The National Bunraku Theater
Minami is the area around Namba, a typical bustling Osaka town and has been a cultural center of the Kansai region, especially Osaka and Kyoto, for 300 years.

Shinsaibashi-suji is a traditional shopping street with stores established in the Edo period (1603-1867). Mido-suji Street is perfect for fashion shopping. The streets around the intersection of Mido-suji and Nagahori-dori streets is lined with world premium brand stores. Daimaru Shinsaibashi and other fashion buildings provide a variety of fashionable stores. Minami-Semba with its stylish boutiques, cafés, and the flagship EVIS store, a world famous denim brand shop, offers more mature designs. Horie has select shops popular among young people and fancy cafés that provide a fashionable atmosphere. Americamura (American Village) has used clothing shops and variety stores for young people. Namba has the well-established department store, Takashimaya Osaka. Namba Parks includes about 250 select shops and restaurants. Namba Marui is a shopping building fully equipped with a variety of stores, such as cafés and general shops. Sennichimae-Doguya-suji Shopping Mall, a 160-meter arcade, has 45 stores selling a wide variety of goods related to food—cooking equipment, knives, and replica food. Ebisu Tower at Don Quijote, has a huge Ebessan (Ebisu, the god of business success) and Donpen (a penguin logo) has the world’s first oblong Ferris wheel with a great view of Minami and many interesting items for sale. There is a nice walking path along the Dotombori River. Hozen-ji Yokocho (Hozen-ji Temple Alley), an old cobblestone alley, is lined with old stores, allowing the imagination to slip into the good old days in Osaka. Great entertainment can be had in Osaka at a variety of theaters—the Osaka Shochiku for kabuki performances, the National Bunraku Theater for bunraku (traditional puppet theater), and the Namba Grand Kagetsu Theater for owarai (comedy).

Imamiya Ebisu Shrine worships Ebisu, the God of business success, and holds the annual Toka Ebisu (a festival to pray for business success) from January 9 through 11. More than 1 million visitors enjoy this festival every year. The 3rd biggest entertainment district in Osaka after Umeda and Namba is Tennoji with the fashion building Hoop and Kintetsu Department Store’s Abeno Store, and now undertaking the construction of a 300-meter skyscraper, Abeno Harukas, with 60 stories above ground and five below to be completed in spring, 2014. The completed building will surpass Landmark Tower (296 meters tall) in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefectue. It will be the tallest building in Japan and will house Kintetsu Department Store’s flagship Abeno Store, a museum, offices, and the Osaka Marriott Miyako Hotel.
