WHO WE ARE AMA was founded in 1966 as a state-wide trade association to represent and serve the rental housing industry through legislative, legal, and regulatory matters. The AMA provides services, products, educational programs, networking opportunities, and helps to promote ethical, quality rental housing throughout Arizona. Major AMA events include Trade Shows, Reverse Trade Shows, Tribute Awards, Golf Tournaments, Maintenance Manias, and Dinner Meetings in both Phoenix and Tucson. Two Memberships for One Price Membership and representation at the local, state, and national levels. AMA is the 5th largest affiliate of the National Apartment Association. When you join AMA, you automatically become a member in the NAA, giving you access to the NAA’s resources, like Click ‘N Lease, education classes and conferences. Members Using Members One of the benefits of Membership in the AMA is having a list at your fingertips of industry vendors who you can call to help you solve any problem. It is what Members Using Members (MUM) is all about. MUM also means you are promoted by the AMA staff to members seeking services. Member visibility happens through AMA communications to regular members, AMA materials that are sent to new members, on the AMA vendor directory, and when regular members call in looking for particular services or products. It is

the specter of rent control, the industry is being directly affected by a rapidly changing regulatory environment that is becoming increasingly hostile. Every day, one can’t open the paper without seeing another hit piece lambasting developers or slandering property managers. The AMA is funding this effort by growing its Better Government Fund (BGF). While the AMA surpassed our $1 million goal in late 2020, the Board is determined to grow the BGF and keep it above the $5 million mark, ensuring our war chest never runs empty at the time that it’s needed most. Because the Arizona rental housing industry requires market-

The BGF provides the organization with the resources necessary to combat legal, regulatory and legislative issues aimed at harming the apartment industry. The BGF funds supporting and advancing policies to strengthen the rental housing industry. This fund also allows AMA to independently support candidates and initiatives that align with its mission. An undersupply of housing units and increasing aggression by self-styled “tenants’ rights advocates” and reporters have created the conditions for California-style overregulation and rent control in Arizona. Rather than “hoping for the best,” the

AMA has made a strategic choice to proactively confront these challenges by growing the BGF. With 2022 dues payments due in January, AMA wants to reach out immediately to explain not just the financial commitment needed, but the “why” behind this need.

AMA has created a resource page at azmultihousing.org/bgf-resources.html for you to learn more about the negative national and state attacks on the industry, featuring a video from AMA’s leaders on the importance of the BGF.

Being nominated for Industry Partner of the Year was amazing. Knowing you are in a category with people you respect and admire makes it really humbling. To win an award of this type makes you work harder. I love this industry. To be recognized and able to share my passion of training, finding people jobs, serving on the AMA, and networking has really helped me find a purpose filled career at The Phoenix Staffing. It includes attending a variety of AMA events, one-on-one interviews with the Ambassador Chairman, and a commitment to maintain a high level of participation throughout the year. Upon completion, Ambassadors receive a certificate and an Ambassador name badge to identify them as they perform their many duties within the Association.

In 2015 the Arizona Multihousing Charitable Foundation created a scholarship fund to provide post-secondary educational funding for the employees of the AMA member companies in good standing, and their immediate family members. The AMA Board of Directors voted to

Housing Heroes Each and every day the members of AMA selflessly perform heroic acts that are making a positive impact in the world. AMA wants our members to know that we see all that you are doing in support of your communities; from small to grand initiatives, they all deserve to be celebrated. The Housing Heroes Hub showcases the positive impact the multihousing industry is making in their surrounding neighborhoods and the world at large. Here you’ll find statistics illustrating the positive impacts AMA members are making in their communities, a running list of the philanthropic campaigns our members support, resources for getting more involved in helping your communities, as well as a place for you to submit your companies own charitable efforts. AMA is so very proud to celebrate our industry’s Housing Heroes. The AMA Community Coalition program is a combined effort between the volunteer representatives from area properties, known as Coalition Coordinators, and the AMA. Meetings are scheduled over the lunch hour, and speakers are invited to share topics, issues, and resources that are relevant to community safety.
