Special & Outdoor Events Fly Tying Class

Winter Trout Fishing In conjunction with Capital City Fly Fishers and Missouri Department of Conservation, McKay Lake will be stocked with Rainbow Trout. Nov. 1 to Jan. 31 is catch and release (artificial baits, no natural or scented baits). Starting Feb. 1, trout may be caught and kept under regulations (any legal bait/ lure can be used). Anglers ages 16 -64 must possess a valid fishing permit and a trout stamp. Check out the full regulations by contacting Missouri Department of Conservation at (573) 751-4115.

Special Events

Learn how to tie your own flies in this beginning Fly Tying Class taught by members of the Capital City Fly Fishers. The course is geared toward the angler who has never tied flies before but would like to learn how. This four-session class is held on Thursday evenings on Sept. 12 & 26, and Oct. 10 & 24 from 6-8 pm at the Cedar City Room in the North Jefferson City Multipurpose Building. The class fee of $20 includes all instruction and materials, all proceeds go to the Winter Trout Fishing Program. Minimum class age is 12 years old. Deadline is one week prior to start date.

Jefferson City Parks and Recreation, Scholastic Inc. and Luetkemeyer Signs are bringing storybooks to the trail (reading, exercising & family time all in one: run, walk or ride your bike). Storybooks will be at the 5-8 year old reading level. Books are available after 12 pm on starting date.

Fall Hayride Program Enjoy autumn’s beauty and the park wildlife with a tractor-drawn hayride through beautiful Binder Park. Hayrides are available through November 24. Hayrides are perfect for families, a group of friends, office parties, or youth groups.

Daytime Hayrides Cost is $25 per hour. Two wagons are available. For younger age groups, up to age 6, wagons can accommodate 25 to 35 children. For older ages, 7 and up, wagons can accommodate 20. All day time hayrides must finish before 5 p.m. Daytime hayrides are available Monday - Friday.

Evening Hayrides Hayrides, 2 1/2 hours in length, are available Monday - Thursday at 5:30 or 7:00 pm; Friday - Sunday 5:00, 6:30 or 8:00 pm, with a 2:00 pm and 3:30 pm time available on Saturday and Sunday. Cost is $50 per wagon with a maximum of 20 people per wagon. In addition, a refundable deposit fee of $15 per wagon.

Reservations Reservations are accepted on a firstcome- first-served basis in person, or by phone if using a credit card. Inquiries may be made by phone, but hayride reservations must be accompanied by payment in full for both the hayride fee and the deposit fee (applies to day and evening hayrides).
