The magazine you’re holding involves a lot of firsts. It’s the first Annual Issue, it’s the debut of a brand-new name and it also has a different layout. So some explanations are in order. First, the AWA board decided our magazine should go digital. All of the issues will be Tori Nelson available online with one issue Editor printed annually in September, to be more environmentallyfriendly and revenue-conscious. We also wanted to take the opportunity to change the name of the magazine, to something simpler and easier to understand. As for the layout, instead of promoting specific activities from the last month or coming up in the next month, this annual issue highlights all of our wonderful groups, which are really the heart and soul of the AWA. There so many things to do, you could stay busy every day of the week! As you will see on the following pages, no matter what your interests or talent, there is an AWA group for just about everyone. And not only is it a great way to improve existing skills or try a new hobby, it’s also a marvelous way to meet new friends and get the most out of your time here in Singapore. You’ll find descriptions of our major AWA events held throughout the year, from the Fashion Show to the Holiday Lunch to Night at the Races and more. There’s an excellent summary of the 85-year history of the AWA, along with opportunities to volunteer both within the organization and out in the community. We still have our terrific columns written by AWA members, including a three-day itinerary to explore Singapore, how to eat and drink like a local, top 10 family fun adventures, and most importantly how to settle in and deal with the inevitable emotional ups and downs of being an expat. We hope you enjoy this special debut Annual Issue as much as our team enjoyed putting it all together.
