Life of horror The International Labour Organization estimates that 1.2 million children are trafficked each year. The traff icking of children has been internationally recognized as a serious crime that exists in every region worldwide and which often has human rights implications. It is only within the past decade that this practice have risen to international prominence, due to a dramatic increase. Parents are urged to be extremely aware of the dangers of children abducted for human trafficking. This is the biggest human rights issue of our time. Children as young as 9 years old are prostituted as a result of this illicit trade. It has emerged that in most instances young girls are promised false modelling jobs, after which they are kidnapped and forced into a world of drugs and enslavement. We urge parents to be vigilant and keep a watchful eye over their children. Parents need to educate their children to be alert. We would like to point out this is the harsh reality and everyone should be extremely cautious of their children’s whereabouts at all times. The emotional pain are destructive and indescribable.

Illegal Pets paradise @ Ex treme Pets immigrants Two Zimbabwean nationals, age 34 and 36, were arrested, as upon inspection, they failed to produce legal travel documents. During interviews with the suspects, it was determined that the two men were from Berea and Hillbrow, Johannesburg, respectively.
Stolen goods A 23-year old male suspect was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property. Security guards of Crime Stop were patrolling Strydom Street, Heidelberg, when they spotted a young male carrying a pink plastic bag. When the security guards approached him, and requested to see what he was carrying, they deduced that the goods were suspected stolen. When asked where he got the items he couldn’t provide a satisfactory explanation. Items seized includes a computer box, computer screen and cables, bank cards, SASSA cards, ID Books.

Crime Time 20 January Two male and one female suspects, age 20 and 46, were arrested for possession of dagga and Nyaope respectively in the Heidelberg Shoprite parking lot. Police spotted the suspects in the centre and upon searching them, found dagga, syringes and Nyaope. Suspects will appear in the Heidelberg Magistrate Court. 20 January Five suspects, between 20 and 41-years of age, were arrested for various crimes. Two suspects were apprehended for dagga possession. These suspects will appear before the Heidelberg Magistrate. One suspect was arrested for drinking in public and was issued with a J534 fine. 20 January Two suspects, aged 39, were apprehended for possession of dagga. While searching vagrants sleeping in Gani’s Auto Building in Meyer Street, Heidelberg, they discovered the man carrying dagga. Arrested suspects will appear before the Heidelberg Magistrate Court. Chamberlain street, Nigel 22 January An inquest docket was opened after an elderly lady was found dead in an empty bath. It is alleged that the deceased lived alone and that she contacted her medical doctor daily. On the day of the incident, she didn’t contact her doctor. Her house was found locked. Her son arrived and forced the door open, and he entered. She was found fully clothed in her bath. Culpable homicide on the R42 next to Heidelberg Mall 22 January A middle-aged man was knocked down by a passing vehicle on the R42 towards Nigel. It is alleged that the man travelled with a friend who brought his vehicle to a halt on the road shoulder. The man got out of the car to cross the dense traffic on the R42. On returning to his friend, a passing vehicle hit the man. Emer-G-Med paramedics certified the man as dead on the scene.

