he Pennington is a modern, rustic retreat designed for relaxed, yet refined, family living and entertaining. Architect David Anderson and contractor Griffin Elkington worked together to take advantage of the special setting of Spring Creek Ranch, giving each living space a connection to the outside. Just inside the home’s entry court, guests are greeted with an elegant steel door and an art focal wall. Pecky cypress planked ceilings, gas lanterns and concrete floors reflect the Pennington’s casual ambience. The adjacent living room has a wall of windows and a raised ceiling with sheetrock beams to add subtle texture. The open-concept kitchen with supporting scullery lends itself to a natural orderliness that keeps the main entertaining spaces tidy. Behind the living room, on the other side of the two-way fireplace, a lounge awaits—the perfect spot for relaxing and TV watching. The lounge is flanked by a light-filled stair hall on one side and the master suite on the other. The master bedroom has his-and-hers baths with a shared wet area and a large closet with an island. Rounding out the main floor, a large mudroom features laundry and gear cubbies and offers a convenient island for folding. The upstairs features a kids’ play area with builtin bunks and two ensuite bedrooms. Atop the rear staircase lie the home office and media room. A screened porch just off the lounge provides views of the lake and evening sunsets, and right outside the casual dining area in the kitchen is a large rear porch with fireplace and cooking station. The backyard features a pool and putting green.
