Love looks not with the eyes but with the heart. But ofcourse I slipped and a bwoy slide. I watched your eyes as they heard my hurtful words; you centered my hips and still kissed these lips. You run your hands down my spine, pull my hair, grip then whine soft whispers in my ear “baby amma make you mine”. Too good fi be true; is not like I’m not intrested in you; is just that the last bwoy left me a little blue. Now feelings fade, fake friends shade at the sight of us both playing the blame game. Who is she? you don’t see me; our memories graved, wedding dreams delayed. Sighs, tears in my eyes; way too much pride to cry so I ride with the next bwoy that sya’s “hi”. I moved too soon and now you’re all baptized and brand new, seeing you with her makes me rue but my pride, my pride crawled back so I falled back.

Editor’s Note

My name is Dyandra Tulloch, a fourth year student

at the University of Technology, Ja. I am currently pursing a degree in Media Communication Arts and Techonology. I love the arts, it’s my passion; there are so many different ways to express one self. This is made availiable through mediums such as, Speech and Drama, Music Production, Dance, Visual Arts and so much more. I personally took a liking to Spoken Words; some may call them poems or consider it poetry but to me; it’s my zone, my get away, it’s my “bulla and pear”, it’s that brief moment I get to reconnect with my inner being. My goal is to write a book of poetry when I’ve gathered enough of my work to publish.This magazine was created to motivate you to chase your dreams until you catch them, find your happiness and share it with the world.

Who do you look up to? “There is nobody that I can pin point

How I got started ? “I got started in music by listening to a lot of

Then shortly after I started high school, me and a group of my friends would sit and write songs together and clash! or we’d write songs that were basically protesting against things like the raise in the lunch prices and stuff like that. However, 2012 is really when I started to take mucis seriously. Performance after performance and I got better and better at it”.

Your biggest acheivement?

Words of Advice “For any upcoming artistes out

there, love and respect the music. Always be willing to learn new things and work on your craft as much as possible”.

“My biggest acheivement thus far is going on tour. I

went to Europe and the UK, the purpose of the tour was for promote me and my music. That was a vibe... seeing that I haven’t left that island proior to going on tour. Music became the reason I travelled for the first time”.

Jean-Andre Lawrence JLL Production “Just go into it with an open mind. Know that the music you make at first might not be your best, but everytime you make something new ensure that you get better. Learn from any and everything and most importantly be patient”

Meet Jean-Andre Lawrence, a 22 year old self made music producer.

What started out as a bredren casually sharing a beat he made with him, transformed Lawrence into the founder and CEO of his own label; JLL Productions. During his high school years at Ardenne after that first listen Lawrence thought to himself “ hey, I could do something like this”.

Jean looked up to many different persons in the industry but Stephen McGregor was on the top of his list. He has always been a fan of his music, and so did his friends. This love for the the Big Ship team came as no surprise, seeing that McGregor made some of the greatest riddims known to dancehall to date; while he was still in high school.

This was deemed amazing in the eyes

of Jean-Andre and from then on he started to experiment with a digital audio workstation (DAW) called FL Studio. He made beats for any and everybody just for the fun of it. It was not until 2017 he began to notice his potential and look towards legitimizing his career.

one super star to the next; Jean-Ander has worked with top Reggae/ Dancehall power houses such as, Chronixx, Protoje, Masego and also one of Jamaica’s young talented firecracker Leno Banton.

Lawrence is making waves and there is

no stopping him. He said it himself “It’s pretty surreal, when I put out music there is no telling where it will end up or how it will be received; so hearing it out in the open I subtly feel I’ve etched myself into a percentage of Jamaica’s music history”.

Sean “Royal Blu” Francis. He was the one that allowed Jean-Andre to realize that his beats had much more potential than he initially thought. This is a good example of how creatives inspire each other to be great.

Still black, mellow and smooth, still sprinkled with spice, thick thighs for resistant slaps, her back still carries her bruise. Still a sensation to be felt, still a spilt grip away from observational melt. Still water brings brith, brings creation, brings life still pressed in honey as she drips with gold. Still lives unbothered because she knowâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s, you know, itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s known.

