A beloved fairytale and Academy Award winning movie, The Red Shoes has seduced audiences and inspired generations of dancers with its tale of obsession, possession and one girl’s dream to be the greatest dancer in the world. Victoria Page lives to dance, but her ambitions become a battleground between the two men who inspire her passion. Matthew Bourne’s magical adaptation of the classic Powell and Pressburger film is set to a new score arranged by Terry Davies using the mesmerising music of golden-age Hollywood composer, Bernard Herrmann (most famous for his collaborations with Alfred Hitchcock and Orson Welles), with sumptuous designs by Lez Brotherston (set and costumes), Paule Constable (lighting) and Paul Groothuis (sound). From the Olivier Award winning producer of the West End hits Top Hat, The Play That Goes Wrong and Hetty Feather. Federico Fellini’s La Strada (The Road) is one of the true masterpieces of modern cinema, winning the Academy Award in 1957 for the movie starring Anthony Quinn. This visually stunning new stage adaptation directed by Olivier Award nominee Sally Cookson (Jane Eyre National Theatre, Hetty Feather West End), boasts a beautiful score by Benji Bower, with songs performed live on stage by a multi-talented cast. The story of wide-eyed Gelsomina, who is sold by her penniless mother to Zampano, a travelling sideshow strongman, unfolds as they journey through the Italian countryside performing for their keep. Their perilous road trip leads them to a ragtag travelling circus where they meet Il Matto the tightrope walker who rekindles Gelsomina’s spirit with a new found confidence. In this much anticipated new stage production, Fellini’s profoundly impassioned and deeply involving story is sure to stimulate the senses, fire emotions and stir the soul. Prior to a London season.

THREE TRAGIC LOVE STORIES. TWO TIMELESS CLASSICS. ONE HIDDEN GEM. This spring, Welsh National Opera brings you some of the most poignant love stories ever told, with some of the greatest music ever written. Their Love’s Poisoned Chalice Season offers three operas on the themes of love, loss, jealousy and heartbreak. La bohème will transport you to bohemian Paris where Rodolfo, a penniless poet, and Mimì, a seamstress, are head over heels in love. But in a world of turmoil and poverty, their hopes and dreams are crushed and their passionate romance comes to a tragic end. Joachim Herz’s iconic production of Madam Butterfly returns for limited performances in Spring 2017. Each scene in this classic staging looks like a sepia photograph through which we glimpse a vanished world. The story of Butterfly sees Eastern and Western cultures collide with moving consequences. Le Vin herbé tells the story of two lovers who drink a spiked potion and fall hopelessly in love. Their affair inevitably leads to tragedy.

FOLLOWING TEN YEARS OF THE AGATHA CHRISTIE THEATRE COMPANY, A NEW THRILLER FROM ‘THE BEST WOMAN CRIME WRITER SINCE CHRISTIE’ THE SUNDAY TIMES

Building on the phenomenal decade-long success of The Agatha Christie Theatre Company, which sold over two million tickets and continually played to packed houses around the UK, Bill Kenwright presents a new production adapted from one of the most celebrated works of the writer often hailed as the successor to Agatha Christie. Eunice struggles to fit in. When she joins a wealthy family as their housekeeper the very reason for her awkwardness, long hidden and deeply buried, leads inexorably to a terrible tale of murder in cold blood – on Valentine’s Day. Ruth Rendell’s brilliant plot unravels a lifetime of deceit, despair and cover-ups which, when revealed, brings a shocking revelation almost as grizzly as murder itself. Led by Director Roy Marsden, best known for playing PD James’ detective Adam Dalgliesh, the cast includes film, TV and stage favourite Sophie Ward who played the ill-fated love interest of Young Sherlock Holmes and Dr Helen Trent in ITV drama Heartbeat, pop-idol Mark Wynter who since his hit parade days has featured in seven Agatha Christie Company productions, Deborah Grant (Not Going Out, Bergerac), movie icon Shirley Anne Field who became an overnight star in The Entertainer and Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, Antony Costa who shot to fame in chart topping boy band Blue, and Agatha Christie Company stalwart Ben Nealon whose TV credits include ITV’s award winning Soldier Soldier. | 24 |

Georges and the dazzling drag artiste Albin, star of La Cage aux Folles, live an idyllic existence in the heart of St Tropez. But behind the curtains of this sparkling extravaganza, all may be about to change. Georges’ son Jean-Michel announces his engagement to the daughter of a notorious right-wing politician determined to close down the local colourful night-life. Drama and hilarity ensue when a meeting of the parents forces them to cover up their vibrant lifestyle. Will Albin be able to play the role of his life to ensure that Jean-Michel can marry his love? Bill Kenwright presents a spectacular new version of the much loved musical with West End star John Partridge as Albin and Broadway leading man Adrian Zmed as Georges. John’s extensive theatre credits boast the West End productions of A Chorus Line at the London Palladium, Cats, Starlight Express and Chicago, but perhaps he is best known for playing the loveable Christian in BBC’s EastEnders and as a judge on TV’s Over The Rainbow. Adrian’s Broadway credits include Blood Brothers, Grease and Falsettos and on television he is best loved as Officer Vince Romano in the hit TV show T.J. Hooker and on the big screen as Johnny in Grease 2. The show-stopping score includes The Best of Times, Song on the Sand and I Am What I Am.
