How it’s Changing the Manufacturing Landscape in Aviation

Industry 4.0 leverages digital communication technologies (IoT, connected devices) and advanced manufacturing technologies (such as automation, robotics, and closed door machining) to create a fully integrated environment. These technologies have quickly become essential tools for all manufacturers in aerospace and defense. Dave Parry will present perspectives about the benefits of Industry 4.0 on companies and the industry, challenges of modifying traditional manufacturing and production systems to Industry 4.0 standards, and ways Pratt & Whitney is driving operational excellence and best practices across the company. Agenda 10:45am Addressing A&D Labor Shortages and

1:00pm

Setting the Stage for i4.0

One of the major impacts of the pandemic was an exacerbation of an already tight and challenged labor market in Aerospace and Defense. This is happening at the same time as a general acceptance of the need to use greater technology in manufacturing processes going forward. The adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies will not solve the labor problem. Concurrent to the technology efforts, it is also necessary to reinvest in process fundamentals to prepare the organization for the future. This involves greater demand management, incorporating changes to work more efficiently, and finding the appropriate match between skills and job functions. Only by setting the stage appropriately from a labor context will companies be able to get the expected payback from their i4.0 investments. Eric Logan, Principal - Strategy; Operations CoE Lead, KPMG 11:05am Panel: The Labor Market

A discussion on the skilled labor shortage and addressing the resulting lead-time predictability. Moderator: John A. Pilla, Senior Technical Advisor, Patriot Industrial Partners Shannon Bernhardt, Site Manager, Michelin North America - Aircraft Tires Shawn Campbell, VP, Assembly & Supply Chain, Orizon Aero Eric A. Logan, Principal - Strategy; Operations CoE Lead, KPMG 11:50am Flying Ships – The Future of Maritime

Transportation

Bill Peterson, Chief Executive Officer, Flying Ship Technologies, Corp. 12:20pm Panel: IOT

A discussion and project vision on what’s next in A&D manufacturing. Moderator: Clinton Proctor, Manager, Private Equity Performance Improvement, Alvarez and Marsal Siva Balasubramanian, VP of Factory Support and Digital Transformation, Spirit AeroSystems, Inc.
