Francesco Caruso Director ADM Capital Foundation
Francesco is the Director of the Hong Kong Based ADM Capital Foundation Children at Risk Program. Before joining ADM Capital Foundation, Francesco – an Italian national - lived for five years in Cambodia where he co-founded M'Lop Tapang, a project for street children that currently employs 160 Khmer staff and reaches over 3,000 children with a budget this year of US$1,000,000. During the course of his work with M'Lop Tapang, Francesco was responsible for financial oversight, fundraising, overall strategy and supervised building projects for the organization. Since 2004, Francesco additionally supports (as a member of the Board or as an Adviser) several American and European private and public foundations facilitating and monitoring charitable investment of over US$12,000,000 to date. Those funds have helped over 150,000 children and youth in India, Bangladesh, Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand and Laos. Previous to his work with non-profit institutions, Francesco worked for six years in banking in North America and Europe. He holds an LLM degree (International and EU law) and a Masters Degree in Development.
Simon Chadwick Chief Executive Officer Asian Venture Philanthropy Network
Simon is Chief Executive Officer at the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN). He was previously a partner at a global private equity fund placement group and founded his own private equity advisory firm. Before that he worked for the Schroder Group for 12 years in a range of marketing, business development and management roles. He worked on a pro bono basis at Impetus Trust in 2005 and has previously lived and worked in Asia for 8 years. He has an MBA from IMD, an MA from SOAS (University of London) and an MA from Oxford University.
Ken Ito Japan Advisor Asian Venture Philanthropy Network
Ken works for AVPN as Japan Advisor. He has a bachelor degree in economics and MBA from The American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird). Ken spent ten years in the private sector, with his last position at GE Capital and subsequently joined the Institute for Strategic Leadership (ISL). Ken has been a partner at Social Venture Partners Tokyo since 2005, running its venture philanthropy program and is visiting senior researcher at SFC Research Institute at Keio University since 2007. He also teaches at the Graduate School of Media and Governance, Keio University as Assistant Professor.
Haruo Miyagi Executive Director ETIC.
Haruo is the founding Executive Director of ETIC. ETIC is a non-profit organization which aims to build communities with entrepreneurship through organizing training and internship programs on entrepreneurship as well as providing incubation support for start-up social entrepreneurs. In 1993, while a student of Waseda University, he established a network organization for student entrepreneurs. In 2001 he established “ETIC - Social Venture Center” and he held the first business plan competition for social venture “STYLE” in Japan, with the goal of fostering and supporting many social entrepreneurs. “STYLE” has been held from 2002 to 2007. ETIC has network of more than 150 entrepreneurs both in business and social enterprises from its 2500 graduates of their training and internship programs. ETIC was recently selected as a partner organization for the social business incubation program led by the cabinet office of the Japanese government. Haruo holds a BA degree from Waseda University.
Hiroshi Nonomiya Managing Director RHJ International
Hiroshi joined RHJ International Japan as of March 31, 2005 in Tokyo. Hiroshi joined Ripplewood’s New York office in 1996 and transferred to Tokyo in 1999. Prior to joining Ripplewood, he was an Assistant General Manager of the Merchant Banking Department at Mitsubishi Corporation in Tokyo from 1994 to 1996. From 1991 to 1994, Hiroshi was a Managing Director of MCF Financial Services Limited (London), a corporate finance subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation, where he led assignments including cross-border mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, divestitures, financings, strategic alliances between Japanese and European businesses and privatizations in Central Europe. From 1986 to 1990, he was with Mitsubishi Euro-Africa S.A. (London) as an Investment Manager responsible for implementation of credit and investment policies in Europe and Africa. Hiroshi started his career with Mitsubishi in 1974 with the Iron Ore Department, where he was responsible for projects in Australia and Africa. Hiroshi is currently the member of the Board of Phoenix Resort KK, Shaklee Global Group. Hiroshi has a B.A. in Liberal Arts Culture from Tokyo University and an M.B.A. from INSEAD in France. Hiroshi is a member of National Council Japan of INSEAD and a President of INSEAD Alumni Association Japan
Shruti Sehra Partner New Profit Inc.
As a Partner at New Profit, Shruti leads critical elements of portfolio management for the core New Profit Fund, including ensuring organizations are receiving the support and resources they need both from New Profit and from the Monitor Group through pro-bono strategic engagements. She also leads efforts to measure, evaluate, and report aggregate and organization-specific performance. In addition to her internal management responsibilities, Shruti serves as a portfolio manager for Stand for Children and BUILD, supporting their efforts to create and execute against aggressive plans to accelerate their impact. Shruti joined New Profit in 2006 after finishing a joint MBA/MPA. Prior to graduate school, she managed a campaign for State Assembly in California while starting up a non-profit organization dedicated to helping critically ill workers. Before that, she spent seven years working in the private sector, initially as an engineer at Honeywell, an aerospace engine manufacturer, and later in a series of quality management positions at Howmet Castings, an aerospace casting manufacturer, and Jabil Circuit, an electronics manufacturing services company. Shruti holds an SB in Chemistry from MIT, an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, and an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School.
Nat Sloane Co-founder and Vice-chair Impetus Trust
Nat Sloane is the co-founder of Impetus Trust, the pioneer of venture philanthropy in the UK. A successful entrepreneur, venture capitalist, management consultant and social investor, he brings a wealth of experience to the role. Prior to Impetus, Nat was a partner in Accenture, where he also chaired their UK charitable foundation, and was vice chairman of Crime Concern. He is currently the England Committee Chair of the Big Lottery Fund, an independent member of the Bridges Social Enterprise Fund investment Committee and a member of the Social Finance Social Impact Advisory Board. Nat has established three private businesses in the UK and the US.
Daisuke Takatsuki Director Carlyle Group
Daisuke Takatsuki is a Director of the Carlyle Group, focused on Japanese private equity opportunities. Mr. Takatsuki has been actively involved in a number of the firm’s investments, including WILLCOM, Inc., Intelligence Ltd (previously Gakusei Engokai), and Covalent Materials Corporation (previously Toshiba Ceramics). He is based in Tokyo. Prior to joining Carlyle in 2002, Mr. Takatsuki worked at the Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund and the Ministry of Finance Japan (on secondment), providing financial assistance to developing countries throughout the world. Mr. Takatsuki received his M.B.A. from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. He also received an LL.B. from the University of Tokyo. He is a Scott M. Johnson Fellow of the United-States Japan Foundation. Mr. Takatsuki served on the Board of Directors of WILLCOM, Inc., Gakusei Engokai, and Covalent Materials Corporation. He is a founding partner of Social Venture Partners Tokyo, and has been involved in a number of social venture organization. He also serves on the board of Florence, an NPO specialized in nursing care for sick children.
