Two of Andersonville’s last remaining Swedish establishments, Simon’s (est. 1934) and Svea (est. 1924) were amongst the hardest hit during the pandemic. Owner Scott Martin reflects that the empty bar and restaurant felt “so quiet and lonely” without their usual patrons, but the forced break allowed for much needed updates to both locations: new floors for Simon’s and a new stove for Svea. He is so grateful for the unyielding support of the Andersonville neighborhood, from those that lined up during the holidays for Simon’s bottled Swedish Glögg or gathered safely on the back patio, to those that now frequent Svea once again for traditional Swedish pancakes and more. Both locations are quintessential Andersonville, and Scott can’t wait to see them bustling once again.
