Global Opportunities Whether your small business is new to exporting or you’re already selling goods and services to other countries, Middlesex County Department of Business Development and Education provides partnerships with businesses and state agencies to expand economic growth globally. As the gateway for exporting around the world, Middlesex County boasts five Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ) offering incentives for companies generating final products exports out of the United States (Carteret, Edison, Perth Amboy, South Brunswick, and Woodbridge). Managed by the Port Authority and through the NJ Business Action Center NJBAC, Middlesex County Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ) provides strategic locations to the Ports with unmatched transportation assets, plus the State’s network of free professional export assistance.

NJ State Trade and Export Promotion (NJ STEP) Program, administered by the New Jersey Business Action Center (BAC), provides sub-grants to New Jersey eligible small businesses that are new to export, as well as those businesses who currently sell their goods and services to other countries.

The NJ STEP program provides free consulting services,offers educational opportunities and can acquaint you with resources to learn more about exporting basics, regulatory compliance, custom procedures, reporting and other topics.

The Middlesex County Business Portal The Middlesex County Business Portal is an economic development on-line resource, providing commercial site-selection tools in a GIS map-based format. Access site-specific incentive data, along with free market/demographic information, and obtain a showcase of what is for sale or lease. This interactive system enables you to email, export, or print selected commercial parcel data, including analysis, and comparison of up to five parcels from your desktop. NJSBDC Business Center at Rutgers-New Brunswick NJSBSC is a premier resource for management consulting and training in business expertise for the region. Businesses can receive strategic, growth-focused training, counseling and technical assistance in the heart of Middlesex County on the Rutgers-New Brunswick, Livingston Campus. This SBDC Center will provide array of services to aspiring entrepreneurs as well as established businesses. 6

New Jersey Career Connections The State of New Jersey also provides helpful information to businesses. Employers can also enter job orders directly or request that their job opportunities be entered by the Business Resource Center – BRC into the state job order posting system. This new tool allows you to create your own business account, enter job orders, search prospective applicants, or monitor who has applied for any job openings you have entered, review the resume and also contact applicants directly.

Labor Market Information The New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development collects, analyzes, and distributes Labor Market Information (LMI) both statewide and regionally. Information includes the latest employment statistics, demand occupations, wage data and key demographics.
