FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE_ Fitness Center About: Located in a 1943 converted warehouse, the existing fitness center facility at Fairchild Air Force Base houses an aquatic center and the Air Force’s water survival training school. When structural failure resulted in a large portion of the facility becoming unusable, Atkins assisted with this emergency repair project by providing a conceptual design to replace the existing physical fitness and aquatic center facility; maintaining and/or improving facility functions and operations while supporting the training school in its mission. The charrette goal was to gather the information necessary to develop a solution that would meet the needs of the user groups, satisfy the requirements of the DD Form 1391 from a functional area and cost perspective, and prepare for the preparation of a design-build request for proposals package to expedite delivery of the replacement physical fitness center facility. The final charrette report documented findings based on collected data and provided recommendations that were presented at an outbriefing.
