Once the bustling business and social centre of the district, Wannamal is the most north-western locality within the Shire of Chittering. A self-guided Heritage Walk is dedicated to the pioneer men and women who toiled hard to establish the farming land. Dining Out and Staying Over
Whilst in Chittering there are several accommodation and eatery options. Overnight stay choices include caravan, camping, chalets, farm stay and bed ‘n’ breakfast. You can enjoy classic country pub grub, bakehaus goodies or spoil yourself at a restaurant / winery. Alternatively drop into one of the roadhouses, Clune Park is perfect for picnicking and a casual lakeside stroll.

Stunning seasons
If you enjoy gorgeous scenery you will delight in Goomalling’s changing seasons. The patterned paddocks during seeding time (April – July) make a pretty patchwork bordered by native vegetation reserves and country roads. The lush green vistas of winter are highlighted with bursts of wildflowers from July till September. Just before harvest the landscape is a rich tapestry of colour – bold yellow canola alongside striking green pastures and crops, the jewel-like colours contrasting with the blue sky on the wide horizon. After harvest, the summer months bring Goomalling an array of gold, ochre, red and

Goomalling is proud to say that the modern units and other facilities at the Goomalling Caravan Park are regarded by many travellers as the best they’ve experienced in rural Australia. The Goomalling Caravan Park is set amongst York and Salmon Gum bushland within walking distance of the shops. Get together with caravanning friends at the modern camp kitchen and, during the summer months, take advantage of the park’s proximity to the Goomalling Swimming Pool.

This escape proved the first of many for Joe, including a sensational breakout from Fremantle Prison. Today the town holds the annual Moondyne Festival which includes a re-enactment of his escape. Newcastle Gaol Museum
The Newcastle Gaol was built in the 1862 using convict labour and has recently undergone extensive restoration and renovation. Newcastle Gaol presents Toodyay’s history throughout the cells and living quarters of the 19th century prison and police stables. Connor’s Mill
Built for the Irish ex-convict Daniel Connor 1870, Connor’s Mill towers above Stirling Terrace. The building originally served as a steam driven flour mill and was later used as a power station. Today the Mill serves as a public museum, displaying working milling machinery that demonstrates how the early steam-milling process produced flour. One highlight of this beautifully restored building is the generator on the ground floor, which once served London in the Blitz and now serves as the engine that drives the mill. The recently refurbished uppermost floor of Connor’s Mill is dedicated to the agricultural history of the Avon region. Walk Trails
