CHAPTER 1: Introduction If you've been here before, then you know that I believe in building a closet of versatile pieces that I can wear for years. When chosen in high quality materials, cared for appropriately and tailored to me, these piece will last for years (sometimes even decades) and will serve as the perfect foundation for endless outfits - even as my personal style changes and evolves over time. For me, this base of simple separates has been key in helping me hone in on my personal style and creating a canvas of "uniforms" that I can rely on all year. With this base, I'm able to effortlessly add different accessories, shoes and outerwear that compliment current trends, and enhance my personal preferences with very little effort. As you can imagine, the addition of a few trend driven pieces here and there are critical to helping ensure that my closet doesn't get monotonous, and I'm able to wear the same clothes for years to come without growing tired of them. So, with this approach in mind, each season I'll be sharing 5 accessory trends and 5 clothing trends that you can consider for updating your own wardrobe. Each of these trends will be wearable and inexpensive so that you can change things up without breaking the bank. To kick things off, we're starting with accessories and in the next chapters I'll be sharing 5 easy accessory trends for summer 2018 complete with shoppable links. Plus, an example wardrobe of pieces you likely already have and how a few trendy accessories can take those pieces even further.
CHAPTER 2: TOP 5 SUMMER 2018 ACCESSORY TRENDS Trends are a dime a dozen and at any given moment there seems to be an overwhelming amount of them circulating throughout stores and online. While we could easily spend countless pages identifying major and micro trends, I've chosen just 5 that I think are no-brainers and can easily be found anywhere you regularly shop. Like I mentioned earlier, everything enclosed here is under $50 and while I've linked some readily available options, I encourage you to also check your local thrift and vintage shops, ETSY and estate sales for pieces that are 100% unique to you. With that said, the 5 trends I've pulled out today are as follows.
1. Statement Sunglasses 2. Bold Hoops 3. The New Straw Bag (Netted & Beaded) 4. Yellow 5. The Plastics
STATEMENT SUNGLASSES First up is a great pair (or two!) of statement sunglasses. At the moment, these come in different shapes and sizes from hearts to oversized cat eyes and in a variety of colors from pastels to primary, and I love them all. I think this is one of the easiest trends to add to your closet this season and your perfect pair can be found just about anywhere and for as little as $5 in some cases (hello in-store H&M sale!). BOLD HOOPS Next up is my favorite trend this season - bold hoops. I love hoops in all shapes and sizes and for me and my personal style they are essentials. Even though I want a pair of solid gold, beautifully made small hoops (they're on my wish list!), this season is all about big, bold silhouettes and I am totally on board. Personally, I'm looking for a medium sized pair but you can also find Sade level hoops at every price point now. I've linked some of my faves below.

THE NEW STRAW BAG NETTED & BEADED Straw bags are undeniably classic additions to any summer wardrobe but this year, the straw bag is being replaced by netting and beading that looks fresh and modern. Even though personally I'll probably pass on this trend because I'm looking for a classic straw bag, there are so many cute options on the market that will instantly upgrade your existing wardrobe. YELLOW Each season one color dominates everything from clothing to shoes to accessories and this summer is all about yellow. Even though I love yellow, I don't wear it often so I picked up a pair of yellow earrings to help add this color into my wardrobe in a subtle way. Below, I've linked a variety of yellow pieces.

THE PLASTICS Last but not least is all things plastic. From lucite to acrylic to acetate, these almost glass like touches come in a variety of colors and can be found at every price point. I personally really love this trend in jewelry but I've linked a few of everything below.

CHAPTER 3: SOME EASY OUTFIT INSPIRATION Now that we've gone over 5 easy trends that you can add to your summer wardrobe, I want to share some outfit inspiration to help demonstrate how these pieces can fit into your existing wardrobe. To do this, I've compiled a small capsule of summer pieces you probably already have, and then added 4 trendy items to create even more looks. Like always, I want this information to serve as a guide, and my hope is that you'll tweak these tips to suit your own personal style. My goal is not to tell you what to wear, but rather to help you find something that works for your personal style and your lifestyle. It took me years of trial and error to come up with a system that worked for me rather than against me, and I hope that what I've learned will help you to uncover a method of dressing that works for you to enhance your life. So, please don't hesitate to swap things out for something else you like better, and always stay true to what you love. After all, each of us is unique and our style should reflect that.
