AVDFC v Beaconsfield - 1st November 2022

Page 1

Good Evening All

Firstly I would like to extend a warm welcome to all Beaconsfield players, management and of course, supporters. We hope you enjoy your stay at Dynamos for this Berks & Bucks Senior Cup match.

It is fair to say the last few weeks have not gone to plan, losing out to Arlesey Town last Tuesday was hard to take. Also losing out 0 1 to Real Bedford on Saturday was tough as we created enough chances to get something from the match.

We are still determined to get the squad back on track and tonights game will give us the opportunity to test ourselves against a Step 3 team.

Squad news Josh Boorn has left for Marlow and Abu Khan has left for Thame United. We wish them all the luck in their new ventures.

Finally, we will be holding a minutes applause for Andy Stevens, who passed away last week. He has been in and around the club for years and the father of Ben Stevens, our former club Captain.

Aylesbury Vale Dynamos is an amalgamation of Aylesbury FC and Bedgrove Dynamos, two local clubs with a rich history in local football. Aylesbury FC enjoyed a long history in senior and junior football dating back to the 1930’s under the previous names of Aylesbury Vale, Haywood United, Belgrave, Stocklake and Negretti and Zambra FC, which was founded in the 1930’s by workers at the Negretti and Zambra company then based in London’s King Cross district. The company moved to the Stocklake Industrial Estate, Aylesbury. in 1949 and by the mid 50’s the premises had a bar, football, cricket and tennis facilities. The football club joined the Aylesbury District League in 1954. The social club changed its name to Stocklake when Negretti and Zambra sold the premises to the local council, who then leased the facilities; hence the different sections adopted the name Stocklake. Under the guidance of Chairman Mr Ernie Crotty, the club gained many honours including runners up in ADL’s top divisions, before gaining intermediate status in the Wycombe and District League first and senior divisions. Sadly Ernie was killed in a road accident just before the club moved premises to the present location at Haywood Way in 1987.

After gaining senior status and promotion to the Chiltern League in 1988, Stocklake enjoyed many further successes including Division One runners up in 1991, Premier Division and League Cup runners up the following season and Wycombe Senior Cup success in 1995. Cup success was also followed on in the following season, this time the Berks and Bucks Intermediate Cup being added to the trophy cabinet. Belgrave FC was formed in 1983 by Jim Sullivan who lived in nearby Belgrave Road. Jim had two sons who were passionate about football but were limited to where they could play, so formed a team himself with the help of neighbours Lynne and David Hatcher. By 1990, under the guidance of Danny Martone, Belgrave had grown to five youth teams providing football for over ninety boys from the Quarrendon and Haydon Hill areas of Aylesbury. 1996 saw the forming of two senior teams under the Belgrave FC name and by the turn of the millennium teams were represented at all levels from Under 8’s through to seniors,

At the start of the 2000/2001 season, the senior Belgrave FC team was renamed Haywood United following an amalgamation with Stocklake FC with Danny Martone voted in as chairman of the new club. Haywood United joined the Spartan South Midlands League and won promotion into Division One after two seasons. Notable achievements during the 2001/2002 season included league awards for the best kept and most improved ground; this included the erection of floodlights and perimeter fencing, which Danny and his hard working committee fought hard to establish. Season 2002/2003 saw a difficult start in Division One, but with the arrival of manager Jon Franklin and his assistant Keith Walker just after Christmas, the club eventually consolidated finishing in 9th place. Promotion was gained to the South Midlands Premier Division the following year after a campaign that saw 23 wins, 7 draws and only 4 losses. Haywood United proved themselves capable of staying in the Premier Division after finishing 3rd in the 2004/2005 season in a campaign that only include one loss in the twenty matches after Christmas. The club also entered the FA Cup and Vase for the first time and won the Buckingham Charity Cup in 2006.

Season 2006/2007 began with Haywood United becoming Aylesbury Vale FC and saw Keith Walker and Steve Gleinster take over as joint managers and steadily build a squad. This was recognised in the 2008/2009 season, under the management of Mark Eaton, with a good cup run in the FA Cup and FA Vase, winning three rounds in the FA Cup losing to Level 4 side Gosport after a replay, and losing out in the 4th round of the FA Vase to Leiston Town. . After Christmas the side suffered due to long term injuries and finished mid table. May 2009 saw a major new development in a new semi professional side vote for a name change. Aylesbury Football Club was formed under the leadership of Chairman Roger Dance and assisted by Vice Chairman Danny Martone

@ValeDynamos @AVDFCOfficial @avdfcsocial @AVDFCSocial @aylesburyvaledynamos.co.uk

Former Chairman Bill Harrison was made President of the club. Great success on the field of play was to follow, with the team having a fantastic run in the F.A. Cup. We were the last 'level five' team in the country to remain in the competition and were rewarded with a visit to Haywood Way for the F.A. Cup trophy, allowing the team, supporters and local people to get their hands on this famous trophy and make the most of this memorable occasion. We were finally knocked out of the competition by Wealdstone in a close game. A brave and superb display was witnessed by a bumper crowd of 800 plus.