Car Hijacking 22 January A car hijacking docket was opened after a 42-year old Zimbabwean National was hijacked of his orange Ford Ranger by two unknown suspects at gunpoint. The complainant alleged that he was sitting in his car with his girlfriend when they were confronted by armed suspects. The suspects demanded bank cards and pin codes and threatened to kill them if they gave the wrong pin codes. The suspects drove around with the victims while drawing money from their accounts. A total of R30 000 was withdrawn. The victims were dropped off in Midrand. The complainant managed to get a lift and opened a case at the Brakpan SAPS. No suspects were arrested as yet. Saad van die saaier What is free sugar Jesus vertel van ‘n man wie goeie saad in Sy land gesaai het, die Een wie die goeie saad, die evangelie van hoop en geloof en van Sy Koninkryk verkondig. Die klem val op die goeie saad. Goeie saad van geestelike verryking, geloof en dat daar ‘n ryke oes, ‘n goeie en voorspoedige toekoms as beloning op Sy arbeid wag. In ander woorde: Hy het sy belegging in ons gemaak, Hy het Sy deel gedoen en ons as die uiteindelike oes maak die hart van die saaier bly. Daar is ‘n verwagting dat ons veel vrug sal dra tot Sy eer. Maar dan kom die opponent, ‘n vyand en wie se doel dit is om die oes te kontamineer deur sy slegte saad, nie in sy eie nie, maar in die goeie tuinier se grond, waarin daar alreeds edele saad gesaai, is te saai. Jesus het gekom om te soek en te red wie verlore is en Sy goeie saad van redding en die belofte van ‘n ewige lewe aan Sy kinders te bring. Maar soos wat die proses van wasdom en geestelike groei vorder, net so ontkiem en groei die saad wat die teenoorgestelde doel het. Ongeloof, twyfel en ‘n neiging tot sonde. Dis belangrik om daarop te let dat die vyand juis onder die beskerming van die nag, die donker sy vernietigingswerk doen. Die nag is ‘n beeld van magteloosheid en weerloosheid. Statistiek bewys dat die grootste getal misdaad snags plaasvind. Dan is die slagoffer meer kwesbaar en minder waaksaam. Dis waarom die Woord sê: Waak en bid dat julle nie in versoeking kom nie. Moenie slaap wanneer jy geestelik wakker moet wees nie. Die dief kom in ‘n oomblik van swakheid. Dan kom uiteindelike oes. In plaas van geloof in God en in Sy Woord ontstaan daar twyfel en ongeloof. Dan maak geloof plek vir die vleeslike gevoel en hoor ons meer en meer die volgende: Ek voel moeg vir die lewe. Ek voel ek misluk. Ek voel ek is nikswerd nie. Ek voel alleen en afgeskryf. Ek voel God het my verlaat. Ek voel ek wil nie meer aangaan nie.

Nie net ‘n gedeelte daarvan nie. Die land en die oes, ek en jy, moet suiwer wees, nie net in die goeie nie, maar ook in donker tye. Nie net wanneer dit met ons goed gaan nie, maar wanneer ons ook deur die dal van dood skaduwee gaan moet ons lewens getuig van goeie vrug en wasdom. Die Here seën u.
It’s no longer a secret that the clear majority of us are blissfully unaware sugar addicts. Modern conveniences in consumables are great at making life easier in the short term, but what about the long-term implications? A report published in 2009 showcases that food addiction is plausible as “brain pathways that evolved to respond to natural rewards are also activated by addictive drugs. Sugar releases opioids and dopamine and thus might be expected to have addictive potential.” A further report published in 2013 indicates that sugar is as, if not more, desirable than addictive drugs such as cocaine. This research aims to prove that “sugar and sweetness can induce reward and craving that are comparable in magnitude to those induced by addictive drugs”. With these two f indings, it’s hard to believe that as parents we are still largely oblivious to the long-term, damaging effects of over-consuming sugar-dense foods and beverages. So, a sugar tax may be introduced, this will certainly help moderate and potentially reduce the average consumption of free sugars (sugar added to food and drink, as well as sugar found naturally in honey, syrups, fruit juices and fruit juice concentrates). But it will take a deeper understanding of what we consume to avoid the top health issues South Africans currently face – obesity, diabetes and heart conditions? All directly resulting from amongst other factors, but largely to sugar-dense diets and little to no exercise. Per a statement released by the World Health Organisation, “adults and children need to reduce their daily intake of free sugars to less than 10% of their total energy intake. A further reduction to below 5% or roughly 25 grams (6 teaspoons) per day would provide additional health benefits”. What is a safe recommended daily allowance for sugar? The UK’s Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) have suggested the following: Children aged 4 to 6 should have no more than 19g or five teaspoons of free sugars per day. Children aged 7 to 10 should have no more than 24g or six teaspoons of free sugars per day.
