Figs Growers Gafni's Farm I was born in Argentina, Said Gafni "Though my Family immigrated to Israel when I was an infant and most of my youth I spent in several south American countries wondaring from Brazil to Guatemala" finally i returned to Israel to join the Army. Gafni's first Job was in computer programing but his passion was farming. "To pursue my dream" he said, "I convinced my wife Niza to Join me to an adventure in the desert. In 1971, we found our luck in the Jordan valley". A Harsh land with challenging weather but with hard labor and determination Gafni exceled in farming. Intensively growing greenhouse vegetables and table grapes, and with the help of Vulcan institute he learned all there is to know about fig production.
Gafni still invests a lot in exploring cultivation method, varities and agro technical innovations.

"we came to build an oasis in the northern part of the Dead Sea overlooking the city of Jericho. both Gary his wife Iris and their 3 children made it their home in 1989. The farm is mainly export oriented focusing on Figs, Dates, and table grapes. The last few years Haim and Sylvie succeeded in "introducing" the Aragan tree to Israel. Not only does it grow here, it produces the best oil quality and quantity wise. So much so that it became one of the biggest attractions in the region drawing many visitors from all over the world.

Figs Facts interesting facts about figs Figs are originally from Asia and are one of the first fruits ever cultivated. The Greek's mentioned them in around 60 A.C and Plato promoted the fig as being the main nutrition for athletes. A story is known of the Greek Government that had forbidden all export of figs to assure themselves a good outcome at the Olympic Games. At that time there where approx. 29 varieties of figs that were known to the Greeks. Officially figs were imported to Europe around 1600. Today there are more than 600 different varieties of figs. The white liquid that drips out of the fruit is the stalk has been broken, is called latex. Each fig cultivar has different shaped leaves.

Figs Recipe Pickled Fig, Robiola & Pistachio Oil Crostini Ingredients
Preparation
MAKES 12 SERVINGS
Combine red wine vinegar, sugar, and dried figs with 1/4 cup water in a saucepan; bring to a simmer. Remove from heat and let sit until figs soften, about 30 minutes.
12 slices ciabatta bread 1/2 cup red wine vinegar 2 tablespoons sugar 6 dried figs 2 tablespoons pistachios, toasted and shelled 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil Robiola cheese
Halve figs lengthwise. (Alternatively, use 6 fresh figs and halve lengthwise.) Finely crush pistachios and combine with extra-virgin olive oil. Grill bread slices. Smear room-temperature Robiola cheese onto warm toasts. Top with halved figs. Drizzle with pistachio oil.

In the warehouse shipments are palletized on to air pallets to be shipped directly to the cargo terminal, untouched, loaded into the airplane. Aviv has its own facility in Flora Holland, mainly for flower commerce, also to be used in service for fresh produce as a distribution center to different locations in the EU. At the same time, Aviv Ships by direct flights to any destination in the world.
