Restaurant of the Week! Our New Restaurant of the Week Review had to begin with Genaro’s Peruvian Rotisserie Chicken & Grill for a few very important reasons. First, they are our longest running restaurant customer and We Appreciate Them, but more importantly Genaro’s serves up authentic, delicious and reasonably priced cuisine that will keep you coming back. Just a few lights south of 485, Genaro’s is worth the short trip Walking in you will find that you can order a quick lunch to go or dinner to take home. Better yet, be seated by the wonderful servers who always patiently explain the Peruvian menu. Choose from the wide range of items and enjoy a cold beer or wine to accompany your meal. Chef-owner Duilio Macchiavello slow cooks the chicken in a charcoal rotisserie oven from Peru. The restaurant’s aromas only tease you about the great tastes to follow. Having tried most everything on the menu, describing many of the items would take much more than one page. My first lunch recommendation to everyone who asks is to start with the rotisserie chicken sandwich. Plan on a to-go box unless you have a large appetite. Even the less adventurous eaters will love the smoky, grilled taste of Genaro’s chicken. Beginning a dinner at Genaro’s with the smooth Papa a la Huancaina is the perfect way to get your taste buds working. Prepared with fresh red-skin potatoes, sliced into thick rounds. Then, boiled and covered by a semi-spicy cream cheese based sauce. Boiled eggs and black olives are added creating a mouth watering appetizer. My wife, Elizabeth’s, favorite! Macchiavello’s Italian grandfather moved to Peru many years ago. He named the restaurant after his father, who was born in Peru, as was Duilio. Now that’s Authentic! The cuisine has hints of Italian, Chinese and French, which makes up many Peruvian dishes. Whether sharing with your partner or dining with a small group, try the Bandeja Genaro, the chicken, pork and sausage platter. Two people would be challenged to finish it all! Sample ½ rotisserie chicken, beef, grilled pork, Spanish sausage along with sides. A great way for the newcomers to sample traditional Latin American flavors. If you like seafood, you’ll love the ceviche, Genaro’s very generous seafood platter. Large portions of shrimp, fish, mussels and calamari served on a bed of rice. And again, more perfectly prepared food than a couple can finish for under $15. As any experienced diner knows, the fried plantains and yucca are a must. The sweetest plantains are always at Genaro’s and the fried yucca is a great compliment to any dish. Oh, by the way, homemade desserts follow if you have saved any of your appetite. The moist tres leches cake is a recipe Duilio perfected with his wife, Edith over the years. Other dessert items made in Genaro’s kitchen complete the experience very sweetly, also. Try Genaro’s for lunch or dinner and you’ll leave full and satisfied.
