Brandon Lake, 20, is probably lucky he’s in Vista jail rather than on an autopsy table.

Lake was arrested by Oceanside police after he had rammed an Oceanside police car twice and had tried, on a third attempt, to hit the police officer who had now exited his vehicle.

to Vista jail where he was booked on charges including felony reckless evading, assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer and an assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $50,000.

Later, two different officers spotted the same vehicle and gave chase, trying to pull it over. It crashed into a fence near Alvarado and California streets. The driver exited the vehicle and ran away but was soon caught by the two officers. At that time, 20 year old Brandon Lake was placed under arrest and transported

no more.

But never fear, it is about to be re-born with a new name and look. The name? Pegah’s Kitchen. The look?

Man About Town

We had lunch with Donna Davis, Jerry Fisher, and Evelyn Madison at Ray Alto’s Jalapeno Grill and Cantina . . . which seems to be becoming my office away from home. I told Ray if I came to his eatery any more often he was gonna have to put me on the payroll.

As usual, great food, and always great conversation with Donna Davis, a top real estate go-getter, and Jerry, both of whom are on top of the mobile home industry and aware of some of the problems inherent to that industry. Could be some exciting things coming up on the horizon. Remember the old San Marcos Family Restaurant at 576 E. Mission? Well, it will soon be

Thief Steals English Bull Dog

The officer, fearing for his life, fired three times at the oncoming vehicle. He missed hitting the driver with all three shots but it was sufficient to scare the driver off and he fled.

The name comes from the daughter of Fred and Sara Soleimani, the new owners of the restaurant. They have years of experience in the food service profession, coming from Kansas City, Kansas, where the operated a successful restaurant business.

I’ve eaten there several times under the new ownership and found the menu to be well planned and priced and the service to be excellent. They’ve redecorated the entire restaurant, giving a fresh, new, clean look to the place.

For a really interesting account of Force Recon in Vietnam, I suggest "Force Recon Command" by Alex Lee. Lee is a retired Lt. Col. who commanded 3rd Force Recon in Vietnam. You mentioned General Davis. He retired as a Four Star General, Asst. Commandant of the Marine Corps. His decorations included the Medal of Honor, the Navy Cross and the Silver Star. I knew Jim Steal while we were in the Marine Corps. We attended Communication Officer School in 1965. We also served at III MAF Headquarters in Vietnam in 1969. I think Jim had several tours in Force Recon.

For years this was the gathering place for the ‘movers and shakers’ of San Marcos. I remember former San Marcos M a y o r C o r k y Smith used to hold court here a l m o s t daily.

Lots of old t i m e r s pleasantly surprised at the new look and feel of the new restaurant and they love the new owners . . . very friendly and outgoing . . . plus, they know their business. Stop by and visit the new place, Pegah’s Kitchen. Chances are pretty good you’ll find me there as well. ••••• Stoped in at yet another popular eatery last week, O’Sullivans, in downtown Escondido at 118 E. Grand. As luck would have it, they were mighty busy with lights, camera and action everywhere. Dennis O’Sullivan, the owner of the restaurant told me he

I got a good laugh at Arpaio's quote in your recent Daily Chuckle section, but not for the reason it was intended to. I am not a liberal, but I do know a straw man when I see one. Arpaio's characterization of liberal ideals is inaccurate and funny only because of its astonishing ignorance. I guess that to Joe, if you can't beat liberals with the facts, you just have to make up your own facts and lie about what liberals actually believe in. Arpaio's liberal bashing, and your willingness to print it, makes sane conservatives like myself look bad. Making up lies about the other side doesn't aid public discourse, nor does it help us find real solutions. Nor do you need to publish rambling and factually inaccurate letters like the one from Mary Calgaro. I enjoy reading the opinions of other people, no matter how much I disagree with them, but when you publish a letter fueled by ignorance fear instead of facts, it reflects poorly upon your

had arranged for a New York film crew to film parts of a movie, using O’Sullivan’s as the background pub.

Dennis O’Sullivan, above, is a very successful Workman’s Compensation Attorney who decided to get into the restaurant/pub business and has been equally successful with those endeavors. He also owns O’Sullivans in Carlsbad, at 640 Grand Ave. I’ve written here before about the fantastic food at O’Sullivans, how the Rasher and Cheese Boxty lunch is out of this world.

We’ll have a larger profile on O’Sullivans soon. Lots of great news (and food items) on which to report. Stat tuned. More to come!