“Drawing feels like I’m creating

a new world, a new place to go or a new journey. It takes me to a different place within myself, the free and happier places but also colder and darker places, the places that most makes me uncomfortable. It gives me a space and time for introspection I suppose. It’s a break from real life and what’s around me; where I can really sit and work things out with myself”. Do you have any sentimental attachment to work?

“Yes, almost too much sometimes. Why did you choose art?

“Well I didn’t choose art, it sort

of choose me. I’ve always just been inclined to make things. There has been times in the past where I might have gotten frustrated for whatever reason and try to stop drawing; but one way or the other I would always find my way back to the arms of art. So right there and then I figured that probably this is really what I should be doing”.

My work is pretty personal to me and I put a lot of time and effort in my work. I see more and more growth in myself as an artist in every piece that I do so sometimes it’s a little difficult letting go of my work, even for a sale”.

What’s your favorite art piece?

“An art piece titled Sad Punk Gyal,

she’s my spirit animal if the animal was portrayed as a person. She’s very cool”.

When did you start drawing?

“I’ve been drawing from ever

since I could hold a pencil. But it was not until 2014 when I started working digitally and it’s been nothing but greatness since then”. What’s the feeling you get when you draw?

In the blink of an eye there spots another guy walking with shoulders wide too sweet for dark chocolate smooth caramel say’s “hi” But broken is me, forever giving energy to what my mind see’s you to be. That’s me, to be or not to be, questions float my emotions evoked, suddenly I’m being choked again and again by my past bones. Gasping for air, cringed, cruled, black roosted on sticks poking threw my cheeks, Rejected. He pulls his arms cock aimed at me vulnerable, weak and likely to yeild. His words grip my soul the gloss in his lips reflect a me that is fully cloth but very much exposed. Ripped apart his claws back stitched into my heart multiple scars, scarfs around my neck drags me closer to my emotional death. Mood - Dyandra Tulloch

Why Art?

“I choose art because I’d rather be doing

something I love than to be miserable in an office. Funny thing is; I almost did Law, like application and everything. When my parents found out that I no longer wanted to do Law, I expected a fight but they never did they actually supported me, I was shocked”.

When did you start drawing?

“In my Maths book during Math class; I

hate Maths. But for real I started drawing in the 2nd or 3rd grade at Alpha Prep School. Also George’s, the high school I went to facilitated my drive a lot; from the first year they noticed my talent and helped to foster my passion, all thanks to Mrs. Forbes Braham she trained me. I did things they do in first year of Edna (the school I’m current at) in first form”.

”Art gives you the freedom to express yourslef ” Any personal favorite?

“The street arts that I’ve done has the biggest

impact on me. Especially, this piece of work I did with Paint Jamaica on Flet Street. Also there was a partnership with Moda, Berdger and Benz and I got to do some work in Rorkfort”.

Who do you see yourself as?

“I

don’t like to box myself in labels like painter, illustrator, animator I do them all so I’m just Paige Taylor the artist”.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

“Music mostly to be honest, I listen to all types of music. I

also look up to Matthew MaCathy, a past graduate from Edna he’s work motivates me to do better than I did on the last pieces”.

The more we talk the more I cry still tears in my eyes as time past by. There are levels to our conversation but weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll never see eye to eye. Denial strickes back but you seem to be fine. I cared , I gave, you entered for days; entered and made a space nobody can replace. Thereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s always a issue with me moving too soon but to hell with what you think if you loosen my screws. Things fall apart but who the hell put them together? if ah nuh me and is not you nuh suh things stay a mess forever. But why ah me alone a cry, I can never understand why? i’m ASHLEY MILLER keep living intense

Who is Ashley Miller?

“I am a 25 year old entreprenur, using my

creativity as the main generator for all things that I pursue”. What influenced your pursuit to wire bending?

“I just always liked carnival and I always wanted to make my own costume so one year I just dived in and did that and it became a thing”.

Where do you see your company going?

“I want to see my brand represented

in as many carnivals around the world as possible”.

How did hosting came about?

“Hosting came about when I decided to

go to the Intense audition and ended up being selected out of 400 plus females”.

Do you see yourself being a host for a long term?

“I

just take life one day at a time. If in the future I’m still hosting then that’s where I’m supposed to be but if not then I’m sure I will be doing something just as fulfilling”. Photo by: Bradley Perkins
