Just like many others, for years we have followed the trend of the field and produced collections inspired by the world of fairy tales, genderised and richly decorated items with intense colors, catering to the desires of mothers and grandmothers, at times at the expense of practicality. But then we also became parents, exasperated by laces and fairly-like cradles, hard to clean materials and unportable highchairs, and we wondered if we liked it all. Was all this actually improving the quality of our family life? Obviously it wasn’t. This awareness gave us the strenght to look for a project of our own by unleashing our fantasy.
The first thing we did was to consider the changes that the traditional family (mother, father and children) had undergone during the years. We realised that, besides the traditional model, a family can be made up of a mother and her child just like by a father and his gorgeous twins. A family can be one where both parents work away from home and often travel or even where the stay-at-home father runs the house. The love, affection and the new world that dawns with the birth of a child remain forever the true essence of a family life, though family needs change over time.
So we decided to begin the production of ‘intelligent’ items, practical and safe, nice and able to fit in with style with the furniture of modern houses. These products reflect love and tenderness by giving concrete answers to modern needs. We got together with different Italian companies, which have many years of experience in the field, and gave a unique and true consistency to our project, so strong and loving and continuously growing. Slowly a new world appeared in font of us and day by day we made it all come true. This is how HugsFactory® was born: is’s just what we wanted for ourselves, our children and our childrens.
When we give birth, the world starts anew. Through the eyes of our children, we are suddenly and deeply thrust back into the primal experience of what it means to be human. When we follow our nature and aknowlege that both parent and babies have natural instincts that are valuable and trustworthy, we find ourselves following a loose set of parenting strategies and beliefs that have been existing for millenia and can be called natural family living. Birth is a natural human process and when we believe in our own body’s ability to give birth, we empower ourselves and our children.
The picture of a family in storybooks has traditionally been depicted as consisting of a mum, a dad and two children. Today, instead, we are more prone to accept different kinds of family set ups, like families headed by unmarried or single parents, families with a mix of biological and step children or mixed race families. Today’s families are going through more rapid changes than ever before. A fact, however, is that people are becoming more isolated in their own family units, living far from relatives and as a result, without family to support them. The shift in working patterns is another important element to take into account and it basically means less time to spend with the children: two out of five parents work on the weekends and one out of 20 families have a mum or dad who works away from home. Less than half of the families spend evenings together.
Along with traditionals family settings, also the role of fathers has changed. As shown by recent studies, 75% of today’s fathers is deeper involved in family life compared to the past generation. In addition, fathers are no longer only the traditional married family breadwinners and disciplinarians. A father today can be single or married; externally employed or a stay-at-home; gay or straight; an adoptive or step-parent and a children caregiver more than capable to face physical or psychological challenges.
It is now proven however that children who grow up with a more involved paternal figure are likely to be more serene and with higher IQ levels; to have greater linguistic abilities and a greater social and emotional development. In addition, they can develop a deeper sense of belonging to the community that reduces behavioural problems and drug abuse, especially in teenagers.
Many chemical ingredients are found in baby products. These products don’t cause immediate visible signs of toxicity, but can negatively affect a baby’s health in case of repeated use over extended periods of time. Some ingredients can lead to rashes, respiratory distress, and even long-term health consequences. Fortunately, many natural options are available to prevent excessive use of toxic and allergenic ingredients.

After the giving birth process, the real work begins. An important issue to consider in the arrival of the baby is the kind of baby bedding he or she will use. Safety is the most important thing to be considered when selecting bedding for your baby. Proper baby bedding material is a crucial factor in keeping your baby safe, healthy and happy. The sheets for a baby bed must fit the mattress or pad perfectly. Cotton or linen are soft, durable, washable and hypoallergenic, and represent the best choice for baby’s beddings.
A bassinet or cradle may be suitable for a newborn for the first few weeks and is handy for daytime naps. Bassinets and cradles are made in different shapes and for this reason it is very important that the sheets and other bedding fit perfectly. Cradles are usually trimmed with ruffles and lace. Babies like to suck, therefore anything that is loose can become a choking hazard. All ribbons and laces must be out of the babies’ reach and well secured.
Linen is labor-intensive to manufacture, but when it is made into garments, it is valued for its exceptional coolness and freshness in hot weather. Linen textiles appear to be some of the oldest in the world: their history goes back many thousands of years. Today, linen is usually an expensive textile, and is produced in relatively small quantities. It has a long “staple” (individual fiber length) compared to cotton and other natural fibers. Linen fabric feels cool to the touch. Its use in time makes it softer and more comfortable, but does not alter its durability and abrasion resistance properties. Linen is a material which is extremely cool in summer as it can absorb up to 20% of humidity without giving the feeling of wetness. It can be frequently washed, even at high temperatures: linen should be air or iron-dried rather than tumble-dried. Through a bleaching treatment linen becomes lily white. If left natural, its colors can vary from ivory to ecru or grey.
The genderisation era is over. Soft and natural colors, ecru, grey, ivory, are better and stand out with the clean color of wood or with contrasting chromatic elements. A vintage break recalling the 60’s and 70’s: a rebel spirit under an apparently refined shell.
Organic cotton generally identifies cotton from non genetically modified plants, which are grown without the use of synthetic agricultural chemicals such as fertilizers or pesticides. The production of these plants also promotes and enhances biodiversity and biological cycles. The production requirements are specifically the set of changes that must be applied to field and farming practices in order to consider a crop organic. To begin with, organic fields must go through a three-year cleansing period, with no use of prohibited substances is made, before planting the first organic crop. Fields must also be equipped with physical barriers and buzzers in order to prevent contact with crops containing chemical substances of surface runoff from crops nearby. Producers must also strive to promote soil fertility through cultivation practices while maintaining or improving the physical, chemical, and biological condition of the soil and minimising soil erosion. Organic growers must also implement practices to support biodiversity.
