2015 CADILLAC ESCALADE

HAS SHARPER LINES AND A CLASSIER CABIN

eneral Motors has been busy updating its entire range of full-size trucks, and the latest is the 2015 Cadillac Escalade sport-utility.

B

ased on the same platform found in the new Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon, the fourth-generation of Cadillac’s full-size SUV was officially unveiled earlier this week in New York City.

F

rom the exterior, the most obvious change is the slimmer and more modern-looking front and rear LED lighting. The front fascia is dominated by a massive chrome grille, with Cadillac’s emblem prominently located right in the center of it.

O

ffered with two or four-wheel-drive, the Escalade is also available in standard or extended wheelbase (ESV) format. The ESV edition has a 14inch longer wheelbase and is a substantial

20-inches longer than the standard model. The powertrain consists of a 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V-8, coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Cadillac’s impressive magnetic ride control system now comes as standard equipment, as do 20-inch alloy wheels.

I P

f you think bigger is better, then you’ll be happy to know Cadillac also offers optional 22-inch alloys.

erhaps the biggest improvements have been saved for the cabin, which is significantly upgraded with better materials, along with an entirely new dashboard and center console layout

T

he latter includes an 8-inch screen, mated to CUE, Cadillac’s capacitive touch system which uses proximity sensors to operate everything from cabin temp, to navigation and audio controls.

P

roduction of the next Escalade begins next spring. Two key items Cadillac didn’t mention, however, were pricing and official EPA-certified fuel economy figures.

I T

t’s hard to imagine either will change dramatically from the 2014 model year Escalades. he current Escalade carries an entrylevel price of $63,745 and delivers 14/18-mpg during city and highway driving.
