A Teacher’s Christmas Reflections Mrs. Grant 6th grade

I must admit that I enjoy and love Christmastime. I truly love the hustle and bustle of shopping for gifts, visiting with friends and family, decorating the tree, and listening to carols. Amidst all of the merriment, I must be sure to have a moment or two to stop and breathe in the delight of the season. Christmas is a celebration for the birth of Jesus. Sometimes, we may choose to forget that Jesus is the reason for the season even though we hear this phrase in catchy songs and see it in festive cards. The birth of the King is the beginning of the prophetic life of Christ. Remembering all of this leads me recall 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "Ye are not your own: for ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." This scripture serves as a reminder for when we seem to forget that Christ already paid the price, we are not our own, and way too much money can be spent on lavish gifts to satisfy the demand that the season can hold. Instead, rest in the knowledge that the greatest gift that can be given or received out of love is Jesus. Since we have already received the greatest gift ever, all that we can do is to give ourselves back to him and share that love with others. So this Christmas I am discovering new ways to serve others and to help spread kindness. As a starting place, I will be sharing the love of Jesus with my husband, family, friends, and my Augustine family.

From the Desks of the Pastor and the Chancellor “Too Big to be Boxed” Happy Holidays Augustine Family, Here is something that we believe will bless your day. There’s a story’s told of a mother putting away the nativity set after Christmas when she noticed the Baby Jesus was missing. When she asked her four-year old if he knew where Jesus was, he replied, “Yes, but He doesn’t want me to tell anybody.” “Why not?” she asked. “Because He doesn’t want you to put Him away with the decorations,” he said. Wisdom from the lips of a child! When you know why Jesus came, you’ll celebrate Christmas every day, and you won’t pack him away until next year. Parents, we challenge you to show the Light and the Love of Christ, with a tangible demonstration of His Love to ALL that you encounter. Keep this present unwrapped everyday of your life. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Peace,

For unto us a child is born. Unto us a Son is given. And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

6 Ways to Season’s Sanity Renée Peterson Trudeau (excerpt. Full text: http://www.mamapedia.com/voices/sixways-to-create-a-meaningful-holidayseason) While this is a favorite time of year for some, this upcoming stretch can also be incredibly stressful, emotionally-taxing and just plain exhausting for many of us. As you move into the next few weeks, consider approaching the holidays intentionally. What does that mean? Well, if you were to set a theme for the holiday season what would it be? What do you most want to experience this time of year? What worked and what didn‟t work last year? Here are some possible themes for you to consider. What resonates with you (what speaks to your heart, not your head)? * Rest and rejuvenation * Spiritual renewal * Connection and healing with family members * Service to others * Simplicity * Creative expression What activities or choices might you make to support your holiday intention? What do you need to let go of? What “should‟s” need to be released? As you enter this holiday season, reflect for a minute on last year: what fed you and what drained you about the 2010 holiday season? Listen to your needs, say no to activities that don‟t fuel you, make choices that support your emotional and physical well-being, keep it simple, and, when in doubt—practice self-kindness and be easy on yourself. You‟ll be surprised by how many people around you will follow your lead. .

Student Creativity Corner “Christmas” Christmas time is coming here. It‟s a time for joy and cheer. It is not the time for receiving, But the time for joy & giving. On this day We give gifts this way. So now get the Christmas cheer. by Destiny Crumbley 7TH grade
