THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY AWARDS prestigious distinction to AIS “AIS is proud to be recognized as a partner school by the German government,” said Kevin Glass. “This is definitive testimony to the quality of our entire school program as well as our German language teachers and students.” The ceremony took place in conjunction with the annual German Christmas Market.

“After last year’s success, we couldn’t imagine our group walking away this year with six awards,” said Rob Warren, Head of Arts and Sherry Weeks, Secondary School drama teacher. “It was a privilege to even be nominated, since the number of schools participating had increased from twelve to thirty-nine. This reinforces that AIS has a remarkable theatre program that truly reflects the nature of an ensemble by involving the whole of the AIS community.” The school’s original production of Oliver! ran for seven sold-out performances last November. Tony Award-winning Broadway actor Shuler Hensley himself served as co-host of the spectacular, joined by Jovita Moore and Justin Farmer, WSB-TV Channel 2 news anchors. The ceremony and awards program are initiatives of the Cobb Energy Centre educational outreach effort, ARTSBRIDGE. The entire program involved more than 3,600 students, teachers and parents from 39 high schools as well as 25 professional Atlanta-based judges.

AIS was awarded the PASCH designation, indicating a partner school of the Bundesrepublik Deutschland (Federal Republic of Germany), in an official ceremony on the school’s campus on December 5, 2009. The plaque was presented by representatives of the German Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany and received by students Luisa Bartsch and Brandon Lenz, who represented the school’s German language program. AIS is the first full-day school in Georgia to receive the distinction.

“Due to the strong and increasing presence of German companies in the Metro Atlanta region, German language proficiency is an important asset for the professional career of today’s students. AIS has been serving the Atlanta region by offering a German program since it was founded,” said Sönke Lorenz, Deputy Consul, Atlanta, German Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany. “For everyone looking for a German language education for their kids, AIS has a proven record of excellence. In recognition for this endeavor, Germany has been supporting AIS continuously and now has chosen AIS to become one of only 1,000 PASCH schools worldwide.” The initiative “Schools: Partners for the Future” (PASCH) was launched in 2008 by German Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Stein Meier. The program’s goal is to build a worldwide network of partner schools through which to foster young people’s interest and enthusiasm for modern Germany.
