Serenity Hotel Project

Main Floor Reception

The Serenity Hotel project was completely represented by hand sketched scenes rendered in ink and pencil. This was one of the fist projects completed without the use of rendering software. The greatest challenge of this project was being able to choose local materials that were acceptable in a commercial setting. Select furniture pieces were to be made with recycled and treated pine beetle kill wood. The wood floor mimics the look of the great redwood tree, which can be seen through out the entire province. The feature lighting at the reception desk gives off shadows in the shape of tree branches. Nooks in the walls of the rooms are used to display local artwork.

Vivace Music Academy

Listening Lab Perspective

The Vivace Music Academy design was inspired by the golden mean theory and the sea shell that represents it. The projects biggest challenge was being able to meet all of the requirements while still adhering to the space restrictions. Another challenge was keeping noise levels properly grouped to not disturbed those who needed quieter space. All of the challenges were met by the applying proper materials and finishes through out the entire space. The custom locker storage was created to save some space in the staff area. It combined lockers, mail distribution, and mobile pedestal storage for each teacher.

Equal Fit Apparel

Equal Fit Exterior

This project was a collaborative effort creating a retail space for NAIT business students assignment. The Equal Fit private gymnasium and apparel store was inspired by related words chosen by the client. The industrial grade rebar represents strength and the bright yellow accents represent the word fierce. The most challenging aspect of this design was the ability to showcase merchandise effectively in a small venue. this was met by creating custom visual storage options that were visually appealing to prospective customer.

Office Option 1

Office Option 2

Office Planning The purpose of this project was to challenge our space planning knowledge. The proposed client had many requirements for their future office space in the upper floor of a rectilinear building. Multiple options were needed to present to the client. These two options show cased an open concept and a more secluded concept. By creating a hallway and using partitions in option one the staff and public areas are slightly more secluded than the open concept in option 2.

Central Bar

“Carousel” Seater

Deluxe Burger Bar This was the proposed Deluxe Burger Bar for the new St. Albert location. It was a group project with three other students. The concept for the restaurant was Cirque De Soleil. This was chosen based off the interesting menu selection from the franchise. The images to the left are the final rendered perspectives chosen to give the client and the images to the right are hand rendered preliminary sketches. The centrally located bar was the most challenging aspect of this design. Storage and visibility being the biggest concern. Glass inserts were placed into the wall for better visibility from the host station and the wall was thickened to make space for inset glass storage. Underneath is storage drawers that go into the banquet seating behind.

Host Station

Deluxe Burger Bar The floor plan to the left was a working preliminary plan. Once critiques were done with the group the final outcome was decided. The semi circle central bar was created to make more room for tables and barrier free options. Color choices of warm brown and bright blue were used to bring the familiar Deluxe Burger Bar colors into the design. The large party booth seating mimics the semi circle style of the bar. This design included a coved ceiling with swirling LED lights and hanging pendants. The mirror in the back makes the space seem larger and is also angled so workers at the host station have better visibility behind the bar. The host station image shows one of the acoustical ceiling clouds used in the space.
