Free Public Tours of City Hall and Police and Fire Headquarters

Get Ready for San Marcos’ annual “Because I Care” Community Resource Fair

Did you know the City of Escondido offers free guided tours of the award- winning City Hall and the Police and Fire Headquarters buildings? Both tours are a great way to learn more about city government operations, as well as some fun facts about the City’s history.

The next tour will be held on October 4, 2012 and will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the City Hall lobby, 201 N. Broadway. The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes. No reservations are required. However, school groups wishing to tour City Hall may arrange to do so by contacting the Community Services Department at 760-8394691.

Rancho Bernardo • Mayor Jerry Sanders Last week, I was excited to announce that the internationally renowned Brookings Institution has selected San Diego to participate in its first Metropolitan Export Exchange program. This program was developed to help regional leaders create and implement strategic action plans to increase exports, thus accelerating economic growth and job creation. The Metropolitan Export Initiative is part of the BrookingsRockefeller Project on State and Metropolitan Innovation, a national effort to catalyze and showcase

leading-edge practices to boost the nation’s transition to the next economy.

Hobie: Shaping a Culture H o b i e : Shaping a Culture is a major retrospective exhibit on legendary surf pioneer Hobie Alter that will be opening in October at the California Surf Museum.

San Diego’s selection is an acknowledgement of our tremendous opportunity to create good jobs by focusing on exports. I am proud we were selected and I look forward to collaborating with the Institution and our partners to launch a plan that will benefit the entire region.

Fair activities include healthy living educational workshops, free blood pressure screening, free dental screening, “meet the pharmacist,” and local vendor booths. The day features two free events at neighboring locations — the annual San Marcos Fire Department Open House, Fire Station #1, 180 West Mission Road and the Senior Center Health Fair at the Senior Center, 111 Richmar Avenue.

Prevention Week will include activities for all ages like station tours, fingerprinting, firefighting demonstrations and a firefighters’ barbeque. Guests will learn about fire safety and emergency preparedness.
