with Marisa Patwa YOUNG ROMANCE, APOCALYPTIC MONSTERS AND A KICK-ASS DISNEY PRINCESS: MARCH PROMISES A WIDE RANGE OF MOVIE MAGIC

For all of the Riverdale fans out there, Archie heartthrob KJ Apa stars as a successful dreamy musician whose new lover, played by the vivacious Britt Robertson, has a terminal disease in I Still Believe, out March 13th. The film’s trailer and premise have similar vibes to A Walk to Remember (2002), My Sister’s Keeper (2009), Now Is Good (2012), The Fault in Our Stars, (2014), Everything, Everything (2017) Then Came You (2018), Midnight Sun (2018) and Five Feet Apart (2019). I guess there’s something about young, sick people falling in love that really sells movie tickets. Anyway, both leading actors are spot-on casting choices and will do a great job, even if the material is predicable. And the musical element elevates the regurgitated plot. Here’s hoping for a sultry ballad or two. The highly-anticipated A Quiet Place Part II drops on March 20th and if the incredible box office success of the first film is any indicator, the John Krasinski-directed follow-up is sure to be a hit. The plot is still centered around our favorite survivalist family, led by tough matriarch Evelyn Abbot (Emily Blunt), as they try to stay alive in a land dominated by monsters that will tear you apart if they hear you make a single sound. It’s one of those films that gets your heart beating because you not only know how high the stakes are, but it’s fun to picture how you and your family would fare if you were faced with the same apocalyptic crisis. Disney has been churning out live-action versions of their animated classics like hot cakes recently, including Beauty and the Beast (2017), Dumbo, (2019), Aladdin (2019), The Lion King (2019), Lady and The Tramp (2019) - even a live-action version of The Little Mermaid is in the works. And on March 27th, you can look forward to a heart-stopping live-action remake of the original Disney film Mulan, with Chinese-American actress Yifei Liu starring as the titular soldier/princess. Although I’m not a huge fan of recycling old ideas, I do think this will be a powerful film to take my toddler to. I especially can’t wait to see how they tackle the scene in which a determined Mulan finally climbs to the top of the pillar during training. That’s one of those scenes you watch over and over when you need to pump yourself up and get into “boss babe” mode. The only downside? Apparently it’s not a musical version and your favorite friendly talking dragon Mushu is nowhere to be found.