Meanwhile, away from the midst of F.A. Cup drama, our success continued, becoming 'Double Winners' Winning both the Spartan South Midland League and League Cup capping an extraordinary season and gaining promotion to the Southern League Division 1 Central. Steve Bateman took over in 2013/14, steered the club to safety in his first 6 months in charge. Then in 2014/15 with Bateman at the helm FC has their most successful season to date most successful to date. Playing at the highest level in the club’s history, the team finished third in the League, having been pushing for promotion all season and narrowly lost out in the semi final to Bedworth United having already beaten them twice in the league. the 2015/16 finished with a flourish as the club finished just outside the play off positions, but had the consolation of our first major Cup Final, beating Chesham United in the Berks & Bucks Cup at Windsor. Steve Bateman and his management team resigned at the end of the season and Danny Gordon & Gareth Risbridger took the helm , supported by Paul Bonham , Ryan Wiffin & Aaron Norman. Davis Haule took over from Gordon & Risbridger in December 2016, appointed brother Brian as his assistant and recruited former coaches Fraser McLachlan, Aaron Wiffin and added Ryan Collings to his back room staff for the 2017/18 season. In 2018/19 Scott Reynolds was appointed manager and when he resigned midway through the season it was left to Paul Bonham to take control but because of ground grading issues the Southern League made the decision to relegate the club and so after ten seasons in the Southern League. Phil Granville and Ben Gill were appointed midway through last season and will kick off the 2020/21 season again in the Spartan Premier Division. Steve Bateman was re appointed as manager in September 2021 and replaced summer 2022 by Michael East & Liam Dwyer

Alf Buckland, a resident of Finmere Crescent, formed Bedgrove Dynamos in 1968. It was created to fill a void in activities for boys within the Bedgrove area on the south side of Aylesbury. In 1980, Dave Bayliss became involved when he brought his Cub side to the Bedgrove Park. The teams amalgamated and Dave went on to be the chairman for 21 years, stepping down in the year 2000. Within two years and barely a full strip between them, they managed not only to win the Under 12's Aylesbury & District League (ADL), but went on to win the 13's & 14's league in consecutive years and, by which time, they now had four teams at various age groups.

Over the years the club has grown and has won many tournaments and trophies, especially at county level. Many teams have toured abroad and the club has also entertained boys from Europe and America. We can boost that we are the only boys club to have a club pennant on display in Barcelona's trophy room.

At the start of the season 2001/02 the club was the largest junior club in the Aylesbury area, running teams from under 8's through to under 18's. At the end of the season 2001/02 the club managed to win the coveted Berks and Bucks Cup at under 14's, the Mayor's Cup at under 12's, represented in two other cup finals, won 3 league titles, gained 6 promotions in total and all teams finished in the top 6 to the fairplay awards for their respective leagues. In the last 20 seasons across the age groups the club has won 25 divisional titles, and runners up 20 times.

In 2019 two became one when the sides amalgamated with the intention of allowing the youth of the town to progress through junior football to youth and then adult football and play at the highest possible level.

Bedgrove Dynamos

Andy Stevens

Andy was a part of the club for many years. From coaching in the Belgrave FC days to being an integral figure in laying the foundations at Haywood Way that has allowed the club to grow into what it is today. Andy held the position of Groundsman for many years, dedicated to his role. He always had a way of making something work with limited resources and materialsa lot of what you see around the ground Andy would have played a huge part in. Andy was outspoken, fun to be around, and was a character at Haywood Way few would forget once they had met him. Andy would be the first to offer help, and never asked for anything in return.A couple of budweisers on a sunny afternoon was more than enough. He would always say that the sunrise was the best part of the day, and often you would find him down at Haywood Way doing ground works as soon as the sun came up. The whole Stevens family has been a part of the club from day dot. Gill, Andys wife, played a huge part in the administration side of things. Both Andy's sons Ben and Lewis have played at Haywood Way with Ben being club captain for a number of years. And his daughter Leanne has helped in many roles across the years from getting behind the bar, to helping on match days. After a decline in healthAndy was unable to spend much time at the club but it was always a pleasure to see him and Gill pop down on a Sunday afternoon for a cheeky beverage. The club will always be grateful for Andys tireless work and dedication. He will be missed by many. Our thoughts are with the whole Stevens family at this time.

