Back support for chair, how to reduce back pain Very few of us can boast of not having to sit on a chair for most part of our day. Sitting by mechanics causes increased pressure in the discs of the lower back. While sitting for long, we slouch. Slouching causes overstretching of spinal ligaments & increases the disc pressure even more. This all means, it puts you at risk for lower back pain. You could be sitting at work or at home or traveling or even at a beauty salon! Either way- knowing how to look after your back is very very important. You could take your back lightly initially, when you start working or you don't have pain. You think oh its fine,my back feels okay. And we never tend to think anything bad could happen to us, till it actually does! So how to reduce back pain, if we can't change that we do have to sit a lot during the day?! There are a lot of different things that can be done. But for the purpose of this article, let's focus on how using a back support for your chair can help to reduce back pain. There a whole variety of back supports for chairs available these days. Educating yourself about what you need before jumping into buying makes sense. The type of chair/s you will use this support on is something to keep in mind while buying. SITTING POSTURE While you sit you need to be able to maintain the natural inward curve of your lower back. You need to keep your shoulders pulled back, your head neck in alignment with the spine, not hanging forwards. With all this, a general sense of length in the spine, as though you are being stretched upwards. Don't collapse into the chair, with body weight & gravity. HOW TO REDUCE BACK PAIN BY CHOOSING THE RIGHT BACK SUPPORT FOR MY CHAIR? The back support for your chair should enable this good body posture. If it is too soft, you will slouch into it. If it is too hard, it may overarch and push your back out, which will cause different types of problems. What you need, is something firm that helps to hold the inward curve of your lower back. The shape of the support is critical. If it is just straight or curving in with your weight, it does not conform to the shape of the human spine. A support with a convex outwards shape (means bulging outwards) helps to fill the gap of the inward curve of your lower back. A device which is firm & has this shape is called a 'Lumbar Support'. Various supports are available these days. The ones that are made of Memory Foam are firm enough to support and yet comfortable enough to feel like a cushion. Mesh supports are good too, if they are not too curved & if you can get comfortable with the hardness of mesh. These supports are light & easy to carry everywhere. It is the most effective aid to help prevent back pain. Transform 'bad for the back chairs' into spine-friendly ones by using the right back support for your chairs!
