TITAS ‘LIVE’ IS BACK

Dear Patrons, DETERMINED AND GRATEFUL – This is how we feel at TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND as we return to ‘LIVE’ performances. Commitment, Innovation and Curation is what sets TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND apart. Dance is such a special art form. Athletic, inspiring and surprising – Time and time again, these are the words we hear from audience members. For four decades, TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND presents the most innovative and remarkable dance artists touring the world today. First-time audience members say they had no idea dance was so cool, something our longtime subscribers have always known. As we leave the fog of lock-down and we return to live performances, the 2021:22 season won’t disappoint. Creative, soulful and breathtaking imagery makes this a very special season of dance companies. We proudly return to the LIVE experience with a season of seven extraordinary companies from Canada and the United States. It is a season rich in creativity and soul-stirring performances. Success is rooted in collaboration. Together, TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND and the AT&T Performing Arts Center are dedicated to “safely” cultivating talent, new work, and advancing the Arts in our ever-expanding cultural landscape. We are committed to supporting a collaborative community that fosters the creative process. We are building Blended Audiences by bringing the world to Dallas. Thank you for actively engaging in the Arts, and for being a part of the TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND and AT&T Performing Arts Center families. Finally, this season we introduce our new series within a series, TITAS/UNFILTERED. This series has the tagline, "If you're easily offended, don't come." We recognized that not all art is for everyone, but our audience needs to have the option to see great art that might be somewhat controversial. Our UNFILTERED series is dedicated to "Risk," and we are thrilled to add these more progressive works to our profile. What we do together, truly does make a difference.

ALICE

In timely fashion, we start our season walking through the Looking Glass. MOMIX, celebrating their 40th Anniversary, brings their fantastical ALICE to Dallas. Having only toured internationally, ALICE was to make its first U.S. tour in the fall of 2020, then came the lock down. TITAS is thrilled and honored to present this extraordinary work and company as we return to 'LIVE' performances. "I don't intend to retell the story, but to use it as a taking off point for invention," says famed MOMIX director Moses Pendleton. One of America’s most wildly creative companies, MOMIX is recognized worldwide as a maverick of creativity and invention. Pendleton’s latest work takes the audience on a fun adventure with Lewis Carroll’s most beloved character, Alice. Join TITAS, MOMIX-STYLE, with the Mad Hatter, Queen of Hearts and even the Caterpillar as we launch the 2021:22 TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND Season!

DOUG VARONE AND DANCERS Doug Varone creates modern choreography that is as accessible as it is sophisticated. These amazing dancers bring a special “human-ness” to Varone’s choreography. From the smallest gesture to the most powerful movement, Doug Varone and Dancers revels in the subtle beauty and raw energy in everyday moments. The work draws you in, surprises you, and takes you on a journey. Doug Varone took the famed Bernstein West Side Story music and created SOMEWHERE, something truly magical. An amazing work, to very familiar music, it’s a surprisingly fresh approach to music we all know and carry in our hearts. The magic happens when the audience lets go of preconceived images and storylines and experiences the gorgeous music and pure movement that creates a stunning reinterpretation of this iconic music. Varone is a master, and we are thrilled to have them back in Dallas.

DEBUT

RUBBERBAND Canada

Founded in 2002 by Victor Quijada, RUBBERBAND immediately imposed itself in Canada and abroad as an explosive one-of-a-kind troupe. In 15 years, RUBBERBAND has not only redefined breakdance, but it has opened the way for new creators fascinated by this dance form. Victor Quijada continues with his extraordinary dance works, this time with 10 irrepressible dancers, a DJ, and a wide-open venue. Athletic, exciting and inventive, the evening-length work Ever So Slightly explores behavioral mechanisms and the reflexes we develop every day dealing with the world around us. We are thrilled they are making their Texas debut in Dallas with TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND.