After 3 losses on the bounce, Dynamos wanted a reaction, also, with a number of player unavailable due to holidays or injuries, Easty & Liam made a number of changes to the starting line up. Also, 2 players had left the team during the week. Boorn going to Marlow and Abu Khan being snapped up by Thame United. It was a slightly cagey start by both team, however Dynamos created the first decent opportunity as Loakes floated in a cross to Lawford at the back post, he headed back to Wood who had his shot well blocked. Bedford then went down the other end and had a similar move which Griffiths managed to defend well. Wood and Prince then combined well with the latter having his shot blocked by their defender.

In the 9th minute Wood raced back to help out defensively but lost possession inside his own box, the Bedford player squared the ball and their attacker slotted the ball past Zammit. 0 1 Bedford.

Almost 20 minutes and Bedford should have made it two goals, however, Zammit made a decent save down to his right.

Ianelli was then called into action twice in quick succession, firstly timing his sliding tackle perfectly and winning the ball…moments later, he tugged on a Bedford shirt to receive a yellow card. 29 minutes and Prince went on a trademark mazy run down the wing, pulled the ball back and Lawford hit his shot well but the defender blocked it.

37 minutes and Bedford should have been 2 up. A great cross was met with a firm header but Zammit managed to claw it away for a corner. The corner was cleared by Rosner.

A couple of minutes later Dynamos created a decent opportunity. Jet Dyer went on a great run down the left flank, forcing a corner. Lawford, on corner duties, swung the ball in and Ianelli rose highest to head goal bound, but the keeper saved well. Griffiths then crunched into a tackle in the centre of the park, getting a yellow card for his troubles. The final moments of the first half saw Bedford squander their best chance of the match. A ball into the middle found their player 8 yards out but he somehow ballooned his shot over the bar.

Half time: Dynamos 0 1 Real Bedford Dynamos came out strong in the second half, creating an early chance when Loakes hit a cross and Lawford connected well, but the keeper saved. 50 minutes and a cross from Lawford was met well by Rosener, 5 yards out, but went over the bar. Just before the hour mark was up, Ianelli made a tackle which the Bedford players took exception to, the referee didn’t agree and only called a foul…no second yellow…phew. Fabian Garcia was on for Loakes seconds later as Easty & Liam tried to freshen things up, moving Deall into the midfield and Garcia at right back. Deall was straight into the action in his higher position, setting up Ianelli who hit a lovely volley inches over the bar.

AVDFC 0 1 Real Bedford Team: George Zammit; Rio Deall, Jet Dyer, Max Rosner, Terry Griffiths; Antonio Ianelli, Tom Kennard, Sam Wood, Prince Nimoh, Harry Loakes; Ollie Lawford Subs: Fabian Garcia, Jack McKenzie, Marcus Rivers, Luke Nugent, Jack Aldridge

67 minutes and Bedford were a couple of centimetres away from doubling their lead. Their player curled an effort over Zammit but the ball hit the post and it fell kindly to Dyer who thumped it away. Jack McKenzie replaced Sam Wood with 20 minutes left to go and he set up Rio within a couple of minutes who fizzed his shot wide of the far post. Former Dynamo, Kev Owusu, then hit a 30 yarder which was not too far wide, but Zammit would have saved it…!

Deall then got Dynamos 3rd Yellow card for an innocuous challenge. The resulting free kick was headed away comfortably by Rosner. 84 minutes and another Yellow…this time Fabian getting it…followed by McKenzie floating a cross which Prince headed straight at the keeper from close range. Marcus Rivers, back from his loan move to Oxhey Jets, cam on for Kennard in the final few minutes, also Nugent made a cameo appearance as Jet Dyer took a knock. Into injury time and Rosner pushed forward, playing a lovely through ball to Prince. He had a 1 on 1 with the keeper…score and it would be a penalty shoot out….however, he toe poked the ball wide of the target.

Final Score

Missing Max Mayer and Loui Bowman, on the usual excellent Creasey Park surface we managed to put on our worst display against a well coached enthusiastic home team.

