Tech Bytes The World at Our Fingertips: Is it too much? By Meredith Lutter Close your eyes and picture this: in your back pocket there is a thing that we call a phone. In your home there is a bigger version of your phone called a tablet. On your desk there is a folding tablet we call a computer. What do all these things have in common? Internet, that’s what they have in common. Since the invention of the internet, kids and adults alike have been able to communicate better, find information faster, and keep upto-date more easily. You now can see anyone in the world live with video chat sites, talk with that long lost cousin over a internet based texting app, and tell everyone about your life over sites like Facebook. Say you have a paper due tomorrow about Christopher Columbus. The library is closed what do you do? Hop on the internet and type it in on a search engine. Some of the information that comes up might not be true, but there is a bountiful supply of sites that speak the truth. You can have that paper in no time. Inventions like the internet are making the future happen now, but is it too much power in everyone’s hands?
