings account over time.
• Money doesn’t grow significantly.
The Case for Stocks Investing in stocks offers a higher return potential but comes with more risk.
Pros:
• Historically, the stock market has averaged returns of 7-10% per year.
• Dividend stocks can pro-
vide passive income.
• Investing in index funds or ETFs allows for diversification and reduces risk.
Cons:
• Stock prices fluctuate, meaning short-term losses are possible.
• It requires research and patience.
• Money isn’t as easily accessible as it is in a savings account.
Which Option Is Best? Instead of choosing one over the other, a balanced approach is ideal.

Flipping Your Tax Refund: Smart Ways To Build Wealth
• Start with an emergency fund –If you don’t have at least three months’ worth of expenses saved, put part of your tax refund into a high-yield savings account.
• Invest the rest – Consider investing in low-risk ETFs or index funds to let your money grow over time.
• Diversify – Combining savings, stocks, and other investments can create a well-rounded financial plan.
You can enjoy financial security and long-term growth by strategically splitting your refund between savings and investments.
Starting a Business with Your Refund
Entrepreneurship is one of the most effective ways to build wealth and financial independence. If you’ve ever thought about starting a business, your tax refund can be the initial investment to get started.
Business Ideas You Can Start with a Tax Refund
• Online store – Start an e-commerce business selling products through platforms like Shopify, Etsy, or Amazon.
• Freelancing or consulting – If you have writing, graphic design, or marketing skills, use your refund to set up a website
and market your services.
• Food business – Catering, meal prep services, or a food truck could be launched with a small initial investment.
• Real estate wholesaling – This allows you to flip contracts between buyers and sellers for a profit with minimal upfront costs.
• Stock market investing for business growth – Some entrepreneurs use stock market profits to reinvest in their business.
How to Get Started
• Write a business plan – A simple plan helps outline your goals, target audience, and budget.

• Invest in branding – A logo, website, and social media presence make your business look professional.
• Market your business – Use social media ads, word of mouth, and networking to attract customers.
Even if your refund isn’t enough to launch a full-scale business, it can cover startup costs and lay the foundation for future growth.
Turn Your Refund into an Investment,
Not a Splurge
Millions of people receive tax refunds yearly, but only a small percentage use them to build

wealth. Instead of treating your refund as a bonus for spending, flip it into an opportunity for financial growth.
• Invest in real estate to build long-term wealth.
• Use the stock market to grow your money faster than a savings account.
• Start a business and take control of your financial future.
Wealth-building starts with small, intentional decisions. No matter the size of your refund, using it wisely can create financial opportunities for years to come.
So, how will you flip yours?