Children aged 11 years and upwards, as well as adults, should have no more than 30g or seven teaspoons of free sugar per day. To illustrate what this means, look at some of the popular beverages our children love, and their approximate sugar contents: 250ml iced tea = 19g or four teaspoons of free sugar; 250ml flavoured drinking yoghurt = 26.8 g or f ive and a half teaspoons of free sugar; 330ml cola = 35g or seven teaspoons of free sugar; 330ml ginger beer = 37g or six and a half teaspoons of free sugar. Overcoming an addiction is by no means an easy feat and the same holds true for sugar dependency. Almost all modern convenience consumables contain added free sugar especially children’s favourites such as cereals, beverages, fast foods and treats. So how do we reduce the excess sugars from our diets? Become aware, understand that food is medicine and always try to ensure that all consumables remain as close as possible to their natural state. If sweetening is required, look at healthier options such as fresh fruit or vegetables. Read labels carefully, not all free or added sugars are labelled as sugars. For example: agave nectar, corn sweetener, dextrose, honey, corn syrup, sucrose, fructose, glucose and molasses. Limit sugar added beverages cited as being responsible for most added sugar in US diets. Try naturally flavouring water or using a SodaStream to make fun, healthier drink options. Their syrups also comprise one-third of the sugar compared to regular sodas. Reduce your family’s super sweet sugar tolerance with a moderated sugar and bolstered wholefood diet. Over time consumables high in sugar will start tasting too sweet as your tolerance returns to its normal natural state. Bake instead of buying treats. Homemade treats will no doubt contain less added and highly synthetic sweeteners, and you can further reduce the sugar content with natural sweeteners like fruits or vegetables. The key to all healthy living is moderation and a balanced diet. This is not to say indulgent foods high in fat and/or sugar can’t be enjoyed, they can, but just not daily.

The pleasures of reinstating a licence. Eleven years in Heidelberg and nothing has changed. I pay my taxes and electricity bill. Phoning all the numbers at the bottom without any satisfaction. As always no service, bad service, personal attacks, politics- Nono you are not suited for this work. I am a resident at 8 Mayflower Ave Bergsig Heidelberg Gauteng. My wife was sick and could not renew her drivers license at the time. After her recovery the following happened. We are married in community of property. The property was bought before we were married and is only in my name. We have ID Books and a marriage license. We were ask to get an affidavit to confirm that we are married. Due to the police’s error, we have to repeat this process. Nono, who is very, very unhelpful, refused to give me her surname upon enquiry.

With reference to the article in REKORD, dated 17 January, 2017, for the erection of a cell phone mast at the NG Kerk Noycedale, I would like to have the following questions answered: Who issued the written consent? Who determined the need for the construction of a tower in this area? Who will be serviced by this tower? Why was there no public participation involved? Are you aware of the objection to the erection of other cell towers in Nigel, as published by another publication in 2016? Although permission/approval may have been sought from council, the erection of the mast at the NG Kerk, was kept very quiet. I wonder if even the residents in Noycedale were aware of it. In the absence of the correct information (consent was issued, but readers/residents do not know by whom) it seems to me as if someone only wants to generate selfish income for personal gain and have no concern/obligation to others’ health or wellbeing. Consumers might be under the impression, specifically perhaps those in Noycedale, that suddenly they will have better cell phone network coverage, but to the contrary, they will have no benefit at all. Especially those who reside even within zero to 400m from the tower. In so far as public participation is concerned, I wish to point out that attempts to remove this from legislation, many objections were received by government, amongst those included, the ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION RESEARCH FOUNDATION OF SOUTH AFRICA, and
individuals such as the Oppenheimers. At this point I wish to draw your attention to a resolution taken by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality Cellular Masts Policy Item A-Cped (04-2013) CM 01/08/ 2013 City Planning and Economic Development: Oversight Committee Report on the new policy on Cellular Masts, in which was resolved that public participation must be ensured. According to the policy, “The applicant will therefore only have to submit a building plan in terms of the National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act 103 of 1977 which is the responsibility of the City Planning Department (Building Control Division) as well as proof that public participation has been undertaken. There has been no evidence of such participation. This concerns everyone in Nigel. Service providers, and those who may stand a chance to gain from the erection of such towers, will try and convince you that it is to your benefit. Scientific research have proved otherwise. Not only in the Republic of South Africa, but globally, but will not tell you about the negative impact of cell phone radiation. Objections to the erection of cell phone towers in residential areas include, amongst others, the health risks to human and fauna and flora. For these reasons, I object to the erection of the cellular mast in Noycedale as reported in the REKORD.