For the 20 mins despite instructions to the contrary we were taking too many touches, not display enough quality in the passing and a failure to protect the back 4 resulted in a couple of chances repelled by keeping by Peter Letts and a couple of last-ditch tackles by Prince Will and Callum Bailey. We also missed a couple of good opportunities before a strike from the edge of the area on 27 mins by Tafara Dube gave us the lead. We looked a bit more comfortable till in the 44 th minute a defender fell asleep at a free kick which resulted in a not undeserved equaliser.

The second period was far better without really being too convincing but after some tidy play reassured in a neat finish from Kris Collier on 69 mins regained the lead and for the remains time we created a couple of decent chances and restricted Dunstable.

The general impression was of a lacklustre team performance but importantly the result went our way.

Though formed as recently as the summer of 2017 the roots of Beaconsfield Town FC stem from Beaconsfield SYCOB which was founded in 1994 following a merger between Beaconsfield United and Slough Youth Centre Old Boys (hence the “SYCOB” in the Clubs name).

United dated back to 1921 and were themselves a coming together of two local teams whilst Slough Youth Centre formed their first football team in 1938. With Slough Youth Centre Old Boys unable to progress due to a lack of ground provisions and United themselves struggling on and off the field at the time the decision was taken to amalgamate the two clubs and so Beaconsfield SYCOB was born. Initially playing in the London Spartan Premier Division, and with Fred Deanus as Chairman, Beaconsfield SYCOB chalked up a series of Top Five finishes before finally winning the league in 2000 / 01 under the guidance of Simon Delahunty. However they were refused promotion to the Isthmian League due to some harsh technicalities over the terms of their lease. A further three seasons were spent in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division before Beaconsfield SYCOB again won the league in 2003 / 04 and this time gained promotion to the Southern Football League (Division One East).

The Rams made solid progress in their early years at Step 4 and over three seasons played in three different leagues – Division 1 East, Division 1 West and finally Division 1 South & West from where they were relegated in 2006 / 07. However the appointment of ex player Jamie Jarvis, ably assisted by Peter Scott, saw The Rams not only win the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division at the first attempt but also win the Berks & Bucks FA Senior Trophy and the Premier Division League Cup, a fantastic treble of silverware. Promoted to Division 1 South & West, the club finished a highly creditable fourth place and made the Play Offs before losing out to AFC Totton. Moving to the Southern League Midland Division for 2009 / 10, Beaconsfield SYCOB then went through a succession of managers, players, highs and lows until finishing in bottom place in 2010 / 11. Only a reprieve and a league restructure saved The Rams from the drop but since then they have gone on to over achieve for a club of its size. Under the guidance of Byron Walton they finished fifth in the 2011 12 season and lost out in the Play Off Final to Bedworth United. The following season and with James Pritchard at the helm they again finished fifth but lost out to Rugby Town in a Play Off Semi Final though the season did end with some silverware following a fine win over Chesham United in the Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup.

2013 14 saw Gary Meakin take over as manager just five days before the start of the season and with only five players on the clubs books to finish 8th and reach the Quarter Finals of the League Cup was a fine achievement as was a runner up spot in the Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup, Chesham United gaining revenge for defeat twelve months earlier. The 2014 15 season saw a partnership with the FAB Academy who provided the bulk of the teams players under the stewardship of Andy Hurley and Nas Bashir. That partnership continued into 2015 16 season with Geoff Warner as manager as The Rams finished in a respectable ninth place whilst the 2016 17 season saw them under joint managers Andy Hurley and Leigh Wooldridge and ended with a 16 th place league finish though a run to the Fourth Qualifying Round of the F.A. Cup was a “Best Ever” for SYCOB. The 2017 18 season saw the return of Gary Meakin as the first manager of the newly named Beaconsfield Town, with Chris Coyle as Chairman. The Rams had virtually a whole new team and, helped by an amazing away record, they kept in touch with the League pacesetters to finally gain top spot on the last day of the season and claim the Evo Stik League South, East title. Competing at Level 3 for the first time in their history in the newly formed Evo Stik League South Premier South division, The Rams achieved a highly credible 12 th place finish as well as reaching the First Round of the F.A. Trophy for the first time in their history, losing out to eventual finalists Leyton Orient. The truncated 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons saw plenty going on off the field as the club expanded with the establishing of an Academy as well as Under 23 / 18 / 17 and 16 teams and plans in place to add further age group sides as well as a Ladies team. A brand new 3G playing surface was commissioned over the summer of 2021 as The Rams look to build for the future both on and off the pitch. Come On You Rams!
