16-year-old designer Courtney Allegra outfits the stars Sixteen-year-old fashion designer, Courtney Allegra garnered buzz when she unveiled her eponymous ready to wear collection for Spring/Summer 2013. The young designer’s strong sense of personal style, edgy designs and charisma positions her as a strong force in the fashion industry. Designing since the age of twelve, Courtney Allegra’s drive to excel blossomed as she turned her passion into a business when she began to produce her designs. Inspired by her travels to Europe, the Courtney Allegra collection captures the fresh style of the young trendsetting locals in Paris and London. Their sophisticated street style is emulated in the intricately designed zippered tail coat, which when unzipped transforms into a short jacket with a statement leather collar, inspired by a dressage coat. Courtney Allegra strengths lie within her ability as a designer to mix textures in monochromatic looks by playing with luxurious. Pretty Little Liars star Janel Parrish showed up at Wango Tango 2013 wearing a very special (and gorgeous) miniskirt. Why so special? It was created by 16-year-old fashion designer Courtney Allegra. What were you doing when you turned 16? If you’re like us, you were worrying about boys and working a summer job at the public swimming pool. Not San Diego native Courtney Allegra: The 16-year-old is blazing a trail as one of the youngest fashion designers on the scene. She’s appeared on NBC’s Today — alongside her fashion idol, Rachel Roy — and now Pretty Little Liars star Janel Parrish is wearing her designs! Parrish walked the red carpet at KIIS FM’s Wango Tango 2013 in a black Allegra skirt, complete with an eye-catching yellow stripe. That’s not all: Allegra just debuted her fall/ winter 2013 collection, and, basically, we want everything.

Have you seen the new movie Great Gatsby yet? Even if you haven’t-I haven’t, but did read the amazing book-you know that it’s out in theatres and is definitely making a statement. The makeup & hair that are featured in the film are amazing and will be an inspiration for summer looks. Accessories for your hair should include scarves, cute headbands, and head slides (think super cute bobby pins). These are fun and easy to use accessories whether you have long or short hair. You can create the looks by curling your luscious locks or maybe putting your hair up in a loosely-formed bun. If your hair is short, all you need to do is straighten it and apply an accessory of your choice. Makeup may be minimal, but a red lip always makes a statement to match the sizzling nights of summer. To create the look, black liquid liner should be applied to the eyes. You can make your eyes dramatic by wearing a smoky eye or for a “Day” wear, simply use a nude or barely there eye shadow. To match those crimson lips, opt for a pink or berry color blush and voila! You are now a Gatsby girl! Like a child at play, artist Amber Goldhammer paints with joyful vision, transferring her innermost feelings onto the canvas. As a Fusionartist, Amber’s art takes a spiritual path free from inhibition and filled with love. You can’t help but smile as you enter the colorful and often tranquil world she creates. Amber began painting with pigments, powders and waxes and using the human face as her subject. This form of art led her to Los Angeles where she continued working with various artists and celebrities. Needing a larger surface, her hands met the canvas and instantly she was in Love. She was free to roam on a never ending surface which allows her spirit to guide her hands in creating enchanting abstract forms. With a focus of acrylic on canvas, Amber’s artwork begins in a place of total surrender and pure freedom. Painting predominately with her hands, when they touch the canvas there is no thought, no photo to look at, no figure to draw. Pure bliss ensues as what has been created is truly unknown. The vision and emotion is left to the eyes of the beholder.

I recently had the opportunity to join Rassouli and fellow Fusionartists on a 10-day European retreat. We began in Vienna, a city devoted to the works of Egon Schielle and Klimt. Seeing these masters works up close and personal was both mesmorizing and invoked much emotion. We then traveled to the tiny village of Lazansky in the Czech Republic for four days of painting at a retreat center with locals and people from around Europe. Moving from our group of 12 to 60 was quite a delight. Meeting wonderful people who have painted all their life and many who have never held a paint brush was so much fun! We danced, painted, shared stories and developed loving relationships. Our trip ended in Prague, a city full of life and energy. Seeing powerful cathedrals, admiring 3,000 year old architecture and visiting the national museum were just some of the high points! A trip to remember for a life-time, the joy we shared was felt in our hearts and our souls. The art movement I’m involved in is called Fusionart. Fusionart is an artistic movement meant to be a catalyst to bring cultures together. The term, Fusionart, initially used in 1984, by Master Artist Rassouli, describes his painting style combining the mysticism of the East with artistic techniques of the West. In the ensuing decades, Fusionart developed into an art movement followed by hundreds of artists throughout the world. Today, it continues to evolve, driven by a higher purpose advocating the universal language of peace, unity, beauty, freedom, healing and, above all, the power of Love. Fusionart is much more than just a movement in art: it is a movement in the art of living. Fusionart is about oneness, or fusing with what appears to be separate from the self, in order to arrive at the union of opposites. Fusionart is an expression of the soul’s visions; it is about life itself, a flow that becomes a harbinger of joy in those touched by it. Because it is about connection, the artistic expression of a Fusionartist flows from the heart, and reflects what is felt rather than what is observed. Many of the concepts of Fusionart can be found in the book “ Fusionart, Creative Expression through the Heart”, by Rassouli. 26 artists were chosen to be featured in this book, and I am one of them. What do Great Danes, the old Katy rice dryers, and glamorous couture fashion have in common? For Faith McGary of Pay It Forward Rescue Shopping, they combined her two great passions – a love for vintage fashion, and a devotion to animal rescue – and provided the perfect setting for a unique fashion show to raise awareness of a worthy dog rescue organization in the greater Houston area. On June 15th, experienced and aspiring models from the local area and from Austin joined with a team of professional photographers from DreamOrchid and Golden Arm Productions of Austin Texas to donate their time to display custom Victorian and Edwardian style gowns and dresses from the Pay It Forward collection. Using the old Katy rice dryers as a vintage backdrop provided a distinctive runway for the fashion show. But the true stars of this event were the Great Danes in the foster program of the Great Dane Rescue of Southeast Texas -‐ Boaz, Farrah, Charlie and Scooby – who brought an added touch of patience, gentle grace and dignity to their runway debuts. These wonderful furry companions are all available for adoption to a forever family through www.saveadane.org.