According to her an affidavit is required by law, which she was only willing to show me on the condition that I came to her office. She said that her government constitutes the law. Nono wasted my time by putting me on hold. Trying as I could, there was no problem solved but another created. Now I must travel from Johannesburg, solve the problem, lose time and money. By now I am aggrivated. I was forced to counsel with my lawyer. I do not expect any reaction, due to the fact everybody works like Nono !!!!! Liefde is die hoogste vorm van omgee en word dikwels verwar met verliefdheid, ‘n neurobiologiese verskynsel. Die konsep van liefde hou baie nou verwant aan die konsep van onvoorwaardelike liefde.
Wat is liefde? Liefde is een van die sterkste emosies wat ons as mense kan ervaar. Maar wat is liefde? Ongelukkig word alle mense nie met dieselfde persepsie van liefde groot nie. Van ons kom uit liefdevolle huise uit wat dit vir ons makliker maak om liefde te wys. Van ons is egter nie so gelukkig nie. Liefde vir hierdie mense kan ‘n onbekende emosie wees, veral wanneer hulle dit moet wys. Hulle persepsie van liefde kan ook baie negatief wees, byvoorbeeld “ek wys vir jou ek is lief vir jou wanneer ek jou beheer”. Maar selfs al het ons nie talle kinder trauma’s nie kan ons persepsie van liefde irrasioneel wees. Liefde moet prakties in jou verhouding ingesit word….dit gaan nie net spontaan gebeur nie. As paartjies mekaar ontmoet dan is dit wonderlik. Wanneer ons verlief is, is alles maklik en ons gee spontaan liefde vir mekaar. Nadat die verlief weg is, kom die liefde in. Dit is persoonlik, diep en wonderlik maar mens moet hard werk daaraan om dit in jou verhouding te hou – veral nadat mens getroud is. Fisiese aanraking Fisiese aanraking is een van die belangrikste elemente in ‘n romantiese verhouding. Persone wat se liefdestaal fisiese aanraking is, het dit veral nodig op ‘n daaglikse basis want “Ek voel jy is lief vir my wanneer jy aan my vat”. Opboudende woorde Woorde is die tweede liefdes taal. Die uitdaging met woorde is dat almal nie ‘n opboudende woordeskat het nie – veral wanneer jy uit ‘n baie kritiese huisgesin kom. In hierdie geval moet jy jou woordeskat verbeter deur uit te kyk vir opboudende woorde en te leer hoe om dit toe te pas. Indien jou maat se liefdestaal woorde is, kan hy/sy jou ook uithelp met watter opboudende woorde vir hulle belangrik is om te hoor. Kwaliteit tyd Vir persone wat kwaliteit tyd as liefdestaal het is jou onverdeelde aandag baie belangrik Kwaliteit tyd beteken om dinge saam te doen en te geniet. Hierdie is tyd sonder selfone en TV waar ons op mekaar kan fokus. Wanneer paartjies nie kwaliteit tyd saam spandeer nie gaan hulle konneksie met mekaar verloor wat die liefde uit jou verhouding uitsuig. Nuwe uitdagings Nigel VLU dames sien uit na ‘n opwindende 2017 met nuwe kreasies. Vanjaar word die maandelikse vergaderings by N.G. Kerk Nigel-Oos se kerkgebou aangebied. Die dames het hul eerste vergadering op Donderdag, 12 Januarie gehou. Die gasspreekster was Chantelle Mennegke van Freedom Recovery Centre in Nigel. Sy het die rehabilitasie proses en misbruik van dwelms en verslaafdes gedeel. Saam met haar was Jean-Marie van Brackel wat self ‘n verslaafde was. Sy het haar verhaal van verslawing en genesing vertel. Die dames het die realiteit van verslawing besef. Nie net dwelms nie, maar ook voorskrif medisyne word
daagliks misbruik en verslawing spruit daaruit voort. Suzanne Drotsky het bedank as Voorsitster weens gesondheidsredes en Ronel Lombaard gaan die leisels oorneem. Die VLU dames het gedurende 2016 die bome van die jaar die Knoppiesboontjieboom, Wildevy en Gewone Witbos bestudeer en daarom ‘n boomplantdag gehou. Hulle het ‘n Pekanneut boom geplant aangesien die ander bome nie in Nigel aard nie. Hulle vertrou dat die boom vinnig gaan groei en baie vrugte sal dra en heerlike koelte sal verskaf. 