Housing studio : Process
Home is a place so profoundly familiar you do not even have to notice it - but now observe. As a designer you need to keenly observe and analyze it. Study your own house - its people, activities and how the house (as individual spaces, the house as a whole, the street house interface and the street) responds/ is relevant to its users, their life style, socio - culture, climate, economy, site and its surroundings, etc.The main aim of the project is to understand The intend of this exercise is to be aware of the meaning of home, analyze the various factors that shape house form and neighborhood and the diverse needs and lifestyle of heterogeneous urban population. And focuses on design of built environments for diverse needs of contemporary urban life with socio-cultural awareness through the identification of tangible and intangible issues/ challenges in housing and addressing them. It also emphasizes the role of private and public spaces in an urban environment and the need to bring individual and groups in proximity to each other for better social interaction and community life among them.

Issues & agenda
To take a position and prioritize the issue that has to be addressed according to the individual. This exercise aims at arriving your own set of issues and agendas which may belong either to rural/urban or might apply to both. These issues or agendas should address the needs of the current society and have a larger impact(in terms of scale and importance). That may address issues like water saving/soil protection/food scarcity/energy consumption/ community issues like women safety/ lack of communal spaces/ loss of cultural identity/child labour etc.
Site narration
To the north you hear the hustling of vehicles and continuous honking. The main road abuts this side beyond which you see dense buildings and a few high rise structures. Opportunities and access towards amenities seem to be endless from this side. Towards the east, you see the beautiful cauvery flowing. Fisherman waiting with their baits, women washing their clothes, children cheering around. The west is abutted by a secondary road. This connects the urban to the rural. The south is abutted by expanse of fields and farm lands lush and green. You do not only see humans inhibit this portion, you see cows, hens, goats, ducks and what not!? The site slightly slopes towards the river and you see a small canal of water passing through the site. There is a point where the site slopes towards creating a basin.
