Abstract Located in Hua Raw Sub-district, Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, Koh Loy is an urban community, established not so long ago, under the supervision of the Ayutthaya City Municipality. The settlement started around 80 years ago when people moved on land, from the nearby houseboats to the island. Since then, the island has been crowded with a lot of houses built in the area of the old and abandoned temples. As an island surrounded by the river and separated from the Ayutthaya City island Koh Loy is physically prominent while, at the same time, provides some difficulties for a living. The information about Koh Loy Community were gathered from the documents concerned together with the field works conducted during March to July, 2 0 1 5 by the 2011-school year students of the Community Development Program, Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Rajabhat University. The SWOT analysis and the ethnographical technique were chosen for investigating the potentiality of Koh Loy Community. It is found that Koh Loy Community has the outstanding characteristics which promote its potentiality. One is its location as an island surrounded by the river, providing gorgeous scenery and a peaceful way of life. There are also many interesting Ayutthaya historic sites on the island. The elders in the community are found to play the leader roles and can work well with the others. In case of the difficulties facing Koh Loy Community, it is found that there are no adequate dumpsites and appropriate ways for waste disposal there. Moreover, the historic sites in the community have been ruined without conservation and restoration, increasing the risk of more damage in the near future.