19 900 Still not placed The DA is highly concerned that into the second week of the school year, 19 913 learners across the province have not been placed in a school, with no concrete assurances in place from Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi as to when they will f ind themselves in a classroom. The MEC announced that 12 821 applications had been received through walk-ins at admission centres, of which 7 820 are for Grade 1 and 5 001 for Grade 8. The learner, teacher ratio in the province is already high, making contact time difficult and focused interventions nearly impossible. This highlights the department’s failure to rapidly equip the province with desperately needed new schools. Whilst the reduction of online placements is commendable, thousands of learners in the second week of the school calendar still await placement. Parents have been given no assurance or deadlines as to when their children will be placed in school. MEC Lesuf i must communicate with parents and learners daily as to the number of placements made and provide assurance to parents that their children will be able to attend school. This will test the viability of the online registration system. The DA will be closely monitoring the progress of school admissions in the province and we will continue to conduct oversight visits at schools to inspect the impact of more learners whether it was followed by more resources – such as additional teachers, classrooms, stationery and furniture.

Think outside No box required In many towns, there is a lack of sport and recreational activities and suitable space to present these activities. But what about other, less publicised sports and activities? It is in effect all about keeping youngsters off the streets and away from danger and temptation. For older people, sport and activities create a platform to socialise, especially for those living alone. And for children, it can help develop their fine motor skills. It is natural to want to spend time with like-minded people as this adds more meaning and fulfilment to the time spent. Conventional sport would be rugby, soccer, tennis and badminton, hockey, cricket, running, athletics, cycling, boxing, wrestling, netball, swimming, martial arts, racing, bowling, volleyball, and basketball. Many also classify gym as a sport. And then, of course, sofa rugby. Extracurricular activities include chess, ballet, drama, modelling, choir practice, fishing, riding bikes and quads, walking or hiking, scrapbooking, painting, book clubs, and gardening. In our area, we are partly equipped with space to host sporting events, concerning the recent article on revamping the Jim Fouche sporting fields. We are bombarded by electronic devices consuming our every woken moment. It is damaging to our health. Children as young as five years are forced to wear spectacles because of ill eye health. The young, and young at heart spend a great deal of time on cell phones, iPads, PlayStations, Xboxes and WII. Already physical activity has dropped from hero to zero. But there is a solution in sight. Look at extraordinary sports from all over the world. They can be easily practised in South Africa. Croquet Involves hitting plastic or wooden balls with a mallet through hoops embedded in a grass playing court. Fencing No, not the type you have around your property. It is the ancient art of sword fighting. Zorbing
The recreation or sport of rolling downhill inside an orb, generally made of transparent plastic. Extreme Ironing People who play this wonderful sport go to some remote location and iron clothes! They call themselves ‘ironists’, and get a thrill from taking their ironing board, unplugged iron and some of their wrinkly clothes to some extreme places and photograph themselves doing it. Wife carrying competition A sport in which male competitors race while each is carrying a female teammate. It requires a man to negotiate a 253.5 m course while carrying their wife on their back. Chess boxing A hybrid sport that combines chess with boxing in alternating rounds. The sport alternates between games of boxing and chess after each round – waiting for a checkmate or knockout to decide the match. Bossaball It is like volleyball, but also includes elements of football, gymnastics and capoeira. The game played on a specially designed inflatable court with a circular trampoline on each side of a net. It is a ball game between two teams, each consisting of 3 to 5 players. Wall climbing An artificially constructed wall with grips for hands and feet, usually used for indoor climbing, but sometimes located outdoors.Wall climbing helps to develop the feet of a person who has a low foot arch. Knobkierie golf A traditional walking stick turned upside down. The knobkierie is cut from indigenous trees, and no two are alike. All we need is a few local spaces accessible to the public.
